A fairy determined to escape an arranged marriage. A vampire cast out from his kind. An ensuing war that will compel them to look past hatred and lies to find the love they both so desperately need. I’m Fiona Kelly, a human-fairy hybrid with a healthy hatred for my supernatural half. My life was turned upside down when a man showed up at my doorstep claiming to be my fairy father with a life all … father with a life all laid out before me. If I didn’t go quietly with him, I wouldn’t go anywhere ever again. Now I’m betrothed to a man I have no feelings for, living a life I don’t want, and longing for the day when I’ll be able to get away.
When the fae plot to steal the child of the vampire king of Velum Mortis, I can’t stand by and do nothing. I have to take her to the vampire king’s brother Lucien to ensure her safety and buy my freedom.
He’s a vampire. I’m a fairy. We’re natural enemies, so then why am I having this vision of the two of us embracing as lovers when he touches me?

This is book three of the Vampires of the Velum Mortis Series. Lucian, a vampire plus more and Fiona, a Fae halfling both lost their soulmates before meeting. Their insta-love occurred due to trickery by the evil Faes. Even though they both fought against the attraction, nature took it’s course. Very good read!

Fiona Kelly didn’t know about the Fae until one showed up claiming to be her father. She wouldn’t have believed him, except that his eyes were the same odd color as her own; and she had some skills that she could never explain before then. She didn’t get a choice in the matter, though, because he had plans for her and had to cooperate or die. He explained her heritage and introduced her to her fiancé she had no interest in marrying. She had to return to the Fae realm weekly, but could remain otherwise at home until the wedding date.
There had been a great war hundreds of years ago, and the Fae king Cathan had been killed. Now Queen Aine wanted vengeance. As far as Fiona could tell from what she heard of the war, the Fae king had started that unnecessary war and paid the price for his actions. But she kept quiet. Now the Queen had a new target – they would take the life of the vampire king Liam’s recently born daughter. The vampires’ path to the human realm has been destroyed, though they probably didn’t realize it yet. So the Queen said they would hide the child away while the vampires starve, trapped on the other side of the veil. Then they would make a temporary passage to cross over to them and kill the child in front of her parents. The evil look of agreement on her fiancé Brogan’s face made her certain she would never marry him. Hearing this plan was when Fiona knew the Fae for the vile creatures they were!
The Queen asked for a volunteer to keep the child until they were ready. Fiona realized this would help her rescue the child if she could convince the Queen she was trying to prove her loyalty to them. She would then take the child to the vampire king’s brother and trade her for freedom.
Lucien sat in his office and wondered what his life would be like if he had not lost his mate Gianna. Accused of crimes he didn’t commit, he was the one punished and banished to live with the humans – where he owned the successful “Club Dead” bar. However, the Fae had caused Gianna’s death, and Lucien swore he would not hesitate for a second to kill if one ever crossed his path again. And suddenly, he scented fairy blood as his assistant announced a female visitor! A sudden pain in her shoulder showed Fiona a dagger had been thrown at her. Then a vampire hurled her across the room and created a fireball on his palm, yelling that she was stupid to come there, knowing how he hated the Fae! Before he threw the fireball, she screamed back that she also hated the Fae and that was why she was here! She told him her story and took him to see his niece, Elise. Then he went with her to verify the veil was not passable. Attacked by the Fae, could they survive? Would Lucien be able to defeat so many of his enemy and get word to his brother that Elise was still alive?
This was a really good book, not at all like typical Fae or vampire stories. I enjoyed the differences, and loved Fiona and Lucien’s story line as they teamed up to save Elise and the vampires. The story was exciting and keeps the reader in suspense as the action escalates. Grab your copy – you won’t want to miss this one!
