An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • WATCH THE EMMY-NOMINATED NETFLIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY • OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK • NAACP IMAGE AWARD WINNER • ONE OF ESSENCE’S 50 MOST IMPACTFUL BLACK BOOKS OF THE PAST 50 YEARS In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most … accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

I teared up each time I opened the book. A great look behind the curtain into the lives of one of the most publicized families. Inspiring to the average American, and encouraging about our incredible previous first-family.
I loved the book. I re-read it quite regularly. A very good “story” we lived from the outside of the Obamas life.
I’m going to keep a copy in my library–it’s that good.
The book was well written. I listened to the audio version and the reading by Michelle Obama was excellent. It was very insightful and it’s amazing how she detailed her experiences from beginning to end. I was and am amazed and thoroughly impressed with her and her achievements before, during, and after her tenure as First Lady.
It was very interesting to read the story of our First Lady growing up.
While this wasn’t really my choice for a read, book club keeps it real. It was an interesting story and helped me learn a lot about the White House, hire things are run, and some of her ideas. While I don’t necessarily agree with all the policies out into place or what she sees as being so great it was good to learn about her. I did feel like while she condemned whites as being racist or men as being gender biased and I do agree there are some she also tended to sound very much that way. Hopefully someday this craziness will change.
I didn’t love this book not did I hate it. I found it kept me reading as much to learn about the gossip behind living at the white house as much as because it is a book club book.
This book inspires me to be the best I can be!
we don’t need more books about this terrible human being.
Very open, honest and totally inspirational.
I truly enjoyed this memoir by Michelle Obama. It was refreshing to read especially in these times.
I love this book, we both grew up in the same era,
I could relate to a lot of the things she lived in her childhood,
She is an amazing lady,
Self-absorbed navel gazing.
Made me cheer from the bottom of my soul.
Just strong, inspiring book for any woman who want to find her path and her obligation to her family vs to herself. She finds a blend, a peace to move confidentiality thru her life even when it calls to do it thru the fear.
I put off reading this book, because I had read so many excerpts that I thought that was sufficient. I also don’t consider myself a “political person,” and I thought this would be a book about politics. I was wrong on both accounts. The book was a well-written biography of a remarkable woman who has led a values-centered life. I was struck by how many ways her story and her milieu in Chicago have mirrored and intersected mine, even though there are many differences between us. Part of the charm of this book is this–the readers feel drawn into Michelle Obama’s world at every stage. At the end, we are left to wonder where she will take us next.
From the first page you can really hear Obama’s voice. Very well written. A good read by an inspirational woman!
Had a ghost writer.
It is so well written and brings back the feeling of hope and pride I had while Barack and Michele were in the white house. It was a very open book where she did not try to hide difficult moments or differences in life style that she had with Barack – yet their love and understanding kept them whole. They are both truly inspiring people.
Easy read; is interesting from cover to cover.
Loved it!
