Is fifteen years too long to wait to ask for forgiveness? To ask for a second chance?Jason left his hometown of Belkin fifteen years ago and has never returned. But he’s never forgotten Shaun or their time together. If he goes back, will Shaun want to speak to him? How can Jason convince him that the man he’s become isn’t as afraid as the boy he was? That he can be trusted and that this time – he … that this time – he won’t run?
A stand alone novella about love and second chances.

I wanted to read this book because I love the author’s other books. She has never disappointed. I was a little worried though that I would have a bias against Jason, one of the main characters. That being said I was surprised that as I read I could understand that he was scared and suffered from his decision too. So he bacame easy to root for. I absolutely loved Shaun. What an amazingly strong and wonderful guy. He deserves a very happy ending. This book just kept pulling out emotional whammies one right after the other. I can’t decide if it was Shaun’s tattoo, his print 3 of the original cover poster, or Jason’s dedication or folded drawing, that got me the most. I honestly kept thinking as I was reading, “crap, now I’m crying again.” I loved this story and this family and I hope the author decides to write about them again in the future.

I feel a bit tearful having just finished reading this bittersweet story. Two boys, Shaun and Jason, connecting during their summer after high school graduation and then, abruptly, their happiness crushed. Their romance in an atmosphere of secrecy and fear of discovery, is joyful and, yes, steamy, at the height of a halycon summer. I can’t say that Jason is my favorite character or that his reasoning for his behavior is logical or justified, but I can identify the character who won my heart. This story soars with the inclusion of Shaun’s innocent and loving brother Troy. Just lovely.
Author Angelique Jurd has won me to her fandom with her touching portrayals of secondary characters, like Troy here and family and friends to her main gay couple protagonists. Troy ranks right up there with Ally and Lulu Bug from her San Capistrano series. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Oh my goodness I fell in love with Jason and Shaun. Once again Angelique has written characters who come to life on the page. The descriptions make everything so vivid, that you truly get sucked in.
I loved this book so much, despite the fact that it made me cry in a couple of places. Big, fat tears. I didn’t mind these, despite them being sad, not happy, tears. When you read close to 400 books a year, it is nice to have a reminder that you haven’t become jaded.
This is a book of 2 halves, with 15 years in between. Shaun and Troy portray sibling love so beautifully. Shaun is mature beyond his years from having Troy in his life. While Jason appears to be mature and confident, he is actually anything but. Cue the first tears.
While the first part is told from Shaun’s POV and is a snapshot of a week in his life, the second is from Jason’s. Most of what has happened in Shaun’s life in the intervening years is related to Jason by Shaun and therefore seems more poignant. Cue more tears.
You know going in that a second chance romance is likely to have angst. It makes their HEA that much better.
This is a well written second chance romance between Shaun and Jason. It’s a heartfelt story of young love , separation and finding each other again. The author does a great job building the story, telling it in the dual POV showing both their thoughts and emotions and dealing with the fear of coming out. She also does a beautiful job with Shaun’s special needs brother Troy. I could feel the love and affection they have for one another coming through the pages. It’s an emotional story with a bit of sadness along with the love and happiness. A beautiful story I would recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
