Beneath the Fallen City by Jamie A. Waters a four-star read that will swoop in and save you. This is number one in the Omni Towers series and if the rest are as good then it shows great promise of being a series you wont want to miss, as this has some great world building and some great backstory for the characters, that for a single story wouldn’t work very well, but as a series shows great promise for the story. This is a great story of action and adventure with some love thrown in to change up the mix, Kayla is a great character and one you won’t want to miss.
Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1)
By Jamie A. Waters
My rating 5 out of 5 stars
I love post-apocalyptic stories and this book definitely did not disappoint me. There is action, romance and drama, all tying together to make for an excellent read. The characters were very well developed and the story sucked me in right away.
Kayla is one of our main characters. She is strong and independent and can stand on her own. She works as ruin rat, finding artifacts to trade. Carl is handsome, and works as a trader for Omni Lab, who acquires the artifacts requested from kayla.
There is an immediate attraction between the two, but they also both despise each other because of their different backgrounds. Carl ends up wanting to recruit Kayla to be on his team and at the same time Kayla is being hunted.
This book is again, so excellent and well worth the read. I do hope we get to see more of Veridian and read more of his story as well but either way I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Beneath the Fallen City by Jamie A Waters is the first book in The Omni Towers series. I jumped right in and I am glad I did. This is a dystopian story with a science-fiction edge to it. Kayla is a survivor and tough to boot. When she becomes the hunted she has to team up with her enemy. I do not want to give more away because you need to read Kayla’s adventure to find out what happens. The writing is really well done and kept me reading from start to finish. I enjoyed the different characters and how they helped bring me into their world. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I have never had the pleasure of reading anything by Jamie A. Waters previous to Beneath the Fallen City. I really just loved the cover and the blurb was just enough divulging that I really wanted to know what the whole story was. Beneath the Fallen City is the first of The Omni Towers Series. I felt like there is something for everyone with this book. You have the dystopian world that is post-apocalyptic. Of course there is the action and adventure that seems to accompany the genre but I like the drama and character stories. They add a flare that I feel lacks in a lot of the dystopian novels that I find myself reading. I definitely enjoyed our MC, Kayla. She is a strong voice and a strong woman who takes up the task without hesitation. I loved the world building as well. I felt as if I was in the far off world with Kayla as she scavengers and attempts to keep herself alive and in one piece. I am looking forward to seeing what the next books will bring. In the time I wait I will go and see what else might be available by Jamie A Waters.
What a brilliant introduction to this new author. This being my first read from Jamie A. Waters I didn’t know what to expect, but I was most definitely not disappointed, this author has an incredible writing style one that’s full of action, adventure and romance.
This author has created a storyline that is captivating and keeps you hooked from start to finish, and characters that are well developed, relatable and you can’t help but really enjoy following their journey. This book has twists and turns that leave you wanting more.
I cant wait to see what else happens in this series and what more this author can bring!
I give Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1) by Jamie A. Waters.
Ok, this is a new author to me and it sounded good, but I have been disappointed so many times in the past, I had no idea what to expect. OH. MY. GOD. This book was so good! The story itself is original and captures you from the beginning, never letting go until the end. And there is so much to the story! I found at least two different spots where a other books might end, but the story just keeps going on. You definitely get your money’s worth buying this book. The story itself covers many feelings: despair, love, fear, hope, and some humor thrown in to make it a rollercoaster ride of emotions you will happily ride. The world building is superb too, the author totally paints the picture of what she envisioned and you feel like you are there.
But we can’t forget the characters. Kayla is a superb main character. She feels lost, her parents have been gone for so long and in one way or another has lost all those she loved. Her best friend is all she has. Then she meets more people along the way and she has to decide if she should open her heart or not. There are many decisions she has to make in the story, and she uses her heart and what she has learned to decide. Most people do not understand her, but that still hasn’t stopped her from caring. There are so many secondary characters I could mention too, but I do no want to give anything away. I can say though that each one — whether friend or foe — is individual and stands apart from the others. There are quite a few I hope to see in the next book.
Ok, I think I am done gushing now. I have found a new author to love and cannot wait to read the next book. Needless to say, I highly recommend this wonderful book!
