I enjoyed everything about Beneath The Lake by Casi McLean. I like a story I can sink my teeth into, and this book provided that. The multiple time lines running through the story kept me on my toes. The characters are well-drawn and interesting. The plot moved along at a nice pace, and I was thoroughly engrossed and left guessing right to the very end. This is a great read!
This was another world of reading. I was sucked down the drain right with Lacey. There were times I was confused but the story itself took you on a journey. I was trapped just as Lacey was in that town below the waters. I could not put it down. I was very happy that I was on a road trip while I was listening. I did not want it to end. I was eager for each new discovery.
Learning about Lacey/Maggie in both her times was fascinating. Having all things still going on around Lacey/Maggie and finding out what really happened to the town below the lake. The time travel and the two different worlds with characters was fascinating. Each time had its own set of characters that gave to the story as it progressed.
Things that hindered my ability to give it a much higher rating was the wobble of POV. I found that I do not like the switch of POV between 1st and 3rd. It kind of throws me off kilter just a bit and it takes me time to catch back up to where I was. I did find that the variation in the POV was pivotal to the past and present, Maggie/Lacey character. There was a point to it but it just did not go over so well for me.
Beneath the Lake was a simmering sweet romance with mystery, suspense, and much of time (past and present). The protection of the secret of the Lake will become a life-long commitment. There are unique elements to this read that makes it different from other time-travel mystery romances. This was not a predictable read other than Maggie/Lacey and Bobby. That was not always guaranteed.
Narrator Review of . . . BENEATH THE LAKE (Lake Lanier Mysteries, #1) . . . Was everything that I was hoping for and a bit more. I enjoyed the diction, clarity, pacing. Aundrea made the transitions feel like it was second nature. The audio was smooth flowing no lengthy pauses, gaps and no hiccups.
This book was recommended to me, and I’ve very glad I followed up on it. I have really not read books in this genre, but I think I’ve really been missing something. This book was superb. I loved the plot and the characters. As a matter of fact, read it way past the usual time I turn off the lights! It was that compelling.
I love suspense and mystery and this book didn’t disappoint. Simply wonderful and I definitely will be reading more books by Casi. Thanks for writing a great read!
Love can defy time!
Time travel stories can go wrong so easy, and I’m so glad this one went so right! If time travel sounds daunting to you, just pay attention to the time and date when it is given and you will be just fine. I’m a big fan of Doctor Who so the concept of multiple timelines doesn’t phase me.
The story was well written and heartfelt. The steam factor is light for those that do not like those sorts of stories. This story takes place around Lake Lanier, Georgia, which I have lived not too far from at one point in time. I never knew that much detail about it other than it was a man-made lake so of course I had to immediately do some of my own research. The “Lake” in Beneath The Lake is of great importance and in a way its own character. Without it, there would be no story. I wouldn’t say it is the main focus of the story, as I feel that the true point is love and how it sometimes takes us the long way around.
The story has multiple time lines running concurrently but all of them seem to in one way or another focus around Miss Lacey Madison Montgomery. She goes by many version of this name depending on who she is conversing with. She finds her boyfriend in a compromising position at the beginning of the book which becomes the catalyst for her late night ride into the storm that changes her life forever.
It’s really hard to talk about this story without giving anything away, but I can say it’s so good I want to read it again. I want to listen to from the beginning for a completely different experience. It makes me want to do 2 read alongs on my website to this story. One as a new reader experiencing the mystery and a second read to experience the emotions that are sure to come.
This is my first read/listen by Casi McLean and I want more. She wove an excellent story of love and endurance that I could not stop listening to.
Aundrea Mitchell does an excellent job on all levels of story narration. The story telling has levels of expression that makes it more than just the details of the story. The character voices both male and female are distinct and well done and there are a lot of both throughout this story.
This gets 5 time bending hearts out of 5 from me and recommended to anyone who loves a good romantic read with a stellar HEA.

The premise of Beneath the Lake is as mysterious as it is poetic: It assumes the existence of a crack in time, through which characters from different eras may stumble thru and fall in love with each other. This love seems to be inevitably doomed. To sustain it, one or both characters must step away from everything they know and sacrifice their chance of going back to their own world. There is an inescapable feel of disorientation, waking up to an unfamiliar time and place.
