When Scarlett Johnson, a sporting woman from the Rosita Saloon, is chased by a scoundrel from the only place she can call home, she boards a train bound for the western frontier. But a chance encounter with a regretful Mail Order Bride gives her an idea – what if she could impersonate the woman? Even if only for a few days – for a warm bed and a hearty meal or two. She won’t marry the man, but … maybe she could hole up on the ranch for a while, just until she figures out a way forward.
Joe Baker, a cowboy working on the Moore ranch, waits in Cutter’s Creek for the stage coach to deliver his Mail Order Bride. But when she arrives, she isn’t the woman he expected her to be. She’s beautiful and colorful and makes his heart pound. But is she the bride he sent for?
Will Scarlett’s ruse be exposed? Or will she beguile the man she has no intention of marrying?
When secrets from the past come back to haunt them, both Joe and Scarlett have decisions to make, and Scarlett’s life will be thrust into danger. Can they find love? Or are they destined to be torn apart by circumstances beyond their control?

Redemption?
Scarlett is, in fact, a scarlet woman and considered a soiled dove. Escaping from a villain, she poses as a mail-order bride, hoping for a few meals and a place to stay before she moves on. Plenty to ponder as we view another aspect of frontier life.
This story is part of the Cutter’s Creek Series. This is a great Series. Scarlet and Joe’s story is a clean romance, filled with twists and turns. The characters are great, and the story is intriguing. Paul Curtis did a good job with the narration.
I loved this story! The audio version was wonderful with a great narrator! I would enjoy more book by both Vivi and Paul!
I like the hero on the book cover better than the audio book. I respect Joe for trying to honor the contract to Minnie, but Minnie was the one to break the contract. Joe also made a promise to Scarlett, and I feel he did not look hard enough for Minnie, or wait long enough for a response. Scarlett deserved better from Joe, because in her heart she believed she wasn’t good enough because of her past. Even when she broke down and confessed she had no where to go, Joe still did not back down from his supposed honor. He never asked what she would do when she left Cutter’s Creek or if she would go back to being a saloon girl. I hate when a man can’t see past his own pride. So parts of this story made me angry, but of course the women in Cutter’s Creek come in to save the day. What would man do without women? Answer. He would be eternally unhappy and in the dark. This story will tell you how to look past your pride and see a solution and future happiness.
This story made me laugh and made me cry. This is a story of redemption for a former saloon girl and the cowboy who fall Iove. He breaks a promise to her by keeping his word to another. Though he loves her he has to make up his mind, love or honor? Will he make the right decision before something bad happens?
Beguiled
Cutter’s Creek, Book 22
By: Vivi Holt
Narrated by: Paul Curtis
After working in the Rosita Saloon, and having her boss take all she has saved, Scarlett knows it’s time to go. But where can she go to start over? She finds an opportunity to take over the spot of a mail order bride in Cutter’s Creek. She will just stay awhile, enough time to get her life in order and not fall for the intended, Joe Baker. But will it work out as intended? Vivi Holt writes this story of finding your way home. She gives Scarlett grit and gumption to make a new life, redeem herself and find true love. Joe is an honest man of his word and comes through with his true love. This series is beautiful, each story its own personality. This one took my heart, broke it and mended it back stronger. Paul Curtis continues to bring it all to life with his wonderful narration.
