This is a story you don’t want to miss. It is so emotionally gripping that it tears your heart to pieces and then mends it with all the passion and love that flows between between Aidan and Liz. Their back and forth drama is full of youthful angst and heartbreaking maturity as they realize the importance of forgiveness and love.
I read and reviewed a copy of this book.
From reading many other readers reviews. I have to agree with all of them. The characters are predictable when it relates to lust, desire & a bit of an addiction to one another. However, there lives are tortured w/ the pain of tragedies & the decisions they made 8 yrs ago. Now forced to work together on a new play where Liz is determined to make amends with the man she left for stardom & recognition within her craft. Liz finds out that Adian is not just going to forgive & forget for her leaving love over self recognition. Aidan demands perfectionist when it comes from his actors on stage. But when it comes to dealing with Liz & the pain she caused him he is not willing to let her in his vulnerable heart again! Which causes a toxic environment on & off the stage. It doesn’t help that Liz admits at a press junket that she is still in love with Aidan. She is going losing the only men who she has ever loved. One to cancer, the other to anger that she caused by leaving him.
History…
19 yr. old Liz McKay, was first known in to show business as the daughter of Broadway producer Dennis McKay, who gave her an audition for the lead role for an up & coming stage director Aidan Court. Adian was not happy that he was to have to take an audition of an unknown actress for the lead role because she is the investors daughter of his play. Unfortunately the star struck naïve Liz overheard that comments made prior to the audition. Which lead to a strenuous, sextual tension relationship during the rehearsals of the play. Until they give into their lust. Play was a success but Liz who admitted she loved Aidan decided to leave the play for Hollywood. Her excuse that the relationship was to good to be true & Aidan would resent her. That was her 1st mistake she didn’t give him the opportunity to make choice for love.
Aidan Court, renowned director of the stage didn’t expect to fall for the lead of his play. Instead of giving into his emotions he decides to avoid, criticizes & bicker with the want a be starlit. Aidan doesn’t know how to deal with love. He never had unconditional love except from his older brother Landon who saved him from the flaming car that killed their mother. She was a famous ballet dancer until her jealously lead to her death in a car crash when leaving their father. Once their mother died, Landon became the parent, while their father drank himself to death for almost a decade. Aidan as a teenager hated his father & made it quite clear the night before his father died. He feels abandon or not worth love. Image him trying to understand emotions other than lust when it comes to the beautiful, smart and a future award winning actress that he took for granted to be talented because she happened to be his investors daughter.
This series of the Court men is intriguing, suspenseful, full of vulnerability, & admitting to love.
Rachel & Landon’s story seems a bit more plausible when relating to their emotions, lack of communication & losing love because of not wanting to get her with the raw feelings of love.
Aidan & Liz a bit more unrealistic for example. “the love of their life” after a month together on a play? Doesn’t that explain why Liz would go and presume her dreams at 19 instead of pretending she is living in some type of fairytale & staying with her true love?
I recommend reading the whole series from the beginning to understand where the men are coming from with their actions, lack of actions, or fear as to why they keep their distant when it comes to admitting they love the women in their lives.
Both men’s lives were not easy. Aidan the younger of the two had a rough life, from the death of his parent & being ignored by his father who lost his wife.
As an adult to learn to cope with the emptiness inside of him. He puts his love of stage. Broadway plays is where Aidan’s talents lie as a director. This story starts briefly in the “now” then jumps to 7 years previously and the beginning of a tumultuous relationship that spans the their relationship. Where the lust, to love, to pain & anger. Lead to salles, compassion & forgiveness to be together again. It brings their characters full circle to their love for one another.
4.5 Stars
This is book 5 in the Swanson Court series and it features Aiden and Liz. Seven years ago they were completely in love and one day she up and left Broadway and Aiden for a movie career. Now she’s back and begging for forgiveness. Aiden is SO angry and rightly so. His love for her is so immense, so deep, that he wouldn’t survive her leaving again. When you have that all consuming, forever type of love, it’s unbearable to lose it not only once but twice. I’m not so sure it’s even possible to get past her selfishness. I was on the edge of my seat into the last chapter!
This is such a fantastic second chance romance and I’m so happy that Aiden FINALLY got his story! He’s a great character and I was rooting for him the entire book. Character growth was tremendous for him and others. I love that we got to spend time with Landon and Rachel.
I couldn’t wait to turn the pages for developments – beeautiful 🙂
