I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!! My eyes were about to cross by the time I finished but I couldn’t stop reading it. I’m pretty sure she broke my heart with the prologue. I literally almost broke down in tears when I read it. The suspense was perfect, she will keep you guessing the entire time. The whole story was perfection, I don’t think there is anything that could have made it any better. The characters and world are so well done, I wish Sutter Lake was real so I could visit and hang out with the people there. And, I freaking LOVE Irma! She is totally Betty White in my head. I would 100% recommend this book to everyone!
Loved the way the author developed the storyline! She did an amazing job of building the characters too. There is romance, tragedy, murder and mystery which made it a page turner!!
This is the first book I have read by Catherine Cowles and it won’t be the last! This book was amazing! I can’t tell you how many times my eyes filled up with tears or the laugh out loud moments. This book will have you so attached to each of the characters. You will fall in love with them all. Your heart will break for Carter and Taylor but don’t worry it will be put back together. I didn’t want to put the book down. I devoured this book quickly.
Run… Grab this book… You Will Not Be Sorry!!!!
So much grief, sadness, anxiety and love in the pages of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word. The writing had me on the edge of my seat and sobbing into my pillow a few times. Emotions are rife in my heart right now.
Taylor is grief stricken and running away from life, friends and any emotion. She wants to live a solitary life after losing her Mother. Pushing everyone away made me want to shout at her. She has a fabulous set up in Sutter Lake; Walker and all of his family are simply wonderful, why not accept their love?
Walker. What can I say about this super sexy cop? He is everything. I’d keep him in an instant; him and his quirky family.
This is my first book by Catherine Cowles but I kinda need to see if there are any more books from the characters of Sutter Lake.
Five + “Your beautifully broken pieces are mine” Stars
ARC kindly provided by Catherine and I’m leaving an honest review
‘We are two broken people, whose pieces magically fit together to make something beautiful and new.’ — Tamsyn Bester
I’ve been writing and rewriting my review because I don’t know how to put in words that will say and express how much I loved and adored this book. I was hooked from page one, couldn’t put it down and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the setting – scenery and that it was written in dual POV. Catherine’s storytelling is powerful, amazing and captivating with so much depth and heart. It was well written and well developed. What I loved about this story is that it wasn’t just about love but also about grief, loss, family, friendship, learning how to move on and live again after losing close to you person. It’s about knowing that they are still part of you, even though they are no longer present. I love the way Catherine portrays grief, self-doubt, how we can see both characters’ development through the book, individually and together, how they are dealing with grief and how gradually they are falling in love.
Beautifully Broken Pieces is the first book in interconnected The Sutter Lake series. It’s about Taylor, Carter’s friend from her debut novel Further to Fall, and Walker, Deputy Chief in Sutter Lake. Taylor is loving and caring but after the grief she’s experiencing she just wants to be left alone. She’s feeling so vulnerable and doesn’t know how to start living again. She decides Sutter Lakes will be her new beginning and a fresh start. Walker isn’t unknown to pain and grief, having experienced them himself. He is a cop – a small town Deputy Chief. He is charming, loving, caring, funny but also a bit damaged and vulnerable.
“We’re not broken just bent
and we can learn to love again”

Amazing love story
Taylor and Walker are two damaged souls, who experienced grief. They are both trying to start fresh and live again. What I loved about them is that they are both flawed and complex characters. From the moment they met there is an undeniable attraction and sparks fly whenever they are near each other or together. They click and they simply understand each other. They don’t want to be attracted to each other, but they are, and Walker slowly starts breaking down Taylor’s walls she put up to protect herself and her heart. The only thing Taylor wanted was to be left alone, but Walker wouldn’t let her. With the help of his family she started to break out of her shell and to feel like her former self. I loved their banter and interaction; their conversations and the way they were so at ease with each other once Taylor started to trust him and got to know him. They are each other’s match. I love how protective Walker was of her and the way he never gave up on them. The epilogue was amazing and I never wanted it to end.
Beside Walker and Taylor, you will fall in love with secondary characters, Walker’s family and especially Walker’s grandma who is such an amusing character and Walker’s nephew Noah who is one adorable, cute and smart kid.
