From New York Times bestselling author, Emma Hart, comes a brand new standalone novel. BEING BROOKE is a laugh-out-loud, witty, and sometimes highly inappropriate romantic comedy about being in love with your best friend. And how much that freaking sucks. My name is Brooke Barker… And I’m a freaking disaster. No, seriously. I’m a college drop-out working a dead-end job, my best friend Carly’s dog … friend Carly’s dog gets more action than I do, and I have more bad dates in my diary than there are movie remakes.
Not to mention I’m completely and utterly in love with Cain Elliott.
The problem? He’s in a relationship. With a girl who’s so plastic she makes Barbie cry herself to sleep with jealousy.
The second problem? He’s my best friend.
My shut-up-and-put-on-Harry-Potter, yes-this-is-your-shirt, help-I-have-no-power, crap-I’m-out-of-tampons, kinda best friend.
And that’s all he can be, right?
Right.

Emma Hart does it again. From the first page I was hooked. I laughed, I swooned, and I laughed some more. BEING BROOKE is a heartwarming, hilarious book that will stay with you long after you’ve read the last page.
BEING BROOKE is classic Emma Hart. Wit, humor, and a whole lot of snark and sass!
Hold the freakin’ phone!!!!!!!!
“You’re so fucking random. Brooke. Seriously.
“Yeah, well, I don’t speak grumpy. I speak fluent sarcasm, bitch, and PMS.”
OMG!!! Oh god! I’m in pain! This is what I get for reading a book at the dead of the night when everyone is asleep. My sides hurt from all that restrained laughing. It was HILARIOUS!
Honestly, the female protagonist is me when it comes to the sarcasm department but otherwise, I’m pretty sure Emma Hart just put herself in a book and gave her a different name.
90% Emma + 10% me = Brooke Barker
Laugh out loud’s, witty comebacks, sarcastic remarks, Being Brooke is the purest form of Romantic Comedy.
Told from Brooke’s point of view and, life tips at the beginning of every chapter, which in all honesty my favourite part of the book, this book was utterly entertaining
“Restraint isn’t a skill I’ve ever learned—unless you count the fact I’ve made it just over twenty-four years and haven’t been arrested for murder. With my temperament, that’s worth celebrating. That’s why I have birthday parties—to celebrate making it through another twelve months of dealing with assholes and not killing any of them.”
Hot Sex? Zero.
Sexual tension? Nada.
Angst? Zilch.
Laugh-Out-Loud? Oh yes!
Sarcasm? Hell yeah!
Sass? Out of this world!!!
So if you are thinking you are going to get any hot monkey sex between Cain and Brooke, like it is usually the case in any Emma Hart book, you are in the wrong place. But if you want to read a book that will literally have you rolling with laughter, tears in your eyes and possibly hurting sides. Don’t think! Just pick it up and get ready to laugh your ass off!
4 Stars!
Good book
A fun read. Not as funny a i hoped but entertaining. The ending was fabulous. The best, most romantic one I have read in quite some time.
Wtf? How is this my first Emma Hart book!? I am so mad at myself. My blog partner Kara loves her and now I know why. Yay!! I I think I was waiting for the start of a new series or a standalone and this was it! Being Brooke is a standalone novel but I am so hoping that it turns into a series.
Ten years. It’s been ten years since Cain walked into Brooke’s life and became one of her best friends. It was also around that time that she fell in love with him. Sure, she was only fourteen at the time and by now she should have gotten over it but it has only gotten worse. Especially when he walks out the shower with just a towel around his waist and water dripping down his lips. Lips she wants to kiss attached to a body she wants to lick. But she can’t. For one, he is her best friend and not only a best friend but one that knows her better than she knows herself. One that knows how crazy she is and sticks around. And two, he has a girlfriend. And even worse she is a prissy princess, the exact opposite of her. There is no way she can compete with that and if she wanted to, she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. Then shit…who would put her crappy IKEA furniture together for her? God knows her other best friend Carly can’t do it. But what if Cain is exactly who she is supposed to be with?
I don’t want to get too much into the storyline so I will keep it at that. But I want to talk about the characters. I fucking loved them. All of them. Brooke is a bitchy hot mess with needy tendencies. But, I love her because she owns it. She doesn’t hide it. She won’t talk behind your back. She will say it to your face. And with wit. She is my kind of crazy. In moderation. Lol. Carly is blunt and will tell you how it is. Cain is an asshole in the best of ways. Sarcastic, protective, and hot. He really is a perfect match for Brooke and Carly. He can deal with their chaos. The moms were surprising. And Brooke’s Grandpa is well…inappropriate. I loved him. Great with balloons. Then there is Zeke, Cain’s older brother. I want him in a book like now.
