Amid the beauty of Charleston, not all is as it seems. When her husband Liam is killed by a car bomb while their Celtic band is on tour in Charleston, singer and Irish beauty Alanna doesn’t quite know where to turn. Her father-in-law is threatening to take custody of the baby she carries, but Alanna knows she can’t lose the only piece of Liam she has left. Alanna’s manager offers her a marriage … her a marriage of convenience to obtain U.S. citizenship and allow her to escape her father-in-law’s control. It seems like the perfect solution until she arrives at the family home of her new husband–a decaying mansion with more questions than answers.
Strange things begin happening that threaten Alanna’s life and the life of her child. Are they merely coincidences? Or is something more sinister at work?
A mysterious painting, a haunting melody, and a love stronger than death leave Alanna questioning where darkness ends and light begins.

I love books that “take me away” and this one did just that! Set in the South, Charleston’s specific details play directly into the story’s plot, but the heart of the story, the main character Alanna drew me in with her sad circumstances and strength to continue. This is probably one of my favorite romantic suspense novels from one of my favorite authors. No boring parts in this one. I highly recommend!
I enjoyed Because You’re Mine. It felt very different from Coble’s other books, but then again, it had a classic Coble feel, if that makes any sense at all. The book is a gothic one, set in Charleston, SC.
At the beginning of the book, I knew where Colleen Coble was going with the story, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of it at all. This story though, did feel very creepy. It was exciting, tragic, and suspenseful all at the same time.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I also listened to it on audio book through our local library.
This was quite the book. I love reading Colleen Coble’s writing, and this one looked sinister and pretty amazing (the cover is awesome). But….it was just a little off for me. I kept reading because I was curious to see how it ended, but it wasn’t until the last hundred pages or so that I really enjoyed it, because then it got really twisted.
I don’t know. It was just….it was just a book. Barry seemed suspicious, but not deadly right away, even though I knew there was something with him. His mom was extra creepy, but she didn’t seem like someone who could kill a person.
The last part, though, was awesome. Colleen does a fascinating job weaving the intensity together, and I was literally bouncing around, waiting to see what would happen.
But it was still a good book, just not my favorite.
(Also….alligators….creeeeeeeeeeeppppppyyyy.)
I received this book from the Fiction Guild for an honest review and am not being paid for it Colleen Coble writes wonderful books that keep you intriqued until the very end. This book had a few twist and turns in it and made for a wonderful story line, Alanna and Liam were in love and part of a Celtic music group. Then one night after a performance her husband and his friend get blown up in a car and they thought he was dead and his friend was alive. She went back to bury him in Ireland and her father in law threatened to take her unborn child away from her after she gave birth. So Barry who was from New Orleans offered to marry her so she could get US citizenship. But little did she know that he had other motives for wanting her. Thinking she belonged to him because of a painting but she didn’t know that there were a lot of things she didn’t know. I love all the twist and turns in this book. Keep writing terrific books Colleen.
Great book. A little different for Coble but good.
I love Colleen Coble!

I like Coleen Coble. This book is good. I felt it drug on a bit and was a little repetitive.
This is another of Colleen Coble’s books that I enjoyed quite a bit. Her stories are very suspenseful with some strange, unstable characters who add to the page-turning quality of the book. I read this book in just a few days to find out how it ended.
Love her books! This one did not disappoint!
Not as good as some of her other books.
