He loves me, and he doesn’t even know my real name.
The limelight that follows him could expose everything I’m hiding. But even knowing the risks, I can’t force myself to stay away.
I’m going to break his heart, but mine will shatter right along with it.
Will we lose it all when I reveal what’s beneath this mask?
Loved the hero. Simon was a great mix between alpha and sensitive.
I finished this book with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face! Charlie and Simon are both amazing characters, and the author did an unbelievable job making sure the reader really got to know them both. This is the first book in the Beneath series, and what an introduction! I was hooked right from the beginning, and the action and intrigue didn’t slow down until the end.
Charlie began as an innocent who was betrayed by the ones closest to her. She runs away to hide, and in the process finds herself. Simon is a golden boy who has secrets of his own. A chance meeting throws them together, and Simon is hooked. He is so confident about what he wants with Charlie right from the beginning, and Charlie fights him every step of the way! Their story is an eclectic mix of sweet and sad. The reader is kept wondering about how a happy ending could even be possible.
I love how unapologetic Charlie is about who she is. I hate how she feels like she is responsible for the actions and misdeeds of others. I’m glad she found her place and made her own “family”.
I love how steadfast and unwaveringly supportive Simon is. I love how he manages to turn something bad from his past into an amazing endeavor.
This was a superb story, and I can’t wait to dive into the next one!
Wow!
This book blew my expectations out of the water.
I only read a few romance-type books a year. But this book? It burned a hole in the genre box! It was nearly everything I’d want in a book. Yes, there was sizzling hot romance, but there was also mystery and suspense, and amazingly well-developed characters with deep backstories.
By the way, if you like tattoos, there are several scenes that you’ll very likely LOVE.
And a quick note to fellow TwiHards… there are a few scenes you’ll love. (No vampires here, but still.) Here’s one: “I’m not strong enough to walk away from you again. This time, you’re going to have to tell me to go.”
The Charlotte / Charlie reveal is fantastic. It says something about our society, about being true to yourself over being who people expect. There’s real depth there.
A former military person dealing with mental trauma and not seeking help — the book is worth reading just for this reality, which needs to change. “I didn’t want anyone to know that I was broken.”
Finished this bad boy last night and freaking LOVED it. This was my first Meghan March experience and I’m already ready for round two. Beneath this Mask is an emotional roller coaster ride that I didn’t want to stop (and I hate roller coasters). Strong, sassy female lead, sexy alpha-male to swoon over, and just enough angst, trouble, and a touch of mystery to keep you burning the pages. I’ve already downloaded the second book in the series, Beneath this Ink, and can’t wait to dive in. If it’s half as good as the first, Mrs. March just might become one of my go-to authors. So exciting! I LOVE finding new authors to obsess over! Beneath this Mask = 5 STARS. Highly recommend.
Love this book. One of my favorites. I have read/listened to this book many times. I just love Charlie and Simon. Charlie is running away from the crimes that her farther committed. She finds her way to New Orleans where she meets Simon at the tattoo parlor that she works at. Simon was there with his friend’s bachelor party and he fell for her as soon as her saw her.
She struggles to keep her emotions at bay because she is not who she says that she is and she doesn’t want to get attached if she has to run again.
This story will keep you on the edge of your seat and I fall in love more and more each time I read it.
After her fathers humiliation at the trail Charolette was leaving. She went to new Orleans to start a new. At the tat parlor he never thought she would meet her prince charming Simon. Neither were ready for all that was ahead of them. But hold on because love will prevail.
I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I devoured it one sitting! Fraud, shame, politics, sickness, friendship; as well as desire and love, makes this book totally worthwhile.
Simon and Charlie’s story is exactly what you need when looking for a well written easy read that contains a bit of hot romance .
I cannot wait to get started on book two of this series .
Two people who can undo each other in different ways fall for each other and end up happy.
Simon is a former Navy fighter pilot, son of a congressman, and successful businessman in his own right. Women have never been a challenge until he met Charlotte. She is a sexy, tatted-up bad girl and was not part of his plans. The punch to his gut every time he sees her tells him he has to know more. She is a mystery, an enigma, and a challenge. He is going to figure her out and then he is going to make her his. We will find out what Charlotte has been hiding beneath the mask. – Charlotte’s father is ruthless and selfish, and her mother is shallow. Despite that, she is a balanced and caring. Simon is down to earth, caring and loyal. I enjoyed the story and especially Simon and Charlotte together. It is interesting to see how the problems caused by Charlotte’s father untangle.
Loved this book and the whole series.
SECRETS AND LIES
Sexy, former Navy fighter pilot and businessman, Simon Duchesne, is also the son of a former congressman, and his father has Simon’s path planned out…
Charlotte Agoston is the disgraced daughter of a famous Ponzi scheme so large, Bernie Madoff would be impressed…So Charlotte becomes Charlie, and goes into hiding, just trying to stay under the radar….and then Simon meets Charlie….But, secrets, half truths and lies can kill a relationship….and this relationship has plenty of those….so, someone decides to fix it.
I really liked this book….I loved the characters and I loved the story…I loved chemistry between Simon and Charlie….and I loved Con, too….
Charlie & Simon. While this not the first time I’ve read this book, it’s my first review for it. This book is amazing and brilliant no matter how many times you read it.
What an amazing book. Totally original. I hope no ones’ parents could be so awful but that would be sticking my head in the sand. Two damaged people find their way to each other and try to find happiness. A must read but keep your tissues close at hand.
I read this book in the wee hours of my March trip to Barcelona, and it was enough to capture my attention from what is easily my FAVORITE city in the world.
Sexy and surprisingly sweet, I loved reading about a tatted “bad girl” for once! Simon and Charlie sucked me in and I relished every minute.
The one that starts the Beneath series- I enjoyed this story so much! Meghan has a way of taking something familiar and adding so much depth to it that you’re sucked right in, devouring every word, every moment, every scene. Strong heroines. Stronger hero’s. Get your read on. 🙂
Didn’t care for Charlie or feel the romantic connection between them that I would have liked.
I enjoyed this story. It was intriguing, and entertaining. There were some twist and turners, and a sweet, beautiful romance. I like that for once the roles are reversed, a good guy and a “bad girl”.
Pretty good book. You have a ex Navy Fighter pilot and a girl who’s hiding from her past. This story takes place in New Orleans in a city that never sleeps and there is always something going on.
I’m hooked on the entire “beneath” series by Meghan March. This is the first book and introduces several of the main characters.
Well-defined characters with great interaction.
This was my first book by Meghan March and I absolutely loved it. I couldn’t put it down for wanting to know what was going to happen next. I knew the past was going to come crashing down but wasn’t sure how or what would happen. Charlie was such an awesomely strong character and I was so happy Simon didn’t give up and they got their HEA.