5 Star
Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1) by Jamie A. Waters is a very well written and I found it to be engaging as well. I found myself lost in the pages and couldn’t stop reading till the end. 150 years after a world war has destroyed the Earth, Kayla savage’s through rubble looking for goods that she can sell it for necessities. Kayla works with a group of other but is a girl who can hold her own. Carl is her nemesis and an official trader. He has a habit of ripping her off amongst others. Although there is definitely a attraction between them she really doesn’t want to stick around.. These two are not able to live OmniLab Towers, they were built before the war and only allow select people who are usually wealthy. Find out what happens next in this must read. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
One of the great things about Kindle Unlimited is that I can borrow books that I wouldn’t “normally” read.
BENEATH THE FALLEN CITY is the first book of what looks like a 6 book series (so far). Book 1 is a lot of world building detailing the who’s who and the what’s what.
There are a few weird twists and it seems as if the story line was being plotted as it was written. It changes direction and it never really puts itself back in the same direction again.
I will be adding book 2 to my TBR pile because I am curious enough to how the story continues.
Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1) by Jamie A. Waters is a paranormal romance. It is a story set in the future where going outside could kill you and there is a distinct separation between the classes. The empowered in the tower and the ruin rats who make a living foraging for treasures.
Kayla has spent her life in the ruins looking for treasure, it gives her a sense of calming being there, but her methods have raised the notice of others. Some good some not so good. But what happens on a routine trade changes her life and who she is forever.
It is a well written story that will keep you fully engrossed to the dangers and goings on in the world that Jamie has created. Whilst I truly loved this story, I do not agree with the author (cause you know it is my story, lol) on the choice of Alec and Kayla together, it’s a NO from me. This needs to be fixed, (Jamie break that bond) because I fell in love with Carl.
Anywho, it is absolutely worth the read. Bring on more Kayla and Carl………………………….

5-Stars
Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers Series Book 1) by Jamie A. Waters was an excellent read! I absolutely loved how easily this novel pulled me in! I could not put it down. It was creative, fun, and full of adventure. The characters were realistic and developed well. The author describes each one in an easy to visualize manner. I also loved how descriptive the author described the various settings. Since this is the first book in this series, I am extremely excited for what comes next. I highly recommend this book.

Beneath the Fallen City is the first book in The Omni Towers Series by Jamie A. Waters. I really loved this book- the story really drew me in and had me avidly following along on this incredible journey. The story is a mix of dystopian, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, fantasy, action, and adventure. It’s quite unpredictable and kept me guessing much of the time. With tension, intrigue, danger, secrets, revenge, discoveries, scavengers, traders, and plenty of drama to keep things moving along- I was completely captivated. I fell in love with Jamie A. Water’s stories, imagination, and writing style after reading “How to Kill a Fae”, just recently, and there began my fascination with her work. When I found this book- I knew I NEEDED to read it, so I grabbed a copy and dove right in.
What I discovered between the covers was an incredibly well-woven story full of rich and vibrant details which brought the whole story to life. The characters are cleverly crafted into fully realised interesting and complex individuals, with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws.
The world building is superb- Ms. Water’s skilfully created a complex, vividly detailed, and interesting world in which to stage her story. As I noted previously, her attention to detail is remarkable- giving the story much depth and complexity.
Kayla is a scavenger in this post-apocalyptic world- searching the ruins of cities for anything valuable as her means of survival. We join her on this adventure as her scavenging brings her to the attention of a trader intent on recruiting her- as well as a dangerous man who begins hunting her. She soon discovers that nothing is what it seems- and she is thrust into way more than she bargained for. And so the excitement begins.
This was such a fantastic start to the series- and I can’t wait to continue the adventure!
Thank you, Jamie A. Waters!
Beneath the Fallen City by Jamie A. Waters is the first book in the Omni Towers series. This is an interesting and imaginative book to read.
I have to say that this book surprised me. I expected it to be pretty similar to others that I have read like it however the story wasn’t what I expected. It started down one path and the the author seemed to completely change direction with it, making it wholly unpredictable.
The characters were fun to read about as well. The interactions between them were always varied. I think this is a great start so far to the series and I can’t wait to read more!
Beneath the Fallen City is the first book inte Omni Towers series by Jamie A. Waters. This story contains some science-fiction, action, and romance all rolled up into this story. Waters has created a great plot line and fully developed characters. In this book we meet Kayla and read about her story. Kayla is on her own trying to find artifacts in the dangerous ruins. She takes her finds to get the critical life-saving supplies she needs. One thing about Kayla that you learn early on is that she hates traders. She finds herself in a little bit of a mess. Will Kayla be able to survive to keep getting those supplies she needs or will Kayla get into trouble way over her head? This is one story you will have to read for yourself.
