Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and … and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.
Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.
Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.

The most amazing read
Couldn’t put it down
This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Life on the surface can be very deceiving! Suspenseful!
This book is one of the best psychological thrillers I have ever read! I listened to the audio version which put me right inside the story. Gut clenching, edge of your seat yet disturbing all in one book. Highly recommended
Couldn’t put this down! Loved the ending!
Lots of twists and turns. Fast, heart-thumping read.
I couldn’t put this book down. It held so much suspense I just didn’t know what would happen next. Made me rethink about the different forms of spousal abuse.
Well written and eye opening. Similar to my own experience with a MAD psychopath ex husband. I’m one of the lucky ones that escaped from the clutches of pure evil.
After all the hype I heard about this book, I expected more. I was underwhelmed. It lacked the drama, suspense, the THRILL you expect when you pick up a book marketed as a thriller. Maybe it was because there was no mystery – we know, from almost the very beginning, what the deal is. Maybe it was because none of the characters were particularly likable, including the heroine which we’re supposed to be rooting for. Maybe if it was told from the perspective of Esther looking in it would have had more suspense, more dread, more mystery.
If you’re in the mood for a heart-pounding page-turner, look elsewhere. There are plenty of psychological thrillers and action thrillers that are much better executed than this one. This one was just…boring.
Creepy good
This book is all that a psychological thriller should be. The writing was perfection. So tense I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what happened. My new favorite book of all time.
Love a good page turner!
Story about what we think a perfect marriage and then it’s not.
Absolutely LOVED this book!! So many on the edge of your sit moments, and I was so intrigued that I literally could not put it down! Quick read but easily one of my favorite books now!
I enjoyed it
I loved this book. A true page turner with a great ending.
A pretty scary book indeed. This book portrays an innocent girl who is trying to find love and gets sucked in by this seemingly handsome and generous lawyer who fights cases for battered women. What could be more perfect? Only, she finds out that he is emotionally abusive and controlling. This book shows how terrible emotional abuse can get. When you think people are living perfect lives, they are not behind closed doors. Just knowing that people might actually be living a life where they feel trapped in a world of pretend and fearing your every move, whilst everyone around you has no idea is unexplainable in words.
It simple, Grace. We kill Jorj Koony.’
Let me say something first, this book is not the next Gone Girl. I’m tired of every thriller or mystery book having that as one of the praises. It’s not. — This book is much more psychological and unsettling than Gone Girl.
The mystery began right at the beginning of page one. There was no wasting time and I was immediately hooked. Within a couple of pages, I was extremely unsettled, had chills running down my spine and goosebumps were appearing on my arms. I could not put the book down because I was eager to know what would happen next. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it’s very intense. What you think is happening between the couple is a lot worse than you can imagine. I gagged a couple of times while reading because I didn’t think that things were so horrible. This is definitely a book that you have to experience for yourself and maybe you’ll understand the feeling.
The pace of the book is very calm, but not slow! New problems are happening on every single page and that’s what keeps you hooked from beginning to end. My favorite characters was Millie and Esther. Millie was so underestimated by Jack, it was very humorous to me. I loved Esther since she was first introduced. I knew that she would come to the rescue at some point in the book, but I didn’t expect the ending to be like that.

My one star is STRICTLY for the narrator who does an amazing job in trying to make you believe the garbage the author is writing.
It’s not often that reading the last page of a book evokes goose bumps in me. But “Behind Closed Doors” did. All I can say is, “Wow”!
