***Jamie A. Waters is definitely an author to watch! This is the best book I’ve read in a while!***
Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1)
By: Jamie A Waters
5 out of 5 stars
This is a creative and intriguing story. It pulls you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let you go until the final page. I loved reading about the characters oh Kayla and Carl. I grew to care about them with each chapter that I read. Kayla is intelligent, independent, strong, and stubborn. The story is well-written and creative. I also enjoyed reading about the other characters that are introduced in the book. The author does a great job in writing a detailed story. There are times that I felt like I was right there with the characters. It is a book I would highly recommend.
She finds.Things in the destroyed cities to find items to sell and she has now gone into his area. He is not happy but he wants to recruit her but she hates them. She is even more danger and only be can help her. She is unsure what to do. What will she do? See what will happen

I am always looking for a new series to follow and here it is! This urban fantasy world of traders and scavengers and the alien/sci-fi element of the mysterious Omni towers is so captivating. Especially when a love triangle is added to the mix. I love Kayla and her feisty ways and no filter mouth. A curvy beauty who is brilliant at any kind of technology. I am invested in her character and want to see her happy. Great storytelling! Can’t wait for the next exciting installment!

This was an awesome read, I again didn’t read the blurb or synopsis before deciding to read this. Sooooo freaking worth it! I love dystopian reads with headstrong leading ladies. The characters, mainly Kayla, are great, the details and world building are also fantastic. This slightly reminded me of Bella Forest’s dystopian series (which I LOVED as well). The crazy love triangle is so awesome with all its delicious drama and the powers are fantastic and intriguing. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in this series!
This is the kind of book that swoops in and restores my faith in the arts. In a dull, dull world where everyone is just putting their own spin on things that already exist and trying to make a buck, Waters comes in and gives us a whole new world to get lost into.
Beneath the Fallen City has complex characters who will prompt all kinds of emotions; some you’ll love, others you’ll love to hate. Others, you might even go back and forth on as more details emerge or they show their true colors.
I had resorted to re-reading old favorites like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games when I really need an escape, another world to get lost in. With this series, I won’t be needing to revisit past reads for a while. The reader gets a world that, while foreign, has plenty we can still relate to and dive right into. Nothing needs further explanation; it’s all made to make perfect sense and be comprehensible, without any long-winded or far-fetched explanations.
There’s action and fighting and various types of drama from romantic to vengeful to plain old greed and there’s adventure; all of it has a bit of a paranormal aspect, but nothing inconceivable. There’s some good versus bad or right versus wrong, but not in the same old, done-to-death way we always see. The reader is also treated to a love triangle of sorts, but not the usual, been-done-to-death type. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say it’s well done, really fun and I definitely have my steady favorite to root for.
Every time I stepped away from this book, all I wanted to do was get back to it. Not much holds my attention these days, let along sucks me in this extremely anymore. It’s so refreshing.
Also, if you want a good, strong female lead or role model, Kayla is a total badass. Read it, buy it for your daughters, nieces, etc. as that front is also covered. Carl is a good male role model, while we’re on the topic: a guy with good intentions and a pure heart. I feel like there is something for everyone to relate to in this complex, action-packed, adventure-filled read.
5 stars. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Kayla has been living as a ruin rat as part of the group let by Leo. She is the best scavenger in the ruins. When Trader Carl catches Kayla in one of his sectors, he offers her a job. Kayla accepts as long as Veridian, the only family she knows, will get a job too. Carl agrees. When Kayla is almost killed by the psycho Trader Ramiro, she finally finds out who she truly is. This story has intrigue, action, murder, lots of romance, some steam, and ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.
What a rush! Beneath the Fallen City by Jamie A. Waters was amazeballs. This page turner kept me riveted from beginning to end. I read the prequel first because, ya know, that’s what they are there for. Although in this case, the prequel had been released after the series had started. So, unlike other readers, I had an inkling of what to expect. Or so I thought.
Kayla is a scavenger. A ruin rat in this new apocalyptic world. Her job is to search abandoned cities for artifacts to exchange for critical life-saving supplies. And she’s good at it. Real good. She knows the rarest artifacts that will get her camp the most credits are found in the most dangerous ruins. Those are the ones under control by the OmniLab traders. Carl is one of those traders and he knows the only way to stop her from poaching in his district is to recruit her. Nope, not going to happen. That is until one of the other traders starts hunting Kayla for revenge. Now the only way to protect herself is to join up with Carl and OmniLab. If she does, her life is going to be changing – drastically. The only question is: will it be for the better?
Holy WOW! This was non-stop excitement. Having been introduced to Kayla in the prequel, I had some preconceived notions about her, annnnd had to toss them right out of my head. She’s smart, quick, and quite the spite fire. Guess you had to be if you are running on survivor mode 24/7. The story is fast paced, full of twists and reads like it is three stories in one. It begins with what became of Kayla once she joins Leo’s camp, moves onto what happens when she becomes a trader, followed by (queue the ominous music) a trip to OmniLab. GASP! See that line in the blurb that reads “Only everything isn’t quite what it seems.” That wasn’t a joke. Be prepared to have your mind blown.
As I mentioned in my previous review, I really liked how Ms. Waters painted a very good picture of possibilities. We do get a bit more information of how the world, and the survivors, got to where they are now. The layers keep peeling back and more is exposed. I still have more questions, but I am getting a better sense of it all. I know it’s not the most important thing, but I do like to know the whats and whys of the worlds I am reading. Either way, this is shaping up to be a great series and can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Stars: 4
I received this book from BookSirens. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story opened up into so much more than I was expecting. It seemed straightforward story of survival.
We start off with Kayla and Veridian at the ruins, which echos the adventure from prequel with Veridian’s mom.
The world continues to expand as Kayla crosses paths with traders, both intent on their own agenda, which gets the Omni towers involved.
There is so much more going beneath the surface in this world! There is definite re-readability in this series. I cannot wait to go back an read it again after I have discovered all the secrets. The twists keep coming. It is hard to know who to trust. Will their agendas continue to align, or will they betray them for their own gain?
Story is a wild ride up until the end, which is more a closing of this adventure and sets up the next one. I cannot wait to dive in for more!

