All Elizabeth Marshall wants to do is start over in the small town of Springfield, Ohio where no one knows her. The old, three-story, Victorian house seems like the perfect place to heal from the scars of her past and rebuild her life, but her plans quickly get derailed when she meets her upstairs neighbor. Christopher Daniels is all alpha male—tall, broad shoulders, and dark brown eyes that … brown eyes that seem to be able to look into her soul. His sharp attitude the first time they meet puts her on edge, but then he goes and offers her a job at his construction company. The more they work together, the more the lines between professional and personal begin to blur and she finds herself letting her guard down.
.
As they turn up the heat on their relationship, she finds herself forced to confront her insecurities…and the secrets she’s been trying to put behind her. But just as Elizabeth thinks she might get her second chance at finding love and a happily ever after, someone from her past has decided they aren’t ready to let go.

Fascinating story. To much sex.
Great story –
Can’t wait to read about Chris’ brother Gage!
Very very good. You felt for both Chris and Liz and understood why both were cautious and careful but knew when they both confessed their love it would be powerful!! A standalone and a HEA!!! Great story!!
I loved it. The characters are interesting and real. Enjoyed the book.
I enjoyed it.
I just love this book. Can’t wait to read more books of her.
Wow, I didn’t see the ending coming. It’s scary how much people will do for revenge. All’s well that ends well.
This book had a little of everything. She was an abused wife who murdered her husband in self defense. She moves on and meets a fellow tenant and they are immediately attracted to each other. However her past catches up with her and someone is trying to intimidate her by breaking into her apt and spreading blood all over. He becomes her boss and protector
this book was awesome! gives woman hope.
Loved this book!
Haven’t read a book like this in a long time. The book was very relatable and realistic. Good read.
Enjoyed reading this book
I loved this book and all my friends would give it a 5 star rating!
Enjoyed it very much!
I’d really give this 3.5 stars. The book was well written, although predictable. It was paced ok, but had a few abrupt areas that made no sense (I.e. the resolution of the central plot theme). Characters were nicely developed. Few typos or grammatical errors.
Entertaining
Great Suspense
Elizabeth decided to move to a smaller town after the death & trial of her abusive husband. She found a wonderful landlady and place to live. But her upstairs neighbor seemed a little gruff. Christopher was needing to replace his assistant and was over tired. The first he meets her he wasn’t very nice. But he thinks she is beautiful. Then he hired her as his assistant and then he falls for her, but then he needs to protect her.
Elizabeth meets Chris when she moves into the house he shares with lovely Jan,the landlord. From the start they have this energy pulsing between them.
This was a really good contemporary love story with a little mystery and suspense along with plenty of heat. The characters were strong and very likable. The love scenes were beautiful and enticing.
Elizabeth, with no family left, leaves her old life behind in hopes of starting fresh, and she hopes moving to Springfield will do just that. She plans on keeping to herself and not draw any attention to her, but that changes as soon as she bumps into her new upstairs neighbor, Chris. He is gorgeous, broody, serious, and has no desire to get to know his new neighbor, even though he notices her beauty and curves. Their landlady, Jan, has other ideas and pushes Chris and Elizabeth together whenever there’s an opportunity. She somehow becomes Chris’ new assistant and soon they are spending more time together. Both have been hurt in the past and have their hearts guarded, and sometimes that hurt will always be a reminder not to trust. When there is a threat to Elizabeth’s life, will Chris be there to protect her? Or will he run, knowing he can no longer protect his heart since it is now in her hands?
This was a great read! Elizabeth and Chris have been betrayed by their spouses. They slowly learn to trust one another, and Chris’ family have taken it upon themselves to include her in their lives, despite Chris’ objections. I love his brothers and how protective they are of Elizabeth. I’m looking forward to reading all their books!
Another new author to me. This book! I loved and adored every minute of it. It was well written and well developed. It had everything I love in a book: mystery, suspense and romance. This had elements of a second chance for Chris and Elizabeth who after their hurtful past relationships didn’t believe in love. This is Chris and Elizabeth’s story. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Daniels brothers.
Elizabeth Marshall seemingly had the perfect life. But it’s not everything what it seems like. Her ex husband was controlling and he abused her. Until one night she fought back and was left to accusations and judgement. So six months after the death of the ex husband Elizabeth decides to start anew.
Chris Daniels has been through a very nasty divorce. His ex is a superficial woman who cheated on him and didn’t value him as a person. He became bitter and wanted to be left alone. He also wanted a fresh start and he sworn of relationships.
Chris and Elizabeth are perfect and amazing together. I loved them the minute they met. They are two people jaded from the past and but with each other they found peace and can slowly heal. Chris is her neighbor and at first she was intimidated by him. The attraction was instantaneous. Whenever they are near each other sparks fly. They are intense as their chemistry and connection. I love the way Chris sees her and is trying to tell her that she is worth everything. No matter how much Chris is reluctant to start something with Elizabeth he can’t help but feel and She makes him feel alive. She knocked him on his knees from the moment he saw her. Both are fantastic, strong and amazing characters with a dash of vulnerability neither wants to show. Chris is so gruff and grumpy but underneath he’s such a sweetheart and protector. Love how he wants to protect Elizabeth. He doesn’t question her worth. He wants her to believe she is amazing and that her difficult past isn’t her fault. Chris owned his feelings and he was so kind – that’s what I loved the most about him.
Perfect epilogue. Wish it was longer lol because I didn’t want to end. Can’t wait to dive in the next books.
