Beauty & Rage is a prequel for the Broken Crowns series. This is a twisted PNR series not meant for the faint of heart. Contains explicit steam and various dark themes.

I swear I don’t think there’s anything this lady can’t write. I absolutely loved loved this book. Its been awhile since I’d read a PNR book. This book the way the arthur took you on a journey into Purgatory you could just imagine in your mind what It’d be like.
This is one story I’d definitely recommend and it’s just the 1st one, so she’s just getting started in this series of Broken Crowns.
This is just my opinion and my review
Sigh…I pretty much enjoy everything this author writes, so when I found out she was venturing into the dark paranormal genre I knew I had to get my hands on a copy of this book. And, I enjoyed it quite a bit. There were a couple small issues I had that kept it from being a complete 5-Star read. However, those were minor issues and more like personal preferences than anything that took away from the story. The other small issue I had was that this ended SO abruptly. Obviously it was meant to end on a cliffhanger, but the book just kind of STOPPED in the middle of a scene. It was a bit jarring.
Those small issues aside I LOVED this book. The same great writing I have come to expect from this author. It is a relatively short book (two hours reading time), so it moved at quite a fast pace. The plot was super interesting. It was told in a dual POV format. The world building was good. It was darkish. It was twisted. It held a bit of mystery. There wasn’t any OW or OM drama. The sex was smokin’ hot. Duvessa was a likable and strong heroine. Reyes I am still unsure about. (lol) He was sexy as f-ck, and he seemed to be all about Duvessa, but he was also twisted and cold. I didn’t feel like we got to know him very well in this book. However, I am fairly sure there are two more books coming, so I assume the author will develop his character more going forward. There were also an intriguing cast of secondary characters. Duvessa’s two friends who it appears will probably be paired with Reyes’s two brothers. Dylan also intrigued me, and I have a strong feeling I know who he is.
So yea, not a lot left for me to say about this one. It had a couple teensy issues, but overall it was a fantastic read and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
Ooh this was soooooo good Natalie Bennett is a phenomenal writer and her books just keep getting better and better. I love Duvessa and Reyes. This story is dark, and I’m dying to figure out who Duvessa really is. Although Reyes is cruel I can’t help but think there is a purpose behind all his cruelty and he’s just waiting for Duvessa to remember! I need book 2 now! Buy this book asap! You’ll devour every word!
NB is an author that I come back for, over and over again, no matter how many cliffs she dangles me over.
This book! Dark, twisty PNR done incredibly! I am desperately awaiting the next book!
Honestly there is nothing that this author can’t write that I won’t love ! I’m absolutely obsessed with this world and characters it’s sexy dark with a PNR twist and I’m so here for it! Dove is trying to save her falling kingdom and she has to seek assistance from Reyes to keep it from falling there’s a lot of push and pull it’s dark it’s sexy it’s honestly sooo good I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough ! This story consumed me from beginning till end! I can’t wait for more! Amazing! Definitely recommend!
I really don’t like cliffhangers even more when the story is so good that you don’t want it to end. But alas I have to be patience and see how Reyes and Duvessa story will end and what journey this two will head on too.
I’m gonna give this a
Beauty and Rage is book one and serves as a prequel in the Broken Crown series. This was such a quick and easy read. I keep saying this time and time again, but it is sooo true. Natalie canwriteANYTHING! This one is a PNR with twist, turns and hot, hot steam. Also, this story has incredible world building and a very likable FMC. I got kind of a Cursed and The Witcher meets Reign vibes and I am 100% here for it! Can’t wait to read more of this series!
Beauty & Rage is book one in the Broken Crowns series. There aren’t many authors that I’ll read PNR by but I’ll read anything this author writes. Beauty & Rage is a brilliant read.
I will say as I don’t read PNR too much I did have to think while reading this but this is about me and nothing to do with the author. I still loved it.
From start to finish I was literally sucked in from start to finish. I read this in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down.
“I enjoy your body but I want your soul. That is why I made you mine”
I am SO IN DARK, BLOODY, VIOLENT, RUTHLESS PNR LOVE!! I am sitting here wondering what OH MY WHAT, can Natalie Bennett NOT write???? I love Dove/Duvessa from the VERY first page. Even though it wasn’t all sunshine and roses, she was just as fierce as all of Natalie’s heroines!!! GOSH I CANNOT EVEN CONTAIN ALL THE DARK THOUGHTS I AM HAVING, THINKING ABOUT THAT VAMPIRE. THE SEX. THE BITING. THE POSSESSIVENESS. Reyes is my every wet dream. Forget any other vampire you ever thought you thought about before. Like Duvessa says, he is a walking enigma and I couldnt agree MORE!!!! ok, now that I am done fantasizing about Reyes again, I just want to say that you need to read this. I hate spoiling books just that, he isnt the only non human. Duvessa is too. But I wont tell you what she is.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS:
“Are you ready to be mine?”
