My review :
A debutante determined to seduce a man intent to avoid her …
This is my first Virginia Taylor’s read, I didn’t know what to expect but the beautiful cover and the blurb caught me thus I preordered it.
This is a novella, so an easy read for a late afternoon.
I loved it was more than the blurb, Merry the cat is a character in its own right, as much as Rose and Ian.
I was like Ian and thought at first Rose to be a shallow spoiled brat but soon she shows she has quite a sense of humor and a true personality, not the one she shows as a mask to the ton.
Ian is not surprising a honorable man, devoted to his duties and seing Rose only as an arm candy, unaware that behind her facade face she has more depth than he expected.
This is a tale of learning and growing of age, Ian to discover a lovely face is not always synonymous of a lack of brain and Rose to grow from her mistake and go for what or who she wants if it is truly there that lies her happiness.
A fast and fun read with three lovable characters.
5 stars.

Rose is a popular young miss who has flocks of admirers. Instead of accepting one of the men vying for her hand, she sets her sights on the one man who refuses to even consider courting her. Her master plan is to force him into compromising her reputation while traveling back to their country homes. The entire situation was eye-roll worthy as Rose can’t seem to make her mind about what she wants to do, and Ian just caves to most of her whims.
I purchased this as part of a multi author bundle called ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS WEDDING
Enjoyable story and my first by this author. At times, I was confused on how the author unfolded the story. Seemed at times the middle was first before the beginning.
I did enjoy both character’s. The h has loved the H for a long time. She seemed like two different people to him, sometimes playing to all her admirers and then being genuine.
There is lovemaking within marriage, heat level 4 out of 5.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some Regency rules not followed (especially by the parents) and spice. (ljb)
Starring Sir Ian Temple and Miss Rose Darnell.
Ian sees Rose as shallow, frivolous, and young… but for some reason he’s starting to find her fascinating. However, he’s determined to fight his attraction to her because he feels they would never suit. But resistance is futile when it comes to love. It was so much fun seeing his resistance crumble.
Rose has loved Ian from the moment she met him. Now she’s blessedly given two full days to convince him that his opinion of her is wrong. She has her work cut out for her because Ian is as stubborn as he is handsome. She was such a tenaciously awesome heroine. Loved her!!
This is a classic “unexpected stay at an inn due to the weather, and we only have one room available” trope that I really enjoy. Their forced close proximity makes Ian realize how wonderful Rose is and that her beauty shines from a loving heart. Gaaaaah… these two truly gave me all the wonderful feels and I bawled my eyes out at the end.
*Now I loved Rose and Ian… but Merry the cat is an absolute scene stealer. I think it’s awesome that Ian and Rise both have conversations with the cat. I do the same with my fur baby.
I read and enjoyed this novella as part of the ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS WEDDING ANTHOLOGY. It was such a lovely story from Virginia Taylor. I thoroughly enjoyed every second I spent reading about Ian and Rose’s HEA. This is the reason why Virginia Taylor is firmly on my keeper shelf.
My Star Rating: 5 Stars
