Soon to be a major television event from Pascal Pictures, starring Tom Holland.
Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, the USA Today and #1 Amazon Charts bestseller Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during one of history’s darkest hours. Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian … the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian teenager—obsessed with music, food, and girls—but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior.
In an attempt to protect him, Pino’s parents force him to enlist as a German soldier—a move they think will keep him out of combat. But after Pino is injured, he is recruited at the tender age of eighteen to become the personal driver for Adolf Hitler’s left hand in Italy, General Hans Leyers, one of the Third Reich’s most mysterious and powerful commanders.
Now, with the opportunity to spy for the Allies inside the German High Command, Pino endures the horrors of the war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, his courage bolstered by his love for Anna and for the life he dreams they will one day share.
Fans of All the Light We Cannot See, The Nightingale, and Unbroken will enjoy this riveting saga of history, suspense, and love.

Amazing life story and the author was transformed by the memories of Pino Lela. Although he never sought recognition for the lifesaving efforts he made during the German occupation of Italy during World War II Pino has finally received accolades because of this book
An incredible true story of Italian resistance to the Nazis in the last 2 plus years of
World War II. Well told.
This was a page turner for anyone interested in WWII. The book is a well written piece of nonfiction. The story is so compelling and a movie is currently in the making. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
Fabulous story of true events. I learned so much about Nazi occupation in Milan Italy. Super prologue and afterward by author. Very thoroughly researched.
Could Not Put This Book Down!!! The story of two teenage boys thrust into the intrigue of WWII, Pino and Mimo Lella take different paths to rid Italy of Nazi and Fascist rule. Are they doomed to be enemies? Their heroic acts seem to clash! From guiding Jews to safety over snowbound Alps, to driving the ruthless Nazi General Leyers as he strips Italy of manpower and supplies, all is not as it seems. These unsung heros of the Italian Resistance have their lives tragically changed forever in this remarkable coming of age tale. Highly recommend this read!
I loved this book. I could not put it down
Read it in one day!
One of the best books I’ve ever read
So far very boring
Great insight into the American Soldier and his/her lot in the current operational environment.
A wondrful tale based on a true story of a young Italian man during the Nazi occupation of Milan. I turely enjoyed reading this book, although it was sometimes a haunting story of overcoming great odds and survival.
Wonderful true story.
Loved this book. Glad I read it and am really looking forward to a movie that truly follows the story and Tom Cruise isn’t the lead!
wow, this book held a lot of action , the instances did not always turn out for the good guys,it was real. Good job of research to make the story stay true to life as it was.
Very well written. Keeps you on your toes.
Compelling and heart-wrenching.
War really IS hell!
It was really a great book and a true story about Hitler and WWII. I learned a great deal about the occupation of Italy. The main character was a real person who did great things to help people who were persecuted by the Nazis.
The book gives an interesting, and well-researched, look into a part of WWII history.
Wonderful autobiography!!!
Hard to put down this story of an Italian teen’s experience in WW II as a spy for the Germans. Based on the author’s interviews with Pino, the teen spy, who was a driver for an important German general, it reads like the novel it is.