I cannot wait to read book 2. Thank you Jamie A. Waters for a new series to read.
This new to me author is such a refreshing addition to my library. I found this book engaging and wonderfully detailed. For some reason it felt like an Indiana Jones adventure. I loved every page and look forward to reading further in the series.
I enjoyed this book. It is a little science fiction with a touch of paranormal story about dystopain earth. It has a flow of characters that keep you reading and made the story feel realistic. This is a well developed story that is engaging and will keep you turning pages. Kayla is a scavenger who invades the wrong district that leads to revenge and someone hunting her. Will the twists and turns lead to survival? I highly recommend reading this book and find out what happens to Kayla.
“This was overall an entertaining read, but it didn’t know what it wanted to be. The initial set up has been seen in books as old as HG Wells The Time Machine, with the havenots barely scraping together a survival by selling artifacts scavenged from the remains of the prior civilization to the wealthy denizens of the Omni Towers.
It starts as tech based sci-fi with quite a bit of cyber tech thrown in and then all of a sudden it is paranormal psychic phenomenon. The lead is presented as a strong, sassy, gifted woman, but is written like the lead in a romance. The amount of hormone driven thoughts and sex was unnecessary to this type of book and took away from the pacing and feel of the book, especially since it seems to skew YA.
Danger, suspense, intrigue, romance, mystery, betrayal, and a disquieting dystopia. This book has it all, but in trying to appeal to so many audiences, it never really found a clear voice.”
I give this book a 3.75. It’s not a 3.5 but not quite a 4 for me, but to be fair I’m on a series hangover waiting for a new book to come out so maybe this affected my attention on this book. I wanted to love it. A friend suggested it and she gave it a 5 and she rarely does that. It was interesting but lost my interest a couple of times. I’m definitely going to read book two and see how it compares.
If I could give BENEATH THE FALLEN CITY six stars, I would. Once I started reading, I could not put this book down. From the first page, as Kayla crashes through the floor of the building she was exploring, I felt like I was right there with her. The scenes, as described by this author, had me actually feeling like I was right there amongst the dust and debris and ancient artifacts.
Oh! And the characters! I loved Kayla with her snarky, totally capable, quick tempered, tough-girl image, and yet so fully developed as a character, the reader was able to see the soft, vulnerable side of her as well. And Carl. OMG! Just reading about this guy had my heart thumping in overtime. Then there is Alec. Wow! What more could a gal ask for? Not generally a fan of love triangles, but this one is done so well that I am truly intrigued and can’t wait to read the next two books in this series.
About the story… In this post-apocalyptic world, the elite (or those who were able to afford the price) live in the gleaming white towers built by OmniLab. These people have grown up in a world where life is easy and food and water and other commodities are readily accessible. Those not able to afford the price of residency are forced to be scavengers on the surface and live in camps where conditions are harsh. Kayla is a ruin rat who has learned to survive by finding items in the ruins that can be sold to the various traders, who in turn sell these items to the people in the Omni Towers. When a strange turn of events puts Kayla in the middle of the Omni Towers corruption, sparks fly. Be prepared for lots of action and intrigue. Fascinating story line!
Jamie A. Waters is an author to watch. Her ability to create such well-developed characters and pull you into her fascinating world is simply awesome! I understand that Kayla’s story is pretty much complete at the end of Book 3 in this series, but then, because there are so many other wonderful characters, there will be three additional books based in this world about some of the other characters. I, for one, cannot wait to read them all!
Kayla’s world is a place that’s been s ravaged by nuclear and biological wars, leaving what people that have survived living in either places that have withstood the attacks; or survivalist shelters. She is a ‘ ruin rat’, a scavenger of what valuable items remain in the desiccated world, that fuels the lifestyle of residents living in alien white towers. For Kayla, her life as a scavenger turns dangerous when another trader seeks out revenge; forcing to make an alliance with Carl, whom she can at least trust. When an representative from the towers comes to speak to Kayla, it’s thought to about Ramiro… then her life is forever altered. She is one of these Omni Towers people, and when she and her team visits; everyone becomes embroiled in a wasps nest of corruption, family secrets, and romance. It will take the abilities and of all involved to withstand omnipresent darkness that threatens the lives inside the towers as well as those outside. As you read though the story’s layers, the reader becomes a fellow scavenger, digging up the answers to the beginning of an intriguing series. Highly recommended
