Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes?
Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.
When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake, but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.
And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend. But she also just happens to be married to David. And if you think you know where this story is going, think again, because Behind Her Eyes is like no other book you’ve read before.
David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife. But then why is David so controlling? And why is Adele so scared of him?
As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But Louise can’t guess how wrong–and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.
In Behind Her Eyes, Sarah Pinborough has written a novel that takes the modern day love triangle and not only turns it on its head, but completely reinvents it in a way that will leave readers reeling.

I read at least 125 books a year….been reading for the last 20 years pretty nonstop….this book…is on my top five best books I’ve ever read!
Still can’t believe the originality of Sarah’s ideas here
Let’s just say we don’t know others nearly as well as we’d like to think. A chance encounter in a bar leads to first the shock of realizing the man from the one-night stand is her new boss, then that the lovely woman who befriends her is none other than his wife. They’re so NICE. Ahem.
Distinctly beguiling in a way found only in this writer’s wonderfully-controlled voice, the layers, twists, reversals, and jaw-dropping revelations are a wonder to behold, even as the reader clings for dear life, reading faster and faster, to find out what is really going on, and to whom, and how, and why, and …
Strongly recommended. A spectacular thriller. / Gene Stewart
SHOCKING! Truly shocking! I think my jaw hit the floor at the end of this book.
Really enjoyed this, although the ending was frustrating and not at all what I imagined!
Behind her eyes by Sarah Pinsborough is definitely worth reading. Don’t second guess the characters or else you’ll just be playing yourself . Looking forward to reading more books of hers in the future
Holy sh*t!
I am blown away. There are more than a few moments “WTF?” moments. Such a compelling story.
I’ll admit that I did guess one some things, some of the “misdirections” didn’t fool me, entirely.
Just as all the tag-lines have said, don’t give away the ending, that is a twist straight out of left field.
This was quite a story! It started out with me thinking why do I care about this stuff and then it turned twisted and so interesting. It left me shocked with the ending. It was quite an emotional roller coaster and I felt the feelings of the main characters. The author is amazing and has quite a vivid imagination. I want to read more from her!
What a crazy freaking read that ending was even crazier. Highly recommend this book. Didn’t see that ending at all. The characters are amazing. I couldn’t put this book down. Writing style amazing. Definitely will be reading more from this author. One last thing just when you have this book figured out your wrong.
About book-
Louise is a single mother looking for love. When she meets David she is in aww about him. Until she finds out that he is married to a beautiful young woman named Adele. When Adele runs into Louise they become friends.
And things from there get crazy.
the ending of this book is superb and so unpredictable, I thought i knew what was going to happen but my mind was blown.
Suspenseful! Loved it!
The book wasn’t bad – but what I struggled with was that this book is listed as a “psychological thriller”…and in my opinion, it absolutely is not. To me, this would either be considered sci-fi or fantasy. Had it been listed as such, I would not have read it to begin with.
Loved it such a great author
Never saw the end coming & I’m pretty good at predicting the end. Still thinking about it. Read it to believe it. Enjoy!
so this book left me speechless at the end and I did not see that ending coming when normally I’m pretty good at predicting endings. Just when you think you got it figured out you realize how wrong you wore in like the last 5 minutes of the book. This book was so good and well written and just wow mind blowing. This one will be with me for a while because it had that big of effect on me as a reader and I love when a book can leave me with my mouth gaping like what did i just read. This book will keep you guessing over and over. You will see Adel as this lonely, scared and mentally unstable house wife but there is more to her than what meets her eyes. This one will chill you to the bone. I still have goosebumps from that ending. This was a page Turner for sure. It’s slow going at first and you may think you have it figured out but you probably dont. This gives the whole I will never let you go thing to a whole new meaning.
An interesting read – finished in 1 day. I wouldn’t say I couldn’t put it down (I could) but I was intrigued to see how it ended.
Likes:
The swapping of characters chapters, between the two main leads, really got a good view point on what was happening, and built natural momentum for action. Sometimes this doesn’t work in books, but here it worked perfectly.
The characters – nicely complex, and the is David good or not? from page 1 onwards battle. That was great.
Dislikes:
There were moments of lots of internal dialogue, specifically questions, that Louise is asking herself. Those were quite redundant, and I skimmed through them. We already know the character well enough and identify that we are asking the same questions.
OMG WHAT AN ENDING. I did NOT expect that at all! Possibly I should have given the breadcrumb trail, but MAN that was great.
Wow!! That ending….it was a great read!
I stayed on the edge of my seat throughout reading “Behind Her Eyes.” It was totally different from any other love-triangle book I’ve read. Clear your calendar because once begun, you won’t want to stop reading!
A captivating hot-mess of psychological suspense! It puts a unique spin on the love triangle theme with secrets, lies. and motives exploding all over the place.
There are surprise bombs on almost every page and when one goes off it cranks up the “what’s really going on here?” factor even more.
Just when you think you’re starting to figure it out…..you aren’t.
This story messes with your head. It will confound and amaze you. In the best way.
NO ONE will see this final chapter coming!
Louise is a single mum living in London. She’s a part-time secretary at a psychiatric clinic.
She is somewhat weary and lonely when she meets a man, David, in a bar. They kiss.
She can’t stop thinking about him.
When she goes back to work a couple of days later she learns her new boss is Dr. David Martin, the man from the bar. She also discovers that he is married to the beautiful Adele.
Louise still can’t stop thinking about David.
Adele Martin “accidentally” runs into Louise one morning when Louise is distractedly walking back home after dropping her son off at day care.
Adele suggests coffee. Louise reluctantly agrees. Soon they find themselves becoming friends.
Adele doesn’t want Louise to mention the meeting to David. He doesn’t like her making new friends.
The secrets build.
Louise wonders at why Adele seems so afraid of David. She’ll be wondering more than that before long.
She’ll find out that she’s in a precarious position in this triangle. She feels trapped. She wants out. She doesn’t know what to do.
But Adele has a plan. Boy, does she ever.
Prepare to have your world rocked when you discover what’s really going on……BEHIND HER EYES!
“You need to learn to control your dreams.”
BRILLIANT!
Wow, can I give this book 0 stars please?! NO book has ever taken me 10 days to read…A so-so book this length normally would take me MAX 2 day to read. This one was just a painful read! Characters were extreamly unlikable and I kept having to put the book down because it was so boring. The “BIG MIND BLOWING TWIST” everyone is raving about…save time and just read the last 10 pages of the book! Your welcome!!!
This was a great book and then at the end it was just like wow didn’t see that coming this is a very good book
