Soon to be a major television event from Pascal Pictures, starring Tom Holland.
Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, the USA Today and #1 Amazon Charts bestseller Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during one of history’s darkest hours. Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian … the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian teenager—obsessed with music, food, and girls—but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior.
In an attempt to protect him, Pino’s parents force him to enlist as a German soldier—a move they think will keep him out of combat. But after Pino is injured, he is recruited at the tender age of eighteen to become the personal driver for Adolf Hitler’s left hand in Italy, General Hans Leyers, one of the Third Reich’s most mysterious and powerful commanders.
Now, with the opportunity to spy for the Allies inside the German High Command, Pino endures the horrors of the war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, his courage bolstered by his love for Anna and for the life he dreams they will one day share.
Fans of All the Light We Cannot See, The Nightingale, and Unbroken will enjoy this riveting saga of history, suspense, and love.

Ii have read many books concerning World War II and the tragic stories about people caught up in it. This is a first to read about how the war effected the people of Italy and especially this family and their friends and associates. It is a story of courage and sacrifice to help others. I look forward to the movie.
Informative novel that will bring you into WWII Italy. It’s the story at the heart of this book that makes it worth reading — how it illuminates a resistance that you may or may not have a deeper awareness of. Some of the writing and tone felt somewhat sentimental at times, but it’s the story that kept me reading.
Very touching story! I had no idea Italy was as affected and destroyed as Germany and Britain.
This was an amazing read!!! All the time I listened to the story I had to keep telling myself “This is a true story.” The author spent 10 years thoroughly researching the facts and then wrote with great skill. Never a dull moment and yet it pictures Italy upclose during the last years of WWII. Highly recommend!!
True story, a part of WWII history I did not know.
Stayed up all night til 4 am to finish it!
If you have any interest in WWII you will enjoy this book. It exposes the human weakness as well as the spirit and drive to survive. It isn’t necessarily about the war but rather one man’s view of the war and the German occupation of Italy.
Excellent book. It was interesting and informative.
It’s so sad it’s true! Nazis were demons!
Great read taking place duringnWW2….loved the book
This book was good view of the consequences of WW11 for the Italian people. Very engaging and well written.
Well written, amazing true story about a different experience of WWII. Inspiring, heroic young man making an immense difference for so many at a horrible time in history.
An absorbing read. A very likable protagonist. A must for readers who like WWII novels.
Terrible prose. I couldn’t even finish what could have been a decent story because it’s so badly written
This book was impossible to put down The story keeps you involved all the way through. I recommend it to all readers
Fascinating piece of history. It’s easy to overlook Italy in all the WWII writing about Germany. This reads like a spy novel, but one with unrealistic plot points — except it is a well-researched true story.
True story that took place in Italy in WWII. Maticulously researches. Reads like fiction.
Fantastic story. Can’t wait to see the movie
I enjoyed it very much. It was a true story of WW11 in Italy.
Loved it!
Well written character analysis.
True story!
