Time travel books are not my thing. But this one is complicated, multifaceted, very interesting, very emotional, very entertaining. How would you like to have the government come in and destroy your town? Devastating! This is an emotional romance with just a little steam. Super characters. Complicated plot. Very good, if you like time travel with time jumping all around.
I listened to an Audible version of this book. I didn’t think the voices sounded like the characters in my mind. Some younger characters even sounded old to me. But I am very picky.
I loved the twists and turns in this book and how everything came full circle. I liked how it spoke to human emotions and how they can hold you back from finding your dreams. I did find it odd at how accepting people were of Lacey being from the future but overall it was a fun read. The narration was a little off for me but it was fine. I received a copy for review.
I have enjoyed the few short stories I have read by this author and thought of course that each was much too short. Unfortunately that’s one of the downfalls especially when you have an author that can write a compelling story. Now though this one is a lot longer and unfortunately while it’s a good story there are so many things that make it drag in spots and shine in others.
I found myself drifting when the author felt it was time to provide imagery which isn’t totally fair. While we needed to understand and fully embrace the time change portion of the read all of the details kinda had my mind wondering even though I could appreciate it, kinda. There is a bit of a mystery and while it was a great twist that kept the story interesting I also found myself confused at some spots. Take all of this with a grain of salt because it doesn’t distract enough to change that I really enjoyed the read and how it played out. I do enjoy this authors style and even with the things that caused minor bumps it isn’t enough to push me away.
I haven’t read a time travel romance in quite awhile and this was just the right one to pick up with (and with a touch of mystery). After crashing her car Lacy is plunged into another place and time, to have a chance meeting with her soul mate Bobby. This paranormal story does jump around a bit and takes a bit to follow at first but the story is intriguing and interesting. I will definitely be reading more by Casi McLean.
Didn’t know if I would enjoy this book going in as it has to do with time travel and I struggle with those kind of reads…..But Casi held my hand and walked me into a enjoyable storyline with likeable characters and interesting subject. If you too are not a fan of time travel give this one a try …it just might begin to change your mind….it for sure did me!
I like the idea of a time travel romance, and I thought this book had a good concept. However, it didn’t quite deliver as I had hoped it would. It was a long story with a lot of back and forth time shifting, and the various jumps made my head spin a bit trying to keep track of the era and year. It was a little bit too much, and the pace of the storytelling was too slow to keep me engaged. It seemed to waver between being a sweet romance and a mystery with a slightly sinister undertone, but in the end, you may be surprised at the way things turned out.
Lots of twists and turns, mystery, time travel and romance to keep you on your toes with this story. Give it a go, you might like it!!
I loved this story that takes a tumble back in time. It was a easy read and hard to put down. I loved reading Bobby/Rob and Maddie/Lacey’s story. Everything in life has to happen for a reason. This story’s HEA was one that made me cry a bucket of tears. It was so sweet. This will be one book I will have to read more then one time to see what I missed the first time around. The author made this book suck you in from the very first page. I loved traveling through history and time. Looking forward to reading the other books in the Lake Lanier Mystery series.
An fascinating paranormal romance story. Interesting and captivating this is the story of Lacy, who finds herself thrown into a new place under the lake back in time where she meets Bobby. Time travel and soulmates make this book a fun read.
I’m giving this book 3.5 stars. I’ve never read a time travel book before, and the story was interesting, to say the least. I felt the story dragged on a little bit, but at times, pulled me right in.
I was so fascinated with the whole plot of this book. I like the idea of time travel. To have a chance to go and live in the past and experience things you may have only read about it seen in photos. Being a part of history without even realizing it is mind blowing. The love story between Lacey/Maddie and Bobby was so sweet, pure and everlasting. I loved the language barrier between the times, and reading about the simple times of the past.
Beneath the Lake is an original mystery/thriller/romance with a fun time-travel twist. Lacey and Bobby’s story is intriguing and unique, and I particularly enjoyed getting to know the rest of the town of Sidney, and Bobby’s sister, Sandy.
Casi McLean’s writing paints a beautiful picture of the lake as well as the town beneath it, but is, at times a bit hard to follow, partly given the way the story’s woven together over multiple time periods with some big secrets. There’s also one particular plot point that drove me crazy with impatience: (view spoiler), although it ultimately worked out okay for the story.
This is a standalone within a series, and tells a complete story while setting up the jumping off point for another couple in the next Lake Lanier Mystery.
Overall, I really enjoyed Beneath the Lake and will continue the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was a taken by the idea of time traveling, love stories with that premise. I was a little disoriented in the beginning but the story is fundamentally good. I like the protaganists and root for them to succeed. Give the book time to develop. it does. Recommended.
This was a very good read. It kept me on my toes and I really wanted to know what all the mystery was about. I did have d a hard time following some of the time lines since it jumped around but I did get used to it.
While I enjoyed the story I found this book quite frustrating at times. Being that its a “time hop” type of book you expect some back and forth between the times but I felt it switched a bit too often for my tastes. You would just be getting into one era and it would switch again.
The characters were well written and likeable. If you are a fan of time travel romance its worth a read.
Well worth reading. When I started this book, I really wasn’t sure I could read it, I felt very confused at the start and really couldn’t work out where the book was going or what going on. Each chapter switched between the two timelines and trying to meld them together in the start was hard, and made little sense to me. However, I am so happy I stuck with it, as the book goes on, the two timelines started to make sense and I began to understand what was going on. From then on, it became a page turner and had me totally engrossed.
Interesting love story. Love can defy time. Time traveling to a happy ever after.
For me, this was a totally new genre, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover what an excellent job this author was able to do to draw her readers into this exciting romance.
This turned out to be an intriguing and mysterious time travel story, obviously spanning two time periods. Somehow, Casi McLean is able to move us seamlessly from one location to another. She has also managed to imbue this story with sweet love, caring, understanding and logic. I must say, I am quite impressed with this author and this book.
Beneath the Lake follows Maddie who after a car crash somehow finds herself back in 1949. Here she meets Bobby and the people of Sidney, a town which is soon to be lost forever under a reservoir.
Maddie falls in love with Bobby, but one night he disappears. Maddie is convinced he is alive but after years of searching he’s never found. Then Maddie finds a photograph in her purse, that can only have been put there by Bobby and can only have come from the future. It took me a while to get into the book but when I did I really enjoyed it and it’s unusual plot, with time travel.
