There is a lot in this tale.
A princess in danger and needing a husband and a man dealing with the loss of his wife are the leading characters in this charming story. There is a lot in this tale and it seems to go on forever it is a very intense story. Do give yourself time to read a rush read would not do justice to this tale. I found it entertaining and very glad I took the time to reading this piece. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I actually really enjoyed reading this book, I found it entertaining and it had my complete attention. All the characters became real to me and between the heartbreak and the heartache, there was humour, passion, intrigue, danger and love. It also has one of my favourite tropes….a scarred/wounded hero!!
My heart went out to Miles, having lost his wife in a fire and being left quite scarred while trying to save her. For 4 years he’s shunned going out in society and lives in darkness. When Princess Amber enters his life and asks for his help, he finds himself unable to refuse her. She’s the light to his darkness but he’s been mourning his dead wife for so long, he’s forgotten what to do with that light. I loved Amber’s character, such an innocent and yet strong heroine who has always felt alone and unloved. This is their story and how two lost souls finally find each other!!

Book two of the Lords of Stratford/The Kazanovs series is well written and held my interest until the end. If the majordomo Pebbles had a coin for every time he got terminated because Miles Montgomery, the Earl of Stratford told he was, he would have been a rich man. I enjoyed reading Princess Amber Kazanov, Miles Montgomery and his daughter Caroline’s story, I found myself laughing as I read. There is suspense, drama, danger, villains, a man with scars that can not get past them, kidnapping, and love. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Just…. No
Oh, my goodness! There are so many things wrong with this book that I don’t know where to start. Perhaps with the cover. This book is supposed to be late Regency, and that dress wouldn’t have ever been acceptable Regency garb. I found the language to not only have childish constructions but was actually icky in parts, especially when several men discuss “planting” babies in women, sometimes to their faces before marriage! Ewww. Again, this is the Regency Era. Other bits of language were far too modern, constantly jarring me out of the story. I also didn’t think that a Russian princess would be named Amber. That is such a contemporary name and certainly not Russian.
But the problems with this book are more than skin deep. The *hero*, and I use that term loosely, acts more like a bad guy than a romantic hero. This young woman was brought to him for honorable protection, but he determines to keep her as a mistress instead, wanting to plant those babies without the benefit of marriage. He was supposed to save not sully her. He literally made my skin crawl with all his shenanigans (and yes, he wants to bed other women as well). He was stupid and cruel, neither of which is a good quality in a romantic hero. The young woman is sympathetic given her plight, but ultimately she is stupid as well, as she allows the hero to treat her so shabbily. And, my goodness, the legal wrangling near the end was just nonsensical. If you enjoy Regency romance as I do, there are far better books out there.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
My favorite trope of the Wounded/Scarred hero comes alive in the story and warmed my heart!
A broken man after his wife died in a fire and her was scarred, Miles, Earl of Stratford, preferred to sit in the dark and only do business deals. Not get back into society.
His brother in law and Prince Rudolf Kazanov came to talk to him about a deal, but all they could do was urge him to get back into society and find a wife.
Little did he know, that wife would come to him in the form of Kazanov’s cousin, Princess Amber. She had to flee Russia or her uncle was going to sell her off as a slave. All she wanted was to quickly find a husband and marry before her uncle found her. Of course her cousin thought of Miles and quickly took her to see him.
A story of loss, danger, a villian, mystery and a long journey to happy ever after with several twist and turns!
Beautiful, emotional love story. Amber has to flee Russia or be sold as a breeder by a slave trader. Her cousin hooks her up with Miles the Earl of Stratford who needs an heir. His beloved wife died in a fire four years ago which also scarred one half of his body and he has lived like a recluse ever since. Amber has never know love and grew up lonely, as the bastard daughter of the Czar. She has longed for someone to love her and she wants marriage and children. But will Miles’ heart ever heal enough to lover her? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
When Princess Amber finds out that her cousin has some nasty plans for her she runs away where she meets Lord Miles. He is still suffering the lost of his wife but is intrigued by Amber. She needs a husband to protect her but Miles is not looking for another wife. This is romance with some suspense that keeps things interesting.
