Being Me is the second sensual adventure in New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones’s “totally swoon worthy” and “absolutely enthralling” (Under the Covers) Inside Out series. Chris and Sara’s story continues in BEING ME. Both characters fight their own battles in the second installment of this series but I just feel like something is missing. The story held my attention as did the first book but I feel like there’s something I’m not connecting with that would allow me to rate this one higher. I’m still intrigued and want to know what’s next for this couple.
Audiobook: Narrator – Grace Grant
Another enjoyable audio by Ms. Grant. She really does a nice job of these characters. This being the second book of the series that she’s narrated as well as back to back listens, I’ve come to attach her voice to Sara. Accented voice of Ricco was a little rough but otherwise I didn’t have any issues with her performance.
Things really get deep and heavy both between Sara and Chris as well as the mystery of Rebecca.
As this couple grow closer and begin to delve deeper into their pasts they begin to work together to find out what happened to Rebecca. Along the way, Sara begins to fear for her friend Ella as well and this adds additional suspense to the story. She also finds Chris dealing with heartache in way that almost breaks her. It causes some additional angst as well as an insight into how deeply tormented he really is. I would have liked her to have made him grovel more but I can’t say their making up wasn’t super hot.
This ends in another cliffhanger but holy heck, it’s got me needy for what the future holds. With a great pace and the addition of secondary characters that will have you second guessing who could be behind Rebecca’s journal, this is an amazing read/listen.
Once again the book opens with one of Rebecca’s journal entries. I was prepared this time and did not freak out. Then we continue exactly where “If I Were You” ended.
I swear I almost had an anxiety attack with Sara as she deals with the darkness we had left her in. Once out she gets a call from Chris and one of my favorite conversations in this book ensues.
This leads us into more complications and revelations that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The animosity between Mark and Chris, Sara’s insistence on being her own person and the realization that Ella may be missing as well keeps the tension high.
We discover the darkest secrets of Chris and Sara in this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of all of this and love that Chris hires Walker Security to protect Sara and investigate Rebecca’s disappearance. Fellow readers will recognize this company from Lisa’s Tall, Dark, and Deadly series.
Where is Rebecca? Where is Ella? Can Sara and Chris make their relationship work? Some answers are revealed others not yet.
I still don’t have adequate words for all the feelings that ran through me as I read this book. I laughed, I cried, I panted and held my breath. Yet another suspenseful, steamy, gripping novel.
Sara and Chris’s relationship continues to grow. He knows about the journal’s and hires the Walker Brother’s to help find Rebecca. Mark continues to be his stern self. Sara becomes friends with Ava, the owner of the coffee shop. Sara also begins to get a glimpse into Chris’s world when she goes with him to a fund raiser at the children’s hospital and meets a Dylan, a boy with cancer that Chris has become very attached.
Word comes that Dylan isn’t responding to meds as the doctors had hoped. They know his time is limited. Sara absolutely loves how Chris gives of himself to help others. What she can’t foresee, why Chris has repeatedly tried to warn her away from him, is the melt down that will be Chris.
Mark is there to make sure she sees fully what/ who is Chris Merrit when it happens. Will this be what completely destroys them both as a couple and individually
