Cliff and Alexis had met once but knew the chemistry was off the chain. When they met again in not the best circumstances the chemistry was still there but she was hurting and he was her knight in shining armor. He protected her something fierce but the danger she was in almost ended his life. But they both fought and recovered. It wasn’t easy but Alexis sacrificed everything to be with Cliff and it was a beautiful ending.
I don’t read much of romantic suspense books but this has enough intrigue and action to it that I read it in one sitting.
The connection between our MC’s was super strong. They barely know each other but they still couldn’t forget about each other. And when danger comes knocking at the door both b>Alexis and Cliff wanted nothing more than to eliminate the threat. As is expected things don’t go smoothly but at the end the good guys win…or do they?!
After finishing this story I’m left with a few questions but I’m certain that they will be answered as this series continues. And now I’m on to book 2 for which I’m certain it will be just as action packed as this one.

Welcome back to Carson! Renee Harless is bringing us back to Carson NC to spend some time with old friends and introducing us to some new ones.
Cliff met Alexis a few years ago and in that moment he was hooked, but unfortunately it just wasn’t their time. After a chain of events that only Renee could write, Alexis finds herself needing help and protection and Cliff is more than ready for the challenge.
This is a face paced, suspenseful story that will keep you at the edge of your seat, flipping pages so fast and being unable to put the book down. This is the first in this new series and I’m ready for the ride. Do not miss out on this one!
I absolutely loved this book! I was hooked from the very first page until the last. It’s an action packed, filled with suspense, love, romance, and the characters are amazing. It’s a definite page turning read that I thoroughly enjoyed and I can’t wait for book two.
Behind the Lens was my first Renee Harless read. I enjoyed visiting the town of Carson North Carolina. It is a close-knit community filled with power-players who have come to live a quiet life in between their action-packed adventures. The “family” aspect of this book is quite heartwarming. The action and suspense are thrilling and captivating.
The fast-moving pace of the story kept it interesting. The romance between two battle-scarred, military-affiliated warriors is quick, hot, and very sweet. Cliff and Alexis have both had tough pasts. There is a strong attraction that bonds them almost instantly when they first meet two years prior to the present setting of this story. It is an attraction that reignites as soon as they meet again. The way they help each other overcome the heartbreak from their pasts is absolutely the stuff romance is made of.
I liked the premise and the telling of this story where everything is larger than life. I adored the characters and the attachments they formed with each other. The history the people of Carson have together is beautiful. The way they have each others’ backs is enviable and unbreakable.
I will read the next installment of this series because Ms. Harless left easter eggs that I am sure will be found in future stories. There are also glimpses of new characters who I cannot wait to know better in the next books.
This book, oh man. Right from the beginning I was hooked. You think you’re reading one thing but find out you’re reading about something slightly different. This is defiant an Alpha book, but in the best ways. “Ex”-military needing to protect FBI; there was never going to be an easy path. There’s stubbornness, passion, and amazing strength. The reader isn’t given any choice other than to fall in love with the story!
“ You both are worthy of more than you’ve been given in this life, don’t give up on it yet. Fight.”
I absolutely loved this book. It was amazing filled with love, romance, second chances and suspense. This story had me completely owned by it from page one until done. Alexis has had an incredibly hard life, one made very dangerous thanks to her father. She has zero trust for anyone thanks to him but she still vows to keep on going forward in life giving everything she has to her job in the FBI. She has the chance to vaguely meet Cliff two years prior to seeing him again. Cliff was instantly infatuated with Alexis and declares if he ever has the chance to be with her again, he won’t let her slip by.
When Alexis and her team are ambushed and she ends up in his hometown in need of medical help and protection, Cliff knows instantly this is his second chance and he is not letting her go this time without a fight. But when circumstance prevent him from saving her from her father how will Cliff forgive himself and will he be able to get to Alexis before she is harmed by a very dangerous man who hasn’t given her a moment’s thought since she was a child?
Cliff is a man who likes to keep to himself. Alexis is the one person who he is drawn to. When Alexis needs help, Cliff is only too happy to jump in and protect her. Can these two make a relationship work in these circumstances? Can Cliff protect Alexis from the evil that is coming for her?
This book was everything. A reminder of how wonderful it would be to be a part of Carson and how everyone rallies in times of need. Loved it,it!! A fantastic story!!
We have meet Cliff and Alexis in other books but have always wondered who their partner was. One would never expect for them to wind up together. There is something about the way that all of the men of Carson have a need to protect those they love. When Alexis father comes after her, Cliff does anything and everything to protect her. I am so excited that we get to see more of this world. Not to mention more characters. Who is the owner of the new bar…..
Behind the Lens is the first book in the Home in Carson series, a spin off of her Welcome to Carson series where we first met Alexis and Cliff. Their chemistry was instantaneous but they could not explore their attraction as Alexis had her job with the FBI to do. Fast forward a couple of years and one finds Alexis back in Carson, but she’s in trouble and Cliff will do anything to protect her. This book is an entertaining, page turner with wonderful characters that will keep your interest (I read it in one sitting). It was like returning to your home town with cameos from the Carson family, which did not take away from Alexis and Cliff’s story, but enhanced it. I can’t wait to see which character she writes about next.
