An Interview with Author Paul Knox
1. What got you started with the Reece Cannon Thriller Series?
I like mysteries, fast paces and unputdownable page turners. So I write what I can’t put down myself. Some of the best thrillers and mysteries have influenced my writing, like Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and the Renee Ballard Series by Michael Connelly.
2. How has the success of the Reece Cannon Thriller Series changed your writing career?
My career wouldn’t be what it is without my new readers, fans and new friends. Self-publishing has been a wonderful gift. I’m thankful far beyond words, and the success allows me to keep writing.
3. Behind Open Eyes embodies a twisty mystery and a gripping psychological thriller. What qualities do you look for in other books?
I look for inner conflict. Can I rip my eyes from the sentence I’m reading fast enough to get to the next? Eloquent passion on the one hand, yet the urgency to discover overwhelms. I like meaningful action and never-ending suspense, and try to write that into my work.
When I first began reading suspense, I found Teresa Driscoll for psychological thriller, and for whodunits and mysteries, it was Louise Penny. I still love those.
4. What are some of the expectations or themes that new readers can look for in Behind Open Eyes?
There are multiple point-of-views in this book, each with their own interesting take on the crime. It combines a psychological thriller with an intriguing puzzle that draws the reader into solving the mystery with Reece, if they can.
Also, Behind Open Eyes easily fits into book club recommendations or beach reads.

This is a great read. You’ll enjoy from start to finish.
Had to read the whole series very good murder mystery
I loved it
I really enjoyed this book. I read the first (short) book in the series and was hooked, and bought the second and third one at the same time! It does jump around from character to character, but that really gives you a sense of the overall storyline and it all comes together to make one suspenseful, enjoyable, and clever crime mystery! I like the main characters.
Meet Detective Reece Cannon in this new series (there is also a prequel available). She’s fairly new on the job, feisty, and will do what it takes to find justice for victims.
Cannon literally takes a header over the body of a young woman who appears to have been shot. What she discovers is an old family secret ….
Cannon has persistently put her past on a back-burner, but now rumors are threatening her new life.
And how does this all connect with the murdered woman? Has the killer put his eyes on Cannon? Is she the next targeted victim? Danger may be closer than she thinks ..and she needs to keep her eyes open.
This is a nicely paced murder mystery with an intriguing female lead detective. There are several twists and turns that keep the reader looking in this direction, then backtracking and looking in another direction. Some things are not what they seem. I look forward to seeing more of this detective and following her new adventures in her chosen profession.
As I live in the desert area of Arizona, I really enjoy seeing references to places I personal know …. brings credibility to the story.
NOTE: There is a cliffhanger … to be continued

Checkmate!!
This is the second book from the Reece Cannon Thriller series. I would recommend that you read the books in order although it’s not necessary but you learn more about who Reece is if you do.
This book was a great psychological thriller. I wasn’t sure who the murderer was and just when I thought it was one character, some new evidence or twist was thrown that had me questioning everything. As always Reece is smart detective who figures it out and comes to the rescue!!
If you enjoy mystery thrillers I highly recommend this series. I listened to the audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed it and hearing all the characters come to life as well.
This book didn’t hold my interest. The writing was stilted and way too many characters to track.
