Ah. Colleen Coble. Can’t go wrong with her romantic suspense novels. In this latest installment, we revisit Rock Harbor and all the wonderful characters like Bree, Kade, Laurie, Mason, and the gang. This book can be read as a stand-alone. But if you’ve been following Bree and Kade’s life and adventure, it’s nice to see them settled into a wonderful family routine.
The setting of Rock Harbor, especially in the winter and the snow storms, is a chilling backdrop for a great suspense novel. Ms. Coble’s writing is fast-paced and the anticipation of “what will happen next?!?!” totally keeps the pages turning well into the night. The twists and turns in the story really took me for a roller coaster ride.
Boone is a successful outfitter and an ex-smoke jumper who’s given up on finding love due to his scars from a work-related injury. His emotional scars run very deep and he can’t seem to climb out of his bitterness and isolation.
Dana is a sweet-tempered and loving woman returning to Rock Harbor after a rocky relationship. She reconnects with Bree and Boone’s cousin Allyson as the plot literally thickens and she’s thrown into danger.
The path to forgiveness and belief in the omnipotent, omniscient, and loving God is riddled with self-doubt, fading memories, and fresh hurts but this path becomes smoother for both Boone and Dana as they walk it together.
I recommend this book for anyone who loves Christian romantic suspense.
I received ARC of the book from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley. I was not required to write a review or write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Characters: Boone and Dana were both sympathetic characters, but I never connected with them. Maybe I was just in a weird mood …
Language: Clean.
Moral: Boone and Dana both learned that how you look is way less important than your character. Dana also struggled with talking to people at work about God and had to overcome that.
Plot: The plot definitely had its interesting moments. I did get frustrated with Boone and Dana when they had pretty clear evidence a certain someone was the villain and didn’t act on it. And of course, they fell for the villain’s tricks. I understand things needing to happen for the plot to work, but … I just wish Boone and Dana hadn’t been so oblivious.
Random comments: That one weird part at the end where Boone and Dana had to snuggle while wearing only their underwear after they about froze to death … Yeah, I don’t even know why it had to be in there, but it was for first-aid reasons and wasn’t presented in a romantic fashion. But it was still weird …
Romance: Clean. A little too much kissing and sitting on laps for me, though. Yeah, I know I’m picky.
Writing: The writing seemed detached, and I felt like a lot of the characters’ emotions were skimmed over.
Overall: Even though this wasn’t my favorite book, I’d still recommend it to readers who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.
In Beneath Copper Falls, we return to Rock Harbor for book #6 in the series. It has been a while since I’ve read any of the Rock Harbor books, but Colleen Coble provides enough backstory that you don’t have to have read the other recently, or at all. Reading the others will enhance your enjoyment of the book though.
Dana escapes an abusive relationship to return to Rock Harbor to live with her cousin/adoptive brother. Dana becomes friends with Boone, who has his defenses up. When her friend is murdered just a few days later, Dana realizes she hasn’t exactly left the past behind her, and that the past isn’t what she has thought it was all these years.
This book was a thrilling page turner, with a nice dose of romance thrown in.
I received a copy of the paperback from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own. I also listed to the audio book through my local library.
Love the suspense and realistic characters. Never want her novels to end when I’m reading them!
I love Colleen Coble. I believe I have read all her books. I especially like the fact that these books are exciting and suspenseful but yet clean and I don’t have to wade through a bunch of foul language to enjoy a good mystery/romance novel.
I enjoy reading all of the books of the author. Her books are always spell binding and hold my interest until the end.
There were lots of twists and turns in the book it keep you thinking
Awesome book! I love this author!
Love all of Coble’s books. Cannot wait to read the others set in this town. Never would have guessed the villain. Exciting to the last page !
Excellent and suspenseful novel that kept my interest throughout. Good character development. Just enough romance without becoming sappy. I’ll read more of Colleen Coble.
Couldn’t put this book down but so sorry that it had to end! Easy to get caught up with the characters but difficult to predict the motives and reasons for the danger they were facing.
I loved visiting Rock Harbor again. Without giving any kind of spoiler alert, all I can say about this book is WOW!
So glad to catch up with the characters from Rock Harbor from previous books.
I received this book from The Fiction Guild. I was not asked to give a favorable review. All I can say is wow. This is a wonderful continuation of the series. It has so many twist and turns with this story but keeps the strength of each individual available to figure out who does the killing in this book. I couldn’t put it down when they started figuring out who the killer was and surprised me in the end. But I love that each of them brought their strengths to help investigate the death that occurred and looked into other same crimes. Colleen writes such wonderful books that they draw you in from the beginning to the end. I look forward to more from this series.
One of my very favorite authors of Christian storytelling!
Colleen Coble never disappoints with her books. I have loved every book I have read from her, and I have to say I have read alot. This is a must read.
Love this author . Really good book.
Anything she writes is WONDERFUL!! You don’t figure them out in the first chapter
Very good read.
I usually love her books but not this one. I couldn’t even finish it. I thought it was very depressing and just a downer. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anybody.
