Because of You by Barbara McMahon. This is Abby Martin and Ethan Cooper’s story.
Oh my goodness what an amazing read! This was an emotional and heartwarming romance with some surprises. I was hooked from beginning to end. The author did an excellent job of relaying to the reader the emotions of the characters. I can’t even image going to prison for so many years and losing as much as Abby lost. On the other hand Ethan’s guilt for being part of the prosecutor’s team would be horrible too.
I fell in love with Abby and Ethan. Ethan’s son was a great addition to the story too. Their journey was a rough one but it was worth it in the end. Now, there were times that I cried it was so emotional for good and bad reasons.
I throughly enjoyed Abby and Ethan’s story. So, sit back and dive into their story. At the end of the book you will be left with a wonderful feeling.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Can you stand the rain? Will I whether the storm? So many times I have heard those words, in song lyrics, in passing jest, etc., but do people truly understand the gravity of those words? Because of You takes a good hard look at those words. Abby and Ethan’s truth is one that will break your heart. What began as a tragedy becomes a heartbreaking miscarriage of justice. Abby has to find the strength to never lose hope and keep moving forward, even as her world is continuously falling apart. Ethan has to find the courage to forgive himself, for the part he played in an innocent woman’s downfall. Barbara McMahon wades through the ugliness of humanity to create something beautifully inspiring.
Barbara McMahon is a master at writing sweet emotional stories that draw the reader in & won’t let them go until the end. Abby was a young terrified widow when circumstances, a spoiled selfish friend & an ambitious egotistical DA managed to get her convicted for life. She lost everything! How could she trust the man who helped put her away?
Ethan was an idealistic young prosecutor just starting out. Something about Abby stuck with him through the years. When a chance comment lead him to investigate & find out that Abby was truly innocent, he was sick at heart. He did everything he could to get her released & started on a new life. Somewhere his feelings began to change & he wasn’t operating on guilt.
I loved these two characters! Abby has been broken down & her innocence lost. The decision about her daughter was heart wrenching while it was also the purest decision made of love. Ms. McMahon manages to make the reader fully feel Ethan’s guilt & pain even while sympathizing with Abby. As a reader, you would think you needed to support one or the other but you soon realize they are both broken in their own way. The addition of Sam brings back innocent love in its purest sense. He adds that element of unconditional love & acceptance. This story touched my heart!
I absolutely loved this book, but be aware , you might need a tissue box close by.
Abby Martin was convicted and sent to prison for life for a murder she didn’t commit. Ethan Cooper, was the young and greenhorn ADA who sat next to the DA during the trial.
Eight years later, Abby, resigned to a life behind bars, while suffering from claustrophobia, gets a chance to be free. Evidence shows up that the person she supposedly killed, is alive. Ethan makes it his goal to help her in every way he can. As Ethan spends time with Abby, what started out as guilt for being part of the team that sent her to jail, morphs into something more.
It’s a story about righting a wrong. About how circumstances beyond your control, can change your life forever, as well about family dynamics and exes. It is a heartbreaking story about loss. But it’s also a story about hope, new beginnings, second chances and love. This is definitely one of those books you will remember for a very long time.
Kudos to Ms McMahon for such a touching and wonderful story.
