Donna Alward is one of those category authors who manages to pack a lot of emotion into a 50,000 word book. Beauty and the Brooding Billionaire is no exception. While the book is romantic and aspirational (a hallmark of the Romance line), it is also about overcoming grief and finding the courage to risk heart ache again. Branson and Jess are tortured souls, both struggling to move past tragic losses in their life. You’ll find yourself rooting for them to push past their personal ghosts to find happy ever after.
Jess and Bran’s love story was an emotional story of two people struggling with their grief in Beauty and the Brooding Billionaire by Donna Alward, book two in her South Shore Billionaires series. Widower Branson Black could no longer find the words to create another best seller as he hid from the world in his private coastal estate. Artist Jessica Blundon struggled finding the right inspiration to urge her to paint after a tremendous loss of a friend. While staying at a coastal resort and exploring the beauty of the area she ends up trespassing on Bran’s property. Together, Jess and Bran rediscover the beauty in life around them, fueling their missing muses to create. Bran struggles with believing that he can fall in love a second time as Jess and his friends try to convince that loving again, after a loss, is perfectly normal. All too soon their old lives force them to return home and their safe harbor is no longer a sanctuary. Hopefully they will find strength within to risk their hearts and love for a future together.
Ms. Alward wrote a beautiful love story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, filled with sexual chemistry, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Jess and Bran a chance at finding real happiness, forever love, and creating a family together. I highly recommend Beauty and the Brooding Billionaire to other readers and look forward to future books in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
If like me , you have not read book 1 in the series, rest assure that this one is a stand alone.
This story centers around Jess/Jessica Blundon and Branson Black.
These two have had tragic losses in their lives, and have ended in Nova Scotia, where they are trying to find some semblance of normalcy as they the land and the ocean helps them heal.
Jess is also there looking for inspiration. When she comes across a lighthouse which she itches to photograph and sketch, she believes that might be it. Even with the “No Traspassing” sign , she’s determined to get close until the owner, Branson catches her .
What started out as a stand off that day, later develops into a “summer thing”.
While one is willing to rediscover the wonders of life and a future, the other has had that life and tragically lost it. Though Brandon is starting to “live” again, he’s not willing to go through that pain again. What will happen when they confront that reality? Will they risk it for the possibility of a bright future, or will fear and past experiences, be the reason to give up on love?
