Brandon started out life as a simple gator shifter in the swamp. Now he’s a monster. And beasts don’t get fairy tale endings.Apparently someone needs to explain that to Aimi. The woman with silver hair, and attitude, has this ridiculous notion that Brandon is something else. Something impossible.I am not a dragon. But dragons do exist. They live among the humans and shifters, hidden for the … and shifters, hidden for the moment. His uncle Theo wants to change that and doesn’t care who he hurts along the way. Even family.
Can Brandon stop him before it’s too late?

I really liked how this book felt. It felt, and a large part because of the awesome narration, serious but not too serious. You could always tell things were looming, big things, but there was a feeling of living in the moment that was there too. Lots of lore that was strategically reveled, and a great introduction to the baddie for the series. Wonderful slow burn with completely engaging characters!
While not one of the author’s better books, this is still an enjoyable read. A macho guy suddenly gets dropped into a matriarchal society. That culture shock on top of his struggle to figure out what his unscrupulous uncle did to him is difficult enough to deal with. Throw in the discovery that the girl he’s interested in belongs to a shifter species that he didn’t know existed and that whatever his uncle did to him made him of the same species. Add to that the outing of the shifter race in general to non-shifter society, and what do you have? The start of a new, raucous mud-wrestling match of a series for us readers to enjoy. This is going to be really fun.
Great read!
ARC review For honest review. Brandon Mercer thinks he’s a monster after being changed because of his uncle only to find he’s not a monster or alone, but a prize from his mate aimi silvergrace of the silver sept. And with the help of her family find he got a bigger treasure.
I felt like giving this book 3 stars, but I loved Aimi so much I’m giving it 4.
Every one is simple, clear, and to the point. There is action and lots of foreplay leading up to the big bang scene.
I’m guessing this book will not be for everyone because it’s very different than about 90% of what’s out there right now in paranormal romance land. But for me? It was AWESOME.
Plot overview: Brandon, a gator shifter who has escaped from an evil genetic lab who forced him into unwanted experiments and servitude, is doing his best to avoid society and find his sister who is still a prisoner of the lab when he meets Aimi, a feisty dragon shifter intent on claiming him as her own. Hijinks ensue.
Here’s what readers will have to be able to accept before they’ll enjoy this one:
1. Brandon is a little broken from his time in captivity. He doesn’t feel worthy of Aimi, the heroine, and he has trouble believing that he’s more than a science-experiment-gone-wrong. His issues make him…not the typical alpha male hero you find in so many shifter romances these days. He’s angsty, but no so much that I was annoyed.
2. Aimi, however, is VERY MUCH an alpha shifter. She’s smart and confident and strong and sassy. Basically, she’s everything I adore in a romance heroine. But if you’re not OK with romance heroines who are bigger badasses than their heroes, well, this one probably isn’t for you. You’ll see in some of the book’s other reviews that readers can find Aimi to be abrasive and cocky and arrogant. I won’t lie: she is. But her personality is a reflection of her strength and self confidence and how she was raised in a matriarchal society, so it makes total sense that her character would be unique. I found her refreshing, quite frankly. But if you’re looking for paranormal romance heroines who are meek damsels in perpetual distress, you WILL NOT enjoy Aimi.
3. It’s a slow burn romance. There’s lots of coitus interruptus going on in this one. I don’t mind that kind of thing, but if you’re looking for erotica, look elsewhere.
Now, if you can overlook what I’ve mentioned above, you’re also in for:
1. Laugh-out-loud scenarios and side characters
2. Super interesting and unique world building
3. Fun, witty banter in every chapter
4. Lots of action-y scenes. I could easily see this being made into an action movie—and I do love me some action movies.
So, long-story-short, I highly recommend this one to fans of snarky, sassy, badass heroines and the often befuddled heroes who love them.

Good read.
Good but the ending came too suddenly.
Slow start but picked up the pace and ended well.
Weird
Didn’t really care for the interaction between the 2 main characters.
This was a slow book for me. I had trouble remembering what was going on if I put it down for very long. The story was original. It just didn’t hold my attention.
I really enjoyed the strong, sassy female characters. It’s fun to watch the male protagonist rail against his fate and slowly get pulled in anyway. The matriarchal dragon society is interesting and I wish there was more reflecting on what they used to be in order to reveal more about the secretive species rather than lamenting the lost glory days.
I found this book too busy. I did not finish it. I skipped to the ending after half of the book.
Love her books! Always new and intriguing plots and characters
I have yet to find a book by this author that I don’t like. They all have great world building, interesting characters, and even though most are part of different series of hers, you don’t have to read all of them or read them in order for them to be enjoyed.
I liked this book. It was not a “formula” romance.
Like her other shifter books, this has intriguing characters and steamy romance. I found myself wishing the male protagonist could accept what seems obvious to us, but that’s very human — to not recognize what others see clearly? I really liked this female protagonist. She’s fun!
It was a fun read of a gator shifter realizing his new life. Liked the sassy female. Did not like how it abruptly stopped. Give you book 1, free. Hook ya and oh, gotta pay to find out what happens next.