–
“No”
–
“This will only hurt for a moment”
….. (NOT GONNA SAY THE REST BESIDES…)
“Now, you are forever mine”
This king and queen needs all your attention!!! And it ends on a dang cliffy so you will need to be prepared to DEMAND more!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE NATALIE LEFT US OFF WITH THAT ENDING!!! I AM REELING RIGHT NOW WONDERING WHAT REYES IS FEELING AND DOING!!! IM AT A LOSS!!!!! GIVE ME BEAUTY & WRECKAGE ASAP PLEASE LORD/QUEEN NATALIE!!!!
Although this is not her usual MO in books ( which to me is nice because if they don’t change things up your basically reading the same book different names)..it still has the characters and darkness that is in all Natalie’s books. To me it was alittle confusing at 1st, but this is a series and I definitely feel that it will start coming together in the next book. I love Reyes and Duvessa and I’m looking forward to the darkness that this power couple will bring unto the unknowing.
I was completely sucked in to Beauty & Rage. Couldn’t put it down. I have to add though, far too many sex scenes for my personal taste. But that cliff!!!!
This book drew me in with its addictive plot, cleverly crafted story and characters which kept me frantically turning the pages, hungry for more. What a story! Book 1 in a brand new series which is already shaping up to be a wicked and absolute page turner of a series. I was enthralled from start to finish!
Deviant, deadly, sexy and powerful I was captivated.
This book put me on edge right from the beginning. Right from the first page, Natalie makes you wondering what is going on, and there is a mystery in these characters that makes you flip these pages as fast as your eyes can go. By the end of this book, I was sad to see it end and can’t wait for the next one.
Duvessa becomes the queen at the start of the story, and I loved her character. She is a fighter and doesn’t take crap from anyone, including the king of the underworld Reyes, the King of Purgatory who is evil and sadistic. For some reason (we have yet to find the full reason) Reyes has made sure that Duvessa doesn’t leave him or the underworld. Reyes makes daily visits to Duvessa’s bed, and they have diffidently had some significant heat in the bedroom.
As with all of Natalie’s books, there are some twisted issues in this book. But isn’t that what makes her books awesome?! And isn’t that what makes you want her leading men?
When one of my favorite author’s start a new series, I am always first in line to get my hands on it. I always find the first book fascinating because it opens a new world with new characters that I haven’t read before. And I have found that Natalie Bennett really knows how to spin a tale that keeps me intrigued. One of the things that I really like about her writing is that she leaves me guessing, and I love and hate it in equal measures!
In Beauty & Rage readers will be introduced the a whole new world full of danger and intrigue. I really liked the characters, and thought the pace of the story was spot on. And what I really, really liked were the hints that everything is not as it appears. There are hidden meanings behind many things that happen, and I grew more fascinated the longer I read the story.
I want to know more about the world that they belong too because I think that it will help to answer some of the questions that I have. There is history between the characters that the author alludes to, but only gives the barest of hint at … and it is driving me nuts! Now I need to know more. And I am also hoping that not only does she tell the tale of Duvessa and Reyes (main characters), but also of their friends (so far they seem friendly) and family.
Overall, grrrr … I need more!! I have so many questions, but Natalie dangled the carrot only so far and then pulled it back at the last moment. But, dammit, am I intrigued now. Any fan of Natalie Bennett will be happy to note that this book contains the darkness that readers are familiar with in her work, so they will definitely enjoy it! So, two thumbs up and happy reading!
Intense- Twisted – Engaging
I honestly do not know how Natalie does it. I read this in one sitting, devouring every scene like it was the last ( a small warning here this ends like an alley with a brick wall!)
The characters – Even the ones we spend so little time with seemed to make a dramatic impact on the story line, keep your eye on the details. We are also given glimpses into the timelines of the other brothers at the same time. A small taste of what is to come.
Duevessa our resident princess is a blend of personalities. She has the strength required of a ruler the ability to make the choices and sacrifices. The story opens when Duvessa is awoken from her slumber to find her kingdom in flames and her life as she had known it forever altered. As her world is slowly destroyed and her people brutally slaughtered she has to make a choice -Ask her enemy for help and hope he accepts or stands back do nothing and watch her kingdom fade to nothing
Will her sacrifice save her kingdom or will it expose a darker more sinister truth?
Reyes- The king The antihero
He has no morals, no concept of mercy- what he does have is the key that unlocks the truth. I am still reeling from his character and the secrets that he only allows us to glimpse. He does not see what he does as evil or unjust – it is who he is and he makes no apologies for it
There are some pretty intense breadcrumb trails that are tossed out for the reader leaving you with all kinds of possibilities, questions, and no answers!