I loved this book because it was about the best kind of friendships. The ones where you can call each other at any time of the day and you know the other will be there. With cold pizza and wine. You can talk about anything and everyone without judgement. You can call each other a bitch and know it’s all in fun. There is support, bitchiness, sarcasm, and love. And of course one friend secretly in love with another. Let the inappropriate and crazy fun begin…
Overall…This book was exactly what I needed. It was hilarious, flirty, and crazy. I laughed so hard. I got frustrated. But I also felt the love. I also liked that it wasn’t just about Brooke’s love life but it was about her whole life.
P.S. I that Brooke can’t cook but she loves to bake! I can relate.
Quotes:
“You’ve never been friendly with his girlfriends. You never will be.”
“It’s not my fault he picks hookers and assholes.”
“Brooke Barker! Must you be so crude?” I grin at the blatant horror in her voice.
“You taught me to always be honest, Mother. This is really on you.”
“You know you’re supposed to Netflix and chill with another person, right? Not by yourself.”
“Who said I’d be by myself?”
“Battery friends don’t count.”
“Seriously. Who let me adult? My fairy godmother needs firing.”
I decided for a re-read. This was the perfect cure for my bookover! Just as funny the second time! Brooke is sarcastic, sassy, a mess everywhere but when baking, and absolutely wonderful! And Cain is a dream!
Being Brooke by Emma Hart is phenomenal!!
This novel is different from anything Emma has written before, however, at the same time it is still so Emma! Throughout the novel, you get the hilarious and sarcastic moments that will have you killing yourself laughing. You will get the heart wrenching and heartwarming moments that will have you oohing and ahhing.
Brooke and Cain were written beautifully. They had so many different dynamics and personalities to write about, and Emma wrote it flawlessly.
I loved every single detail of this book. I cannot wait to read even more books from Emma in the future. This book is a must read that everyone should be picking up today!
5/5 Stars!
I absolutely loved reading this book! I laughed so much and really could identify with Brooke. The story felt familiar to me personally and I think at some point anyone can relate to Brooke.
Emma did a really great job with this book and delivered another great story to enjoy. Very much worth the read and definitely a 5 star read for me!
Brooke has been in love with her best friend Cain ever since he walked into her life years ago. She hates his girlfriend with a passion but doesn’t let that interfere with their relationship. They have a very strong bond no matter what. Even though she has to try and take a step back, it’s not easy to put her feelings aside. But with Carly on her side, she tries to take it one step at a time and find out what she really wants out of life… Will she finally have the courage to tell Cain how she really feels ? Or will they only remain best friends ? Find out in this heartwarming romance story about two friends turning into lovers… or not ? A story that will leave you wanting more…
I like the fact that the book had characters from the Beautiful Disaster series.
This book was super fun, hilarious and full of romance.
A little too sarcastic for my taste…but overall a good story.
The characters in this story are in their mid twenties and so immature, and this type of book usually isn’t my thing. However, there were so many laugh out loud moments for me that I had to give it four stars. It’s a small town we’re friends and family have their noses in each other’s business, and nothing is really sacred. Throughout the story you are stuck in Brooke’s crazy mind and nonstop inner monologue, and sometimes the whiny behavior and antics gets to be too much. While the story is sweet, I wish the steam factor would have been much much higher.
There are a few inconsistencies that really bugged me. Also the story takes place in Georgia and the author is British, so let’s just say the author did not do a good job with appropriate terms, phrases, and vernacular. A lot more research was need from that standpoint. With all that said, I still really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down.
I am giving this book a 4.5 . Let me start by saying I want to be best friends with Brooke , not only is she hilarious but she is such a hot mess I wouldn’t look so bad next to her . Just kidding .
Brooke is a 24 year old girl who is trying to adult on her own for the first time , it is not going so well . Cain is the best friends with Carly and Brooke . Brooke has been in love with CAin for years but he doesn’t know it .
This book will have you laughing , crying , then laughing so hard you cry . Brooke is seriously a hot mess . I just love her so much , I want more from her . I read this book in one sitting it had me hooked from the begging . you can not go wrong with this book
This was a great book just wish there was an epilogue.
I laughed out loud a lot during this book. Really cute story.