Action packed book that you won’t want to put down. There is intrigue and romance in a post apocalyptic, dystopian world.
Kayla grew up as a ruin rat (scavenger) working in a camp in the wastelands of the post apocalyptic world where it was a struggle to survive. Items that were scavenged were sold to traders who worked for the Omni Towers. This created a love hate relationship between the ruin rats and the traders as neither could survive without the other.
The author does a wonderful job of describing Kayla’s tumultuous feelings as she is hit with one surprise after another. She finds out she was born in the Towers and has powers that enable her to control energy and share energy with other power users. This has caused her to form a bond with Alec, a member of the Inner Circle and have feelings for him but, where does that leave Carl? Carl is the trader that she has fallen in love with and currently lives on the surface, not in the Tower.
What is a girl to do? Especially when she finds out about a nefarious plot going on within the tower directly affecting her mother?
Excellent read. I can’t wait to review the sequel.

Wowza!!!! Yhis author has a unique way of keeping her audience totally captivated! I thought this was a dystopian/apocalyptic series when I started reading it but very quickly found out it is so much more! There is magic and hints of Dragons. Kayla has discovered that she is a child of the Inner Circle that they all thought dead. She enters the dreaded Towers and discovers a whole new world, one full of political intrigue and deception. The leader of the Inner Circle is power hungry and has manipulated the Inner Circle for his gain. Kayla will stop at nothing to correct the injustices committed, neither in the Tower nor outside. She has no idea of how powerful her magic is, but refuses to allow anyone to manipulate her. She is a wonderful character, so strong and compassionate and her independence and free will are paramount to her. She learns from Alec what her powers can do and even though I tried hard to dislike him, he proves to be a genuine person, yet he wants Kayla to be his. Carl, on the other hand, has already captured Kayla’s heart but the bond she feels with Alec is literally on another level. It’s a fascinating story, interesting and intriguing and a great read
I should know better than to start a Jamie Waters book on a Sunday when I don’t have anything pressing enough to pull me away from her words.
I didn’t know what to expect from Beneath the Fallen City, I only knew that Jamie’s ongoing Dragon Portal series had completely captivated me and I was curious enough to delve into her other works.
I did read the prequel, and was curious about the intrigue of the towers, the ruins, the life these so-called “ruin rats” led amid their disdain for those living above. But jumping into Kayla’s life as a scavenger and watching as utter chaos unfolded… it was a ride that I definitely didn’t see coming.
The sassiness and steam are immediate and likely a driving factor in the enthusiasm I felt in continuing through the story… but when the true mystery came to the surface and the *real* action unfolded.. Man. I cannot wait to see where this goes.
This story was great! The action and adventure was non-stop and kept you turning the pages. I enjoyed finding out what happened with Kayla and V as they grew up. I am sorry that they lost the mother figure in their lives, but it does happen. I have been curious about the people in the Towers since the prequel book and boy I tell you a snobby bunch they are. Kayla saves the day, I love a strong female lead, one who doesn’t take any stuff from anyone. I really enjoyed the story and I am looking forward to getting more stories in this series.