When Lacey Montgomery runs away into torrential storm and her car hurtles into an icy lake, she finds herself in the arms of a stranger—the handsome Bobby Reynolds—in a place that is unfamiliar and a time that is simply impossible: a generation before her birth date. He is torn between finding a way to help her return to her own time and wanting to hold her with him forever.
“There’s a hidden code on the northern shore of Lake Lanier where two star-crossed lovers guard the portal that entwined their souls forever beneath the lake.”
Five stars.

While I like time travel romance I don’t listen to a lot of them because I’m quite picky about them. However, I LOVED Beneath the Lake. I picked it up since I’m familiar with lake Lanier and I thought the premise was fun. Casi McLean is a new to me author and I’m glad I took a chance of her. While I figured out some of the mystery I didn’t figure out everything, which makes a great mystery to me. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

Beneath the Lake by Casi Mclean is a paranormal/timeslip romance with elements of suspense in which lovers must weave their destinies across three time periods to be together. The story begins in suspense as a mysterious man slips forward in time and is resolved to reinvent himself and to target Lacy. A year later in 2012, we are introduced to Lacy, a lawyer, attending a party where she finds her longtime boyfriend cheating on her. Enraged, she leaves the party in the midst of a raging storm and her car crashes near a cursed lake where there was once a town and people vanish without a trace. Tracy falls into the lake and time slips back to 1949 when Bobby finds her injured near the lake. As their relationship evolves into something deeper, Lacy faces the risk of losing him if she unexpectedly travels forward in 2012. All of the narratives in the various time periods tie together for a riveting climax with unexpected twists.
Author Casi McLean masterfully weaves the narratives of a mysterious man targeting Lacy at the beginning of the story and Lacy finding herself in the past. It is an inspirational story in which Lacy not only finds true love, but she also finds her purpose by helping residents in the small town negotiate prices for their properties before these are covered by the lake for flood control. The author nimbly juggles the narratives and time periods, keeping the reader in suspense. What I like most about the novel is the fast-paced beginning that hooks you and the compelling ending that ties everything together. For romance readers, the development of the relationship between Lacy and Bobby, an alluring blue-eyed hero, is the centerpiece of the story.
Beneath the Lake is highly recommended for readers who enjoy paranormal/timeslip romance with elements of suspense.
What Did I Just Finished Reading?! WOW! Casi McLean is a New Author for me and She Had me Intrigued from the Very Beginning of BENEATH THE LAKE! Also this is a First Romance Travel Book and there was never a Dull moment page after page while devouring it in ONE day. I Could Not Put It in Down and it was such a Rollercoaster ride of TWISTS AND TURNS INTO the UNKNOWN!! I’m Not Going to Spoil anything for you since it is So Different Uniquely Written plus such an Suspenseful Epic story! A MUST READ BOOK AND definitely looking forward to read more of Casi McLean!!!
Wow this book took me longer than usual to finish because it was the first I read about time traveling and mostly because when it comes to Time Traveling I suck at understanding it.
So let’s see how I can write this review without spoilers. First of all I loved this story, once I got the hang of it I couldn’t put it down. We get the love story of Maddie and Bobbie and how they have to defy the laws of nature to have their HEA.
I really loved the last chapters and how everything is explained at the end and how we connect all the dots. Just marvelous. That’s why I love books over movies anytime.
This book is a time travel which I think is neat and hard to pull off for some authors. Lacey is an attorney who leaves a party when she finds out about her beau, then crashes into Lake Lanier in Georgia. A hunk of a man comes to her rescue and the time travel begins. You have to be a good reader to keep the point in mind or either be confused.
The book was good and I entirely loved the whole book. I read it all in one sitting and stayed up half the night finishing the book. /i love lakes, mysteries, and romances, a good read with a twist you will enjoy.
Good plot, slow paced, very descriptive, and a must read.
