From New York Times bestselling author, Emma Hart, comes a brand new standalone novel. BEING BROOKE is a laugh-out-loud, witty, and sometimes highly inappropriate romantic comedy about being in love with your best friend. And how much that freaking sucks. My name is Brooke Barker… And I’m a freaking disaster. No, seriously. I’m a college drop-out working a dead-end job, my best friend Carly’s dog … friend Carly’s dog gets more action than I do, and I have more bad dates in my diary than there are movie remakes.
Not to mention I’m completely and utterly in love with Cain Elliott.
The problem? He’s in a relationship. With a girl who’s so plastic she makes Barbie cry herself to sleep with jealousy.
The second problem? He’s my best friend.
My shut-up-and-put-on-Harry-Potter, yes-this-is-your-shirt, help-I-have-no-power, crap-I’m-out-of-tampons, kinda best friend.
And that’s all he can be, right?
Right.

A funny love story about two best friends, Cain and Brooke. Brooke is a hot mess but everybody knows it. She is been in love with Cain forever but he has a girlfriend. Can they have a chance a s a couple? You will laugh with them in their journey to be together.
This is my first book by this author. Unfortunately it really didn’t do a whole lot for me. I skimmed some and I really didn’t love the characters. I’m hovering in the “meh” area. I do have 3 other books on my tbr from her so I’m going to give them a shot and hopefully those will work out better for me.
This will be the second Emma Hart book I’ve read in as many days. OK, I’m gonna get a little picky here, Ms Hart. Please tell me what color Cain’s eyes are. On page 7, at the top, you recorded that the “water made his dark blue eyes seem like gems”, but further down the page when Cain is sitting on the couch his eyes are “captivating green.” I know it may be knit-picky, but it’s the little things, right? I haven’t been able to get into this book as easily as I did Miss Fix-It. Being Brooke was written earlier and it seems Ms Hart hadn’t hit her stride yet. There are glimpses of the wit and humor, but it just doesn’t move as well as Miss Fix-It.
DNF a little more than halfway through. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I rarely DNF a book, it’s an OCD thing. However, I just. Couldn’t. Do It!!! Remember those “glimpses” of wit/humor I mentioned? They continued as glimpses. Nothing more. The characters were flat. Worse than that, they were immature mid-twenty somethings who continued to enable one another. Brooke was the worst. I felt like I was reading the same thing page after page. It was a continuous loop of immaturity, excuses, and middle school type problems. I became so bored, because I knew that what I was reading I’d basically read a couple pages prior, that I started skimming. All that did was to allow me to put more pages in before DNF-ing the book. I certainly didn’t miss anything.
Don’t let this review stop you from reading an Emma Hart book. Just let it stop you from reading THIS Emma Hart book. Save yourself some time and frustration.
Cain really does have Brooke and Carly down pact, “no, eff no. If you and Carly try to build a dresser, you’ll create a portal to another world or something. Or you’ll just break it and call me anyway.” I swear these people enjoy torturing each other, “what do you want me to say, B? I can’t control where the blood in my body goes when I’m sleep. I’m sorry my morning erection alarmed you, but it’s no scarier than your cooking.” Brooke and Cain are very honest people, so honest that they’re blunt, “slowly, he nods, looking me dead in the eye. “I’m male, B. And you’re hot. You mention efffest and I start thinking with this.” He points to his ***k.” I loved this book so much.
Hilarious friendship, friends to lovers story. 5 stars for rom-com story, 3 stars for editing issues that distracted.
I liked the book, but Brooke was a bit too sassy. I like the heroins sassy, but she was a bit too much. I did laugh out loud at quite a few passages, and some I am going to be using while talking to friends myself. Overall the characters were good and the book entertaining.
Very funny and a good read!
The story line was entertaining. I don’t particularly enjoy’teaser’ books, but this one wasn’t too bad. For a potty mouth Brook did not put out. Grandpa wasa hoot.
I enjoyed the tone and humor of the writer, but wish the characters or plot had been a bit deeper. It was a fun, easy read.
I wouldn’t say this was the worst book I’ve read because I did finish it. I kept hoping it would become ‘funny and humorous’ like the book stated. It didn’t. There was so much bad language (at least 5-6 times on each page). That, with the editing issues, I just couldn’t get past it. The characters were immature, they acted like they were 15 just realizing they can use bad language around their friends and get away with it. I had ordered Carly’s book at the same time. I don’t like to waste money so I started reading that one. I couldn’t get past chapter three.
I don’t think this is one of Emma’s better books. Brooke was more of an airhead without being a blonde. There was a lot of funny parts to it but I can’t say much more than that.