What a great spin off Cliff was everything a male lead should be and Alexis was just as great, they were obviously meant to be together. I was kept entertained and enthralled throughout and loved catching up with the original Carson crew, loved it!!
Behind the Lens is book 1 in a new series -Home in Carson.
I really enjoyed this book. It had action and romance!
The main characters are Cliff and Alexis.
Cliff was in the Army and takes really good pictures.
Alexis gets injured and Cliff cares for her.
They both want Carson to be home.
Alexis came from a terrible father in the cartel and what she went thru as a child makes her a strong person.
“You’re going to rest up and get ready for the biggest fight of your life.”
It does have a hea.
I recommend this book to others.
“I looked you up after the first time Dylan teamed us up together. There wasn’t much in your file, as you know, but I was curious none-the-less.”
“Why did you look me up?”
“I wanted to make sure that you were real.”
Oh, how I have missed Carson, NC!! It’s so good to be back!!
Cliff mostly keeps to himself. Head down, grunts and one-word answers his only communication effort, and only a select few given access to any more than that. He keeps himself occupied with his tattoo shop, Carson Ink, and keeping tabs on her. Alexis. Ever since she left, he hasn’t stopped thinking about her. He knows, he’s no good for her. He’s carrying to much darkness, but she’s making him feel again. But, now she’s in trouble. Big trouble, and she’s back in Carson. No doubt the town will rally around her, but will it be enough? As danger closes in, can Cliff keep her safe, or will his past repeat itself?
Alexis had felt the connection to Cliff from the first time they met. But, she had to leave. She had no choice. Duty called. When her latest mission goes south and she’s put in the cross-hairs of one of the most ruthless men she’s known, and one she’s known all her life, she finds herself in trouble, injured, and near death. Was coming back to Carson the right thing to do, or is she just bring danger to its front door? Being this close to Cliff again has her hoping for a future she never thought she’d want, but its one she can never have. As long as she’s here, he’ll be in danger. She may not survive the man who is after her, or losing the man she loves.
I loved this story!! I’m so glad this author has returned to Carson NC! A whole other cast of characters, while catching up with the familiar ones we know and love. Cliff and Alexis are perfect together!! I can’t wait for book two!!
A fantastic small town story. I haven’t read the Carson series (this will soon change) but I didn’t need to for this story at all. This was such a brilliant story, with an amazing storyline and characters. I just couldn’t get enough of it. I really enjoyed how the story unfolded and the twists that were in the story kept me on the edge of my seat. Su h a fantastic story, I hope we get more in this series.
Behind the Lens is a fast paced romantic suspense where the action starts right from the jump. Having never read any of the “Welcome to Carson” books I was a little worried that I would be lost in the characters in this new series starter, Behind the Lens. However that wasn’t an issue at all! Carson is a small town with large events and even larger people in it. The character building was great and the action was non-stop. I liked the twists and turns this novel took. While this is a series starter for the new Home in Carson series, this novel can be read as a stand alone. I believe that book 2 will focus on a different couple, which is my favorite type of series, interconnected character stand alones!
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 read
This was a very enjoyable romantic suspense story.
It was as if Cliff and Alexis were desrined to be together.
Although both were fighting their own personal demons from the past, they were willing to work through it together.
Great drama and suspense… with heaps of chemistry between the leads.
Awesome read
I was given an ARC but voluntarily chose to review
There’s always something happening in Carson. I enjoyed learning more about Cliff. He was one of those that was a little mysterious and now we find out why. I love that he’s experiencing happiness again as after a life full of hardships. I still want to know all of Mama Connelly’s secrets. I wonder if *she* isn’t a former spy? I love reading strong female characters, and Alexis is probably the strongest, but she still needs a home, safety, and a community to love her back. Welcome to Carson.
Welcome back to Carson! Cliff is a photographer/tattoo artist/ ex army ranger that may or may not still do contract work for the government. He opened his tattoo shop and settled in Carson, living his secret solitaire life. but always remembering the sassy take no prisoners FBI agent Alexis. She has quite the colorful background. Her father was never a father to her and her mother mysteriously disappeared. Alexis lived in foster and group homes for most of her life. one of her FBI missions leads her to an altercation with her father. She is taken to recover and hide out in Carson where she meets Cliff. This book is full of action and suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to revisiting Carson soon.
Behind the Lens is a great read. Cliff and Alexis story is great. Cliff is ex military and is now a tattoo artist and has fallen for someone but has no clue if she will feel the same. Alexis is hurt during a mission and is brought to Carson and Cliff decides he is going to take over caring for her and keeping her safe. Will this caring for her cause them to fall in love or will someone tear them apart? Renee Harless is a great writer she writes amazing stories and this one is no different. Make sure you one click and enjoy the ride.
