Zahak the former Daemon Prince of Sheol is obsessed with a human woman he is not supposed to have but just can’t let go. He is the lesser of two evils but evil nonetheless. Ashamed of what he is, Zahak hides behind a skull mask and centuries of walls he erected to hide from his own truth. After all, who could love a monster like him? Certainly not a Beauty named Petra
Behind the Veil: Beauty and the Daemon by LaSasha Flame is a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am so hooked on now so bad I can not wait to read the rest of this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about erotic and paranormal romance.

This was an interesting take on Beauty and the Beast. I quite enjoyed the story, the plot, the main characters; however the number of side characters got to be quite lengthy and hard to keep straight. Or it seemed they were brought on and then never brought back to the story, such as the coffee shop owner. The aspect of the beast side of the story was a great take on a well loved fairy tale of mine. I did enjoy this work but I did get a little confused at times with all the characters.
I give this a four out of five stars. The plot and characters were great and showed growth. I just got confused on the side characters and some parts of the story.

A beauty and former daemon prince find their love despite all odds. I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.
This is supposed to be a retelling of Beauty and The Beast and to be honest I lost interest in the story pretty quickly and for me this was closer to a 2.5 star read. I was trying to understand how old Petra and Zahak were, they both acted very immature and the fact that they hung out in a Community Center made me think 18-19 y/o. Zahak is an immortal and is several centuries old and I expected more from him given who and what he was.
Was uncertain as to what Petra actually did, as she seemed to spend a lot of her time at the Community Center. While she said she liked her fiancé Michael, for more than just his money, there was nothing in the writing to suggest these two had a real relationship. I must thank the author for not having Michael be a cheater on those business trips.
Zahak and his friends hung out at the Community Center everyday and that’s where he and Petra meet. There was a lot of hot and cold between these two, their relationship was one where they would be hot and heavy one minute and the next minute screaming why would you say that or do that you don’t love me, get away from me and a few minutes later they would be making out in the corner. The immaturity and their over reactions just got old after a while.
The author wrote a lot about them reacting sexually to each other, I however did not feel much chemistry…while the words and their physical reactions said one thing for me it felt very mechanical and forced. Petra seemed to be like a pinball pinging off of any guy that was giving her attention at the time, all while saying she mustn’t because she was engaged.
Zahak’s parents were just very vile and evil power hungry nasty people and I could understand why he would want to distance himself from them. Petra’s parents were the typical you must get married and have babies or you have no value parents, they seemed a bit on the shallow side.
For me the parts I enjoyed were mostly about the other immortals that Zahak hung out with, they provided some levity and a bit more depth to Zahak. The other immortals and their interactions provided a nice sense of camaraderie that added a much-needed social dimension away from all of the I’m so hot for this person jargon.
This story retelling may appeal to others for me this was a miss.

Every time I read a new book by this author, I enjoy it more and more! The world created in this story is fantastic! At first I thought it was going to be a retelling of a beauty and the beast tale, but it goes further than that. A new world is created based on many mythical beings coming together to form a ”family” of their own with their own pasts. I was surprised and excited to read how other tales are going to be intertwined with characters from this story! I can’t wait to pick up the next book!

this was a great take on a beauty and the beast style romance story and i enjoyed reading it, i hope there is more like this
Zahac feels out of place in his demon family. We meet him when his father is presenting him with a nymph to do with as he likes, but he does not want to be cruel and is forced to kill her, so she does not get raped repeatedly by his father. He and his friends flee to the human world to relax and there he meets his mate, a human, who is almost purely good. She shows him that he does not need to follow in his father’s footsteps.
A slightly weird re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. I could not really warm up to the characters in the book, nor did I really get into the story.
For that reason I give this book a 3.5 star rating

Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, lust and passion, strength happiness and love. The story of sensational feelings that can run through the body while reading. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.