Besides the abrupt ending, ( it was like slamming into a wall) and IMO the length (that is me being greedy)
If you enjoy dark paranormal with lots of intense scenes and dark villains then I recommend you one click now
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is the first book in the Broken Crown series. It is dark and gritty and may contain some triggers. I can tell you too that it will have you one the edge of your seat through most of it. This is a paranormal book too and I am not a huge reader or paranormal books. However I was hooked. There are way to many things to untangle and figure out and this book will keep your minds going a thousand miles and hour trying to figure them out. I am not giving away one bit of this story. If you like dark and gritty and just what the heck am I reading along with paranormal books then your will love this first book. I can’t wait for the next one to see what is going to happen.
So I adore this author’s dark and twisted mind and I also love paranormal so I was really interested to see how this author would handle this particular genre seeing as it’s her first foray into it.
Well, it was actually really good, the author managed to switch genres seamlessly slipping into this landscape like an old pair of slippers.
Expect all the usual blood, gore and truly reprehensible behaviour that you would normally get as this is just as extreme and out there as usual.
This gripped me catching my imagination almost instantly from the onset here.
There were such mysteries here just waiting to be untangled and solved and what clues we were drip-fed here in regards to Duvetta and Reyes shared pasts was so very intriguing indeed.
I have so many out-there theories at this time fighting for space inside my head and I do hope I have somewhat guessed some while others I’m probably barking right up the wrong tree entirely.
For now, I will just watch this space and wait and see what comes to fruition.
What I will say is that the premise behind this new series is ever so fresh and imaginative so I am really looking forward to what’s looming on the horizon here.
So Reyes himself seems a complete contradiction almost harsh and soft at the same time but that softer aspect seemed solely reserved for his Queen.
There’s almost at times a glaring disparity between the brutality and cruelty that Reyes is capable of and the almost loving regard he has towards Duvessa.
She likes his Achilles heel.
On a final note, I found the ending here a tad abrupt I was expecting a cliffhanger of course but the finale felt just extremely sudden like it stopped mid-sentence maybe it was just me.
Anyway, this was a fantastic and tantalising enigma of a start to this new series and I am looking forward to the next instalment here.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Beauty & Rage (Broken Crowns #1).
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

I haven’t read a PNR quite like this one. It was dark and kept you guessing. I don’t know what will happen next. The concept of the different supernaturals was amazing. I wanted how the different supernatural were going to pitied against one another. I can’t wait to get my hands on more. Who will rule?
I have to say I was completely blown away by this book. I was only slightly disappointed by the massive cliffhanger ending for this. I’m not usually a big fantasy reader but I took a chance and it turned out great! If anyone has read A Court of Thorns and Roses or Throne of Glass series this has a similar feel but so much more mature and adult. It was very easy to get caught up in the story and you feel for Duvessa. We start with her world being burned and destroyed her and a couple close friends were rescued from the chaos and force into hiding while trying to form a plan to get her kingdom back since she is now queen. When the plan backfires she is now a prisoner and not in control of anything in her life but she will never give up. Reyes the king to her queen is a royal jerk. He brings out Duvessa’s true nature while he’s hiding a huge secret on who and what she really is. Now that she’s bound to him things have become so complicated. Not only is she at risk and having problems adjusting to a new life style her friends are dealing with Reyes brothers. It’s hard telling who is a true friend and having a bond that makes Reyes able to read her emotions and thoughts doesn’t make things any easier, especially when he uses her body to not only deepen the bond but to confuse her more. This was a great start to a series and I’m looking forward to reading more. Five stars. – By Tiffany
I’m pretty new to paranormal romance, but I couldn’t pass a Natalie Bennett book. Having read her “Badlands” series, I’m totally hooked on her twisted stories!! This book was nothing less of what I expected from her! Another crazy twisted story to keep me in love with her writing!
I can’t really explain the whole paranormal background of the story because it’s pretty complicated; I still have some questions myself! Both Duvessa and Reyes are supernatural beings, but Reyes was made and not born. Duvessa is a royalty in this world but she can’t take her rightful place because someone is hunting her down. Reyes is a self-proclaimed king on his own land, commanding people with fear. When she seeks him out for help, he takes her as his queen without her agreement.
I had the feeling through the whole book that Reyes has his own agenda. His actions are confusing Duvessa and she can’t decide if she wants to trust him or not. They are both strong opinionated, so they constantly fight for dominance.
This book sets the mood perfectly for the next one. It gives us information about the world we are reading about but leave us with so many questions at the end. The author definitely succeeded on building up interest and left me wanting the next book now!!
