SOON TO BE A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES The instant New York Times and #1 international bestseller. “You should read Behind Her Eyes…It’s bloody brilliant.” –Stephen King “An eerie thriller…Pinborough keeps us guessing about just who’s manipulating whom – until the ending reveals that we’ve been wholly complicit in this terrifying mind game.” –The New York Times Book Review Why is everyone … terrifying mind game.” —The New York Times Book Review
Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes?
Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.
When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake, but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.
And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend. But she also just happens to be married to David. And if you think you know where this story is going, think again, because Behind Her Eyes is like no other book you’ve read before.
David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife. But then why is David so controlling? And why is Adele so scared of him?
As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But Louise can’t guess how wrong–and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.
In Behind Her Eyes, Sarah Pinborough has written a novel that takes the modern day love triangle and not only turns it on its head, but completely reinvents it in a way that will leave readers reeling.

This book kept me guessing! Highly recommend!
Destined to be compared to Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train, Behind Her Eyes has been buzzing since before its release because of its insane ending. Adele and David have a seemingly perfect marriage. Louise is bored and lonely, a single mother who wants to shake things up, so she goes to the bar one night and meets a guy. She hooks up with him and goes home, only to go to work the next day and realize that same guy is her new (married) boss.
While there’s a lot more to this book than just this summary, I highly recommend going into this one not knowing much. There is an inescapable sense of unease throughout the book, and, while a little far-fetched, it’s fast paced and will have you racing to find out how it could possibly end.
The end will hit you like a ton of bricks, and whether you love it or hate it, you’ll be dying to talk about Behind Her Eyes with the next person you see!
I thought I had it figured out, and I did…almost! Did not expect the end and found it brilliant! Never saw the final twist and loved it. Highly recommended.
A friend passed this book on to me a few months ago after she read the entire thing on her flight from Philly to L.A., and I’m so glad she did. It’s mysterious, dark, and suspenseful, and at the heart of it all is obsessive love.
It is such a page-turner and not like any other story I’ve read before. All I wanted was to get to the end because I couldn’t figure out what that ending would be for Louise, David, and Adele. It wasn’t anything I saw coming.
All I can say is “wow” and “bravo” to this new to me author for a story well told. I highly recommend this book to all readers of romantic suspense.
Twisted story with twisted characters. It is an, “are you kidding me” type of book. You are drawn into the story by Louise who happens to meet her future boss in a bar…close call but nothing happens and this is when the creepy tale begins. You are suspicious as each new character is introduced and every time you think you know what will happen next it is a red herring. This book captured me until the very end. This book has a twist of Twilight Zone moments that starts you thinking no way. I swear I heard Rod Serling say, “meet Louise, an unassuming secretary as she begins her journey with David..”
Behind Her Eyes started out a little slow, but on page 50 I said Oh My Gosh. At the end of each of the following chapters I tried to figure out the end. When I got to the last 10 pages I was sure I knew the ending. WRONG!!! Unless you’re psychic you won’t be able to figure it out either. I would have given this book 5 stars except for the use of the f word.
I can’t stop thinking about this book. Watched the Netflix series after reading – the book is much better
Hmmmmm…I don’t even know where to begin Just read this…you won’t be disappointed.
This is marketed as a psychological thriller and it does fit that aspect nicely BUT there are also other elements that add to that and have more of a Twilight Zone feel which I loved.
I absolutely enjoyed this one and the ending?? Nope…NEVER saw that coming. So well written and the flow was easy and enjoyable. Never read this author before but after this they are definitely getting added to my favorite list.
Tension woven from strong emotions, love, hate fear, and acts of deceit, manipulation, anger and secrets lots of secrets! There are hints and details left on the pages for us to take in and still probably be fooled! A love triangle you would never expect, who are these people, we learn who as things move forward! One seems weak but is she? One seems hard and deceitful, is he one seems to be a fairly normal kind of messed up, is she though?