Beneath the Lake
by Casi McLean
I got sucked right in. I loved how it was not just a mystery but had a love story that was the sweetest thing ever. There were no explicit sex scenes but that was fine. it was just in tune to the rest of the book. The book had so many twists and turns that I felt kind of dizzy. Now that isn’t a bad thing, I love a book that keeps me on my toes. There is a part two that I am going to just love I know it. I know I read fast but I had this book in one day. That is how good it was. I love how she brought in a lot of things from the ’40s and ’50s into her book. I am a sucker for vintage sets and scenery. The whole lake set up is the best I have read in a long time.
5 out of 5 stars

This is my first book by Casi McLean. I loved this very well written book Beneath the Lake. The story of Lacey/ Maddie and Rob/ Bobby was one I had to follow real close or I was lost. I was confused at first as to what was happening but then the pieces started to fall into place. Going back in time and then going back to the time where you came from must be tramatic. For them to realize where the portal was and it happened during a storm is wild. Both Maddie and Bobby were trying to get back to each other but in different years. I absolutely loved this book. I highly recommend this book. I look forward to more.
Very well written story ; I love the mystery and suspense and the time travel and this story blew me away!
To live in a genuinely caring community is a dream for most people, but rarely a reality. McClean shows us what happens when such a village leaps over time to insure happy endings. With an Our Town flavor, replete with loyal, self-sacrificing characters, McClean shows us the undefeatable power of love.
Lacey Madison Montgomery just caught her cheating boyfriend at her best friend’s party and runs off into the stormy night. As she drives away, she thinks she sees someone in her rearview mirror and is certain she’s being stalked. The last thing she remembers is sliding off the road and crashing her car. When she finally wakes up, she’s being tended to by a hunky knight in shining armor, Bobby Reynolds. Everything around her seems to be vintage, but it’s the newspaper she spots in the morning that lets her know she’s gone back in time 60 years to 1949. Bobby was smitten with Lacey from the moment he saw her and is persistent in his hope that she’ll feel the same about him. There are numerous storylines that weave together seamlessly from the dam that’s being considered to eventually drown out the entire town to the complicated and perfectly drawn plans that involve moving between two time continuums. The movement from past to present and back again, is clear and easy to follow since each switch is clearly indicated. An unknown man, Rob, is following Lacey and slowly putting together plans that allow something to turn out perfectly, but what is it! As everything comes to a conclusion, it couldn’t have worked out any better. There is a stunningly sweet conclusion that makes the world all right, again. The epilogue includes an insight into the next book that continues the story of time travel. Wonderful! Aundrea Mitchell does a wonderful job with the narration. Her well-modulated voice is laced with emotion and personality.
I enjoy time travel and this one took me back to the early 50s and centered around the development of a lake in my hometown. The story has several storylines going. It definitely hooked my attention to the end. It is an interesting and engaging plot.
I liked the storyline it was very interesting. The author did a good job of creating a world that was very easy to imagine, The book kept me guessing until the end.
3.5 stars! The story itself was quite engaging. I mean who doesnt like time travel? The characters were good but the story was slow at times and I struggled with It then. ( for that reason alone I have It 3.5 instead of 4 stars). It starts off fast paced though. Even during the slow times I found myself intrigued as to what would happen next. All in all I enjoyed the book.
Beneath the Lake is my first time travel romance and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Loved Lacey Montgomery and Bobby Reynolds’ story. Highly recommend this book. Great narration.
I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author. At first listen I didn’t like it because I didn’t like the narrator but that changed once I got into the story. The voice for Bobby was a little weird for a hunk, but it was not bad and Lacey/Maddie’s voice was good. I loved the story, and I am not even a big romance fan. Lacey Montgomery goes to a friend’s party in June 2012 even though she really doesn’t want to. She walks in on a woman her boyfriend, who was supposed to be working. She rushes out into a storm , wrecks, and wakes up in November 1949, rescued by a hunk named Bobby, in a town slated to be flooded soon. It was interesting to watch her realize where, or rather when, she is and see everyone’s reaction to her slang. The area of the book, Lake Lanier, Georgia really exists and it was formed when the area was flooded to build a dam. This is also a book about everlasting love. It was a nice interlude in this time of quarantine. I can’t wait to read the others in the series.
