In Before Sunrise, Will Fortin of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is on patrol in southern Alberta. It’s a lonely region where the sky meets the land on even terms, where the landscape exaggerates or diminishes your place in the world. If you’re lucky, trouble would never find you there. If you weren’t, this was your battleground. This is where Fortin experiences the worst any cop can face, the … can face, the taking of innocent lives while under fire in responding to a violent call at a farm involving a gun. His life destroyed his guilt unbearable, Fortin, a good man, struggles as a haunted soul, aching to redeem himself.
Years after the shooting, Fortin is assigned to escort a murderer from a Canadian prison to trial in Seattle, Washington. When their plane crashes in the unforgiving Rocky Mountains, Fortin is presented with his last chance at redemption.
Before Sunrise is a powerful, heart-wrenching story of love, heartbreak, courage and enduring human spirit.

I am a huge Mofina fan, anyway, this book is fantastic! Excellent plot, excellent characters and skillful writing. I highly recommend it!
Excellent
Wanted a happier ending, but this page-turner kept me going til the end.
Solid story. Well-written. Character development–their motivations and fears–was very well done. Even minor characters have sufficient description so that one can understand what they do.
Excellent story! Enjoyed it a lot.
Enjoyed it. I recommended it to a friend. Worked in area of law enforcement & married to an officer, the reality of what transpires is most realistic. Sad but true unfortunately! Majority of population has no idea the “hell & anguish” these guys & gals go through!
This book like the others I have read is a great piece of literature. You know from the first page that you are embarking on a great ride. Character development and plot development is superb. Highly recommended.
Excellent read
This is a story you will find yourself mulling over long after you have finished reading it. The interconnectness of our actions is reflected in the story.
Enjoyed it very much.
Great read
Excellent story filled with twists and turns from start to finish, and wonderful believable characters. Highly recommend. Looking forward to the next book.
This was a fast read. I enjoy Mofina’s writing. Always entertaining with great characters. Ending was unexpected.
Good read, just did not care for the ending.
As a young kid a gypsy predicts Will Fortin will do a great thing in life. He becomes a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and has a wife. Everything is going great until that fateful night when he is involved in a shooting. His life falls apart as he blames himself even though he was not at fault. He is assigned a detail to move a prisoner which requires air transportation. The plane crashes and Will survives along with the prisoner who escapes. This is a real page turner with a bit of different plot than what is typical for this author. There are several typos in the Kindle edition that need to be fixed. Rick Mofina always tells a good story.
I have not read one of Rick Mofina’s books that I haven’t liked. He is a terrific writer, keeps you up all night because you just have to read one more chapter. This book was the same. From beginning to end you relate to the characters. I have been his forever fan for 18 years now and he hasn’t let me down once!! I highly recommend ALL his books!!
Kept you guessing as to whether the officer could recover from a traumatic event and put his life back together.
I kept saying just one more chapter and finished it in one sitting. You really feel for the characters and what they are going through.
His books are usually 5-star. This one missed that rating by relying too much on coincidence.
I’m a fan