This book took ahold of my imagination! Even when I wasn’t reading I was thinking about it. questions running through my head constantly. Then it happened at the end of chapter 54, as I turned the page to 55 I knew! I knew what was going to happen… was I right? I was and it was breathe taking! I was not disappointed! Pulled taut til the very end…
I challenge you to take the ride , see if you can figure it all out!
A great twisty thriller that kept me engaged from the start, and absolutely missed the final chapter twist, which made my jaw hit the floor. Ignore the doubters, this story IS worth your time!!!
All I can say is that I am so happy that I finally know about the crazy ending of Behind Her Eyes! It definitely takes a turn into the unexplainable and it was quite the ride getting there.
I ended up listening to almost the entire book on audio and if you don’t mind listening to English accents, it is quite good. There are a whopping four narrators in this book – Anna Bentinck, Josie Dunn, Huw Parmenter and Bea Holland. All of them did a great job, but every once and awhile I would forget who I was listening to since a couple of them sounded a lot alike. I think it is important to pay close attention to what you are listening to if you go the audio route. The plot is pretty complex, and it goes much deeper than just a WTF ending.
I do wish this book wasn’t just being marketed as a psychological thriller as that is only part of it. There is definitely a supernatural aspect so if you don’t like endings that can’t be explained with straight up logic this probably isn’t the book for you. I also had to really carefully read the last chapter to make sure I understood what was going on. That is a me thing but it’s definitely something you have to wrap your head around!
Overall, I really enjoyed Behind Her Eyes and I would definitely say Pinborough is one of my favorite authors. All that I’ve read from her so far has been very different and I can totally appreciate that. This is psychological thriller meets domestic drama meets supernatural suspense and it was a lot of fun. I would recommend if you are a fan of books with endings that go beyond the “explainable.”
Ok, you need to suspend your disbelief for this one, and maybe put aside the sharp dissonance of the ending with the rest of the story. But besides that, the well-drawn characters and the fast-paced plot make this a gripping book. A crazy and enjoyable ride throughout.
The ending is the best part. WOW!!! I did not see that coming. What an ingenious set of twists. Loved it. I’m glad I didn’t give up on this book. It was a little difficult to grasp with all the POVs and time periods. Great read!!!
You will be on the edge of your seat! The ending is great! Thought I knew exactly where the storyline was going right up to the end, then, whoosh one more twist that you will not see coming. Excellent, absolutely excellent! I definitely recommend!
Louise is divorced, a single mom who drinks, eats and smokes too much who feels like life is passing her by. She meets a charming, attractive man one night at a bar and kisses him– only to fid out days later that he is her new boss. What should be an awkward mistake turns into a warped love triangle unlike any other I’ve ever read.
Louise plays with fire, becoming increasingly involved with David, her boss, while she finds herself in a strange, but exciting, new friendship with his wife, the beautiful, troubled Adele. Despite how perfect it seems from the outside, Louise soon suspects there’s something odd about David and Adele’s marriage, but she is too attached to each of them to let the other one go– or probe too hard at what their issues are.
Told primarily from the perspectives of Louise and Adele, this novel unravels at a twisting pace. Sarah Pinborough has written one fine psychological thriller about love, marriage, friendship and the secrets we all keep, even from those closest to us. Loved this book and will be watching for more from Pinborough.
this book didn’t do it for me – I had high hopes after some of the hype, but I found myself just wanting to finish. I think I may just be over the whole Gone Girl/Girl on the Train thing. I enjoyed those when I read them, but I don’t need to read them over again or add in a sprinkle of something that literally can’t ever happen. I don’t mind suspending disbelief, don’t get me wrong, but this just felt like it was trying way too hard to be the newest coolest gadget that everyone has to have.
How do the mentally ill affect those around them? Find out in this masterfully written book covering the interactions of family and friends.#WTFthatending?
Not a fan of the occult or supernatural. All characters off kilter…and will continue to be.
Introducing anomalous elements into a real-world thriller is a difficult act to pull off, but the author achieves the feat excellently by staying just inside the envelope of believability.
I’m usually pretty good at figuring out an ending but oh holy mind benders did this book catch me by surprise! Well-written, impeccably thought out, and executed. Great book! Highly recommend!