I loved this book. What I liked most about it was the fact that Kayla, a ruin rat, was a strong personality who had faced loss, had a deep sense of responsibility and had a talent she was not aware of. She has a strong brother figure to lean on. Carl is a trader who will only be in his job temporarily before going back to the towers. He is drawn to Kayla to recruit her for his team as well as in other ways. This is their story. I enjoyed it very much. It was a really great book and I highly recommend it.
This was a good book, definitely out of my normal goto’s. There was a little too much romance for me. I received as a ‘blind date’ I would reread again when not on a time schedule.
I was really getting in to the story even thought there may have been hope for Kayla then enter Alex. The story starts off well enough but quickly turns and suddenly the story shifts from better to alright and predictable. In the beginning we have more insight into the characters and the author building background with imagery and good development of characters but once we hit the tower all of that goes by the wayside meanwhile Kayla is still making poor choices yet now she is being manipulated and part of a love triangle. Sad because this is a new to me author and I was excited about the direction of the story.
When I first read the synopsis of this book it didn’t really resonate with me. So, I passed it by on one or two occasions. One day when I just didn’t have anything else going on, I picked this book. And WOW I am glad I did. I have to say I am well and truly hooked into this series. In Beneath the Fallen City: The Omni Towers Series, Book 1 Jamie A. Waters has given us a world that is so well described you come away feeling like you are as familiar with that culture as you are your own. The two cultures in this book are meticulously described and so well fashioned. Kayla is tough, tough, tough and stubborn to boot. Right away you are sucked into wondering what could produce a young woman so hard-headed, and you just keep reading cause, you gotta know……right? Carl our hero of this story……or wait……maybe it’s Alec you just won’t know until you pick this one up and immerse yourself into the ruins and the Omnitower. There are some sexual situations that might be offensive to some, but this book gets a maximum rating from me and I really am looking forward to the next one.
Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1) by Jamie A. Waters. I find myself want to expand my horizons in the reading world so I was glad to pick up this book and give it a try. And I’m so glad I did. I found myself completely drawn into this world the author has created in a short time and found I really enjoyed the adventure I was taken on with Kayla and the other characters. Kayla’s character was one I won’t be forgetting anytime soon I just loved her attitude and found I really wanted to have a friend just like her. Like I said this was a bit outside my wheel house of reading but that being said I was impressed with the characters and storyline. It’s well written and paced nicely. It’s a unique story and I found myself not wanting it to end. I’m excited to see where readers are taken next. Four stars and highly recommended!
This story is so good. I don’t usually read dystopian stories but thought I would give this one a try as I may get the chance to meet this author in a few months. I am so glad I did!
The setting of this story is after the apocalypse. People have been divided, obviously. Kayla is our main character. She is rough, tough and oh so sexy. She is completely awesome. She’s smart, funny and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She lives to find lost treasure. However, others want the lost treasures of the world as well. Carl being just one of them. Carl is also rough, tough and oh so sexy. He is a little higher on the social scale than Kayla but you wouldn’t know it. These two cause problems for each other as soon as they meet.
With some unexpected twists, these two end up fighting for love, humanity and basically world peace! The adventure Kayla takes is breath-taking and a little unbelievable. She learns things about herself she never even imagined.
I “hated” the way this story ended, mostly because I didn’t want it to end at all! So glad there is more!
Highly recommend this story!
