(Book 1 of 2 in the Belonging Duet)Enough. That single word is all I’ve ever wanted to be. Enough for someone to stay for. Enough for someone to love and cherish, but I’ve been burned every time.Except at my job.I thrive there. In my office, I have the ability to fix things and command situations.Until my new client walks in.It shouldn’t matter that he fills out a suit better than any man I’ve … fills out a suit better than any man I’ve ever seen. His dimples and blue-green eyes shouldn’t call to me on every level. I know men like him and they’re dangerous to trust.
But Jackson Cole is irresistible.
The pain of the past disappears when he’s around. With him, I’m more than enough, and I break every rule about dating a client.
I fall desperately in love with him—only to realize I should’ve trusted my instincts because I’m no one’s beloved …

Brilliant writing – an original topic and handling of the story of a former slave, the trauma she carried with her (along with a daughter) and how they built their lives in Cincinnati.
Loved this book – the topic of an escaped slave, the trauma she carried with her and the life she would live I found riveting. I would not say this is an easy read – but it is so very well written.
I struggle to put into words what I feel about this book. There are so many layers of unfolding and unpacking trauma. It’s twisted. It’s makes you think and then think again. It paints a picture and tears it down to reveal another picture. Beloved is like the past in all of us that we repress and hold down, the obsess over until we are addicted …
A book that I will never forget.
Always loved all of Tony Morrison books!
Beautiful storytelling.
Classic Toni Morrison!
Life changing.
This is magical realism at its best. Based very loosely on a true incident, it tells the story of a formerly enslaved woman who escaped along with her children. When the slave catchers found her, she was determined to kill herself and her children, rather than go back to slavery. What happens next is magical. The child she killed. Did she …
The first time I read this book, I was about 15 years old, it was assigned reading in high school, and completely unprepared for the haunting emotions in the book. I remember putting it down and being horrified. As an adult, I’m still greatly moved, but I can see the mother’s motivation for her actions more clearly now in a way a 15-year-old …
A classic!
The haunting fear for her child. She prefers to be killed than to live out her life in slavery
Did not like this book
There’s a reason everyone raves about Toni Morrison. The language in this is jaw-droppingly beautiful. The story is timeless and unforgettable. Can’t believe it took me so long to read it.
I love a book that gives a lesson in the guise of storytelling. To me, that’s when the greatest learning occurs. This is a story about American slavery, the loss of a child, overcoming. And how we’re never free until WE set ourselves free. Morrison does it again!

One of the best books ever. I have never felt more scared…I read this book by torchlight under the duvet and couldn’t put it down. So so powerful!
This is the first book by Toni Morrison I’ve read, with the trigger being her recent sad passing. She was an author I’d always meant to read but had never got round to it.
I really enjoyed Beloved. The main thing that struck me was the quality of the writing – kind of knotty and dense and somehow therefore very alive. Often quite cryptic too – you …
This one was hard for me to rate. I really enjoyed the story and appreciated learning more about the various experiences of slaves—not always easy to read, but I believe important to know. However the way the story was told ruined it for me and kept pulling me out of the story. I’d be reading and suddenly have to stop, reread a paragraph or two …
When I enrolled into my contemporary literature class, I couldn’t fathom what kinds of novels my instructor planned to toss at us. I remember staring at the reading list with more than a little trepidation, and when my eyes glanced over Toni Morrison’s Beloved, I groaned. The red background with the flowing gold script screamed romance to me. When …
One of our best ever.
