Finding each other again after many years. Young love and a second chance to have it all. Great characters with those from the previous books in the series this one is part of.

My review :
Will a lady having given up the idea of love believe it might wait for her in the corner …
As I have read any of the other books in this series, it was by checking the previous stories that I learned a bit about the gambling den and the women behind it.
It was rather strange and exhilarating to see them, even if it was just a glimpse, act like men.
Still I do think Brooke has a serious problem with alcohol as she numbs herself when she wants to avoid thinking.
I am not sure I liked her, she was running away from her emotions, then I understood she reacted like most men in romance novels do.
From there, I enjoyed my read.
Brooke has dreams and hopes but everything was crushed by parents indifference and Drake’s broken promise. No one ever showed her she mattered, not even the boy she fancied her in love ten years earlier.
So I came to see her point of view, still refusing to confront their past, the present and running away was the coward road.
Drake never forgot his childhood love, but he made a big mistake by assuming she would wait for him demurely next a potted plant. He should have maintain contact, not let her wait in the dark.
So when they meet again, he is so very sure everything will be like before, but ten years it is a very long time, and people change, and if pain won over happiness they may see life from a different color.
Brooke and Drake are flawed characters, assuming instead of looking for answers, and by letting things unsaid they put salt on not closed wounds instead of healing them.
4 stars for this second chance tale.
I received a free copy by the author, and here is my true and unbiased opinion.

So Much Wrong Here
The description of this book didn’t quite add up to what the novella was actually about. Things stated in the description never really happened, and much of the blurb seemed to be about the couple’s history, not about what takes place in this book. As is typical, unfortunately, in a novella, this book had a bit of a data dump in the beginning, which I always dislike. I could never quite get a sense of the characters. The heroine just didn’t act like what I think of Regency heroine should act like, prone to drinking hard liquor and jumping into sexual acts without much provocation or forethought. And then she acted all weird about it as if she hadn’t been in love with him since they were teenagers. Frankly, she made no sense to me whatsoever. If you check out the Look Inside at Amazon, you’ll note that the first 10% barely gets you past the prologue; that’s how short this book is. As such, there wasn’t much room for any actual character development; though, worse, it didn’t even allow for character consistency—let alone growth. I cannot recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Ms. Mariel has an amazing talent for storytelling. This is such a sweet, heartwarming romance. Brooke and Drake have been best friends since their teenage years. When Brooke was sent off to boarding school, Drake told her he would come for her, but he never did. Brooke has always adored him, and when they meet again in London 10 years later, all those feelings start to surface again. When she finds out he’s looking for a wife, she misunderstands and thinks he wants to find someone else. This is a sweet story of childhood friends finding their way back to each other and a second chance at love. Wonderful storyline and well defined characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read another by Ms. Mariel!

This book did not disappoint!
Loved the cover the lady has such a sassy look to her. Seeing an old friend after 10 you know the one you were going to travel the world with well that is what happens to our main characters. There are a lot of misunderstandings and Brook needs to try and learn to trust again, but this was a sweet love story about an unconventional lady and the man who always knew Brook would be his bride. A highly entertaining read! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Book five in the Scandal Meets Love series a well written short story of a second chance. Lady Brooke Linwood and Drake Kingston, The Marquess of Grafton meet when she came to live with her grandparents home when she was fourteen and he was fifteen. She is to go away to finishing school at Mrs. Emmeline’s School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality in Canterbury after that Summer. They meet again yeas later. I enjoyed reading how they come back together and get their happy ending. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
As teens Drake and Brooke shared a summer friendship with dreams of more when they grew up. But they didn’t see each other again for ten years. I thought she was too quick to push him away and dismiss that he might be interested in her when they meet again. She kept running and making her own assumptions about his feelings even after he explained why he didn’t contact her sooner. This novella does follow others in a series and catches up on the lives of the characters in those books, but it’s not necessary to read them to understand.
I liked the premise of the story but unfortunately, Brooke sort of ruined it for me by being too quick to assume that Drake no longer had any intention of fulfilling his promise to her simply because he had not come back to London for the ten years in between. She never lets him explain why he had not come for her and believes he no longer wants her, so she immediately decides that she will find a suitable wife for him even though he keeps trying to tell her that he was now able to finally afford to care for her after restoring the family fortune which his now-deceased father had squandered. Drake was wonderful but Brooke had some trust issues she needed to work on.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Regency romance with great character, romance and intrigue. When she was 14 her parents left her with relatives, and they always did. She and the 15 year old future duke became best friends. She had to go off to boarding school and he told her he would come for her in the future. In the meantime she met new friends and started racing horses and gambling. She believed he was not going to come for her. Ten years later they bumped into each other in London. He was looking for her and a wife. She thought he wanted to marry someone else and when he asked her to marry him after she seduced him, she thought it was only because of the sex and turned him down. He asked her several other times and she turned him down and then ran away to relatives. He finally hunted her down and they finally got their HEA I highly recommend this story to lovers of this genre.

A sweet story of childhood friends and a second chance to love. At fourteen and fifteen Brooke received her first kiss from Drake. When they both went off to school Drake promised to come back for her. Ten years later Brook still unmarried turn into an unconventional lady who drank, gambled and had two of the best friends one could ask for. She was still free spirited and loved to race horses. Drake had inherited a mess of a dukedom where he could hardly support himself let alone a wife. When things finally were looking up and settled, he went to London in search of his bride Brooke. This is a quick read. Too short for anything of substance to occur. But overall a sweet story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Childhood friends that meet again ten years later. Brooke had always looked forward to seeing Drake in the summer. She was ignored by her family but she always knew her time with him would be special. Now a Duke, she runs into him literally in London and those old feelings come back. But he was looking for a wife and knew she was not the one for him. But the heart wants what the heart wants and who knows what may happen? Will her long ago friend truly care for her? A romantic story that warms the heart!! Enjoy anything by this author, she is an auto read for me!!