I can’t wait for the next one. Take a chance and read this book, you will not regret it or be disappointed.

Beautifully Broken Pieces
Catherine Cowles
Thank you, Catherine Cowles. Books like Beautifully Broken Pieces are the reason why I love to read.
Beautifully Broken Pieces is the first book of the Sutter Lake series, that has four books, and is the second book by Catherine Cowles. As far as I know, Austin, Carter, Liam and Taylor are characters from Further to Fall, her first book, that I haven’t read yet. Reading Further to Fall before is not necessary. But if you love BBP as much as I do, you’ll want more Catherine Cowles in your lives.
The book did a great job as a first in a series because it introduces a beautiful place with alluring townspeople and visitor.
Four characters caught my attention, Jensen, Liam, Tessa and Tuck. I’d bet they’ll be the protagonists of the upcoming books. Tay Tay and Walker are lovely and realistic.
In fact, the whole book is believable. The pace was excellent. Being a mystery book, things could have gone bad, but didn’t. The romance was not dimmed. The plot twists were not falses, the killer was not fanciful. I thought it was natural.
I didn’t want to stop reading and at the same time didn’t want it to end. Catherine wrote a brilliant book.
Thank you for generously providing me this ARC in exchange of a honest review.

Beautifully Broken Pieces
Catherine Cowles
Obrigada, Catherine Cowles.
Não é necessário ler Further to Fall antes. Mas se vocês amarem BBP tanto quanto eu, vão querer mais Catherine Cowles em suas vidas.
O livro se saiu muito bem como o primeiro de uma série, pois apresenta um lugar lindo com habitantes e um visitante atraentes.
Quatro personagens chamaram a minha atenção, a Jensen, o Liam, a Tessa e o Tuck.

Walker and Taylor’s journey was a bumpy one. Taylor was quickly becoming a shell of woman after her Mom dies. She pushes everyone away in an attempt to shield herself from any more pain. Walker has his own demons and is sure his life will be without his other half after a grisly murder. The coming together of the two is a journey of tears, family, friends and a murderer on the loose. The ending will have your jaw dropping and saying – whoa – did not expect that! Great storytelling with strong characters. Looking forward to stories about Liam, Jensen and Tess! Catherine is now on my must read authors list!
This was a fantastic book that I couldn’t put down. This is my first Catherine Cowles book, but I am so looking forward to more books from her and about Sutter Lake. This story of two people who have experienced loss; one who has somewhat overcome and moved on with their life and the other who is just stuck, never wanting anyone to get too close, in fear of loosing them. Somehow though, these two people met each other, and found in the other person the strength that was needed to move on with their lives, never forgetting who they lost, but being in the moment and living for the future.
This was a breathtakingly beautiful love story. For this to just be the author’s second book is just amazing. She shows a maturity and depth in her writing ability that could easily be seen as a writer with much more experience. I fell completely in love with her first book, Further To Fall and was so excited to see those characters back in this book. This time had Taylor, Carter’s best friend, finding her happy ending. Seeing Austin again and especially Liam, made this book mean that much more. It begins with Taylor living with a pain so deep it doesn’t seem possible she will make it to her happily ever after. After losing several people myself, I am acutely aware of what that feels like. Because of that I can say the author portrayed that pain and Taylor’s journey through that in a very authentic way. Once she meets Walker, the deputy chief of Sutter Lake, her journey truly begins. I loved his determination and a heart that never gives up. Adoration flowed freely for his family and I look forward to seeing them again in future books, I hope. This wasn’t just a love story but a mystery as well. A darkness has crept into Sutter Lake that had me desperately trying to figure out who was behind it all. The tension slowly built throughout the book until I wasn’t reading fast enough and certainly wasn’t putting this book down until the mystery was solved. Another thing that drew my heart straight in was one phrase repeated that was so simple but so powerful. “You’re mine.” and “I’m yours”. And just when I thought I wouldn’t cry, the ending was so perfect, I was crying in earnest. I can’t wait for Catherine Cowles’ next book and the one after that, etc. Picking this book up will bring enjoyment and immense satisfaction. Most of all, it provides realistic hope for anyone who has experienced loss and struggles to move forward.
BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN PIECES
(Sutter Lake Book 1)
By Catherine Cowles
4 .5
Release Date February 25, 2019
This story was beautifully written. Two souls, Walker and Taylor have both suffered heartbreak. Despite both fighting their feelings and attraction towards each other ,they undeniably fall hard.
“I love you. You snuck in and stole my goddamned heart, but I hope you never give it back.
If you have read Further to Fall then you have been introduced to Taylor’s character although it isn’t necessary to read as this is a standalone in a new series.
“You’re mine. I’m yours.”
Both Taylor and Walker’s characters were likeable. You felt their love, pain, happiness and everything else in between. I love how Walker never gave up on Taylor even as she tried pushing him away. His strength and passion was just a couple things I admired.
“…all your beautifully broken pieces are mine.”
Overall, this heartwarming story had plenty of suspense, sweetness and love. I definitely recommend this book! Thank you to Catherine for gifting me an arc through a giveaway on Facebook.
Taylor has had her world shattered with the loss of her mom. Her best friends, Carter, Austin and Liam, finally convince her to get away with them to Sutter Lake. Doesn’t take long until she realizes this might be just the place to try and heal her broken heart. Walker is a local lawman who has had his heart broken in the past. Can these two heal their broken pieces?
Catherine Cowles made me laugh, cry and absolutely fall in love with Walker and Taylor as well as the rest of the Cole family. This story has the perfect mix of romance and mystery. The author does a great job of grabbing you from the beginning and keep you all the way to the end. I love her style and can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
This one was out of the park amazing. This is the second book I have read from Catherine and she has me hooked wanting more. Taylor and her friends come to Sutter Lake for a vacation.Taylor is dealing with something very tragedy and wants some space to figure things out. She decides to stay. Walker just wants to be a friend and help her. But will someone take their new romance away from them? I love Taylor. She is so strong through everything when if she does want to run when it gets hard.Walker is so sweet and lovable. I believe the perfect person for Taylor. Exciting twist in this one that you definitely don’t see coming . Catherine had me from chapter 1 to the very end.
This is a wonderful story that I couldn’t put down once I started. I really enjoyed watching Taylor and Walker’s story develop.
This is a book I would highly recommend to anyone.
An ARC of this was kindly given to me by the author. This is the first book I’ve read of hers and definitely plan on reading all of the other books she has written.
One of the joys of reading and reviewing is the access to so many amazing indie authors I never would have found otherwise, and Catherine Cowles is the latest and brightest shining star in indie publishing that I’ve come across recently. The heartfelt depth and the vast array of emotions she evokes left me stunned, spellbound and breathless. From feeling like a knife had been driven through my heart to so much happiness I thought my heart would burst, and everything in between, this book touched my soul so profoundly that I will forever be imprinted with these characters.
The dedication for this book devastated me and the prologue gutted me, so I knew this was going to be an unparalleled experience. I rarely get emotional when reading a book, even those deemed “ugly cry” by others, but this one hits so close to home that, were I a writer, I could have written much of the sentiment myself. This is a story of loss, grief, pain and fear, but also of healing, hope, courage and new beginnings. It takes the reader from the darkest of lows with the raw, jagged pain abrading her heart, to the spectacularly stunning highs of acceptance, contentment and peace that all bathe the heart in the most beautiful of lights. As if that’s not enough, Cowles then adds in well-timed humor, past-relationship conflict, nail-biting drama and intense suspense with shocking twists that make it impossible to set this book aside.
Taylor has lost her mother after a long battle with illness. Her friends mean well, but Taylor is weary of the careful comments and their pity-filled gazes, so while on vacation with them, she decides to stay in the small mountain town of Sutter Lake. She’s so tired of hurting, and she thinks life will be easier to endure alone. At least she won’t have to worry about losing anyone else she loves. But in hardening her heart to avoid another loss, she fails to see that she’s robbing herself of the love and soul-deep connections with people who really matter to her.
Walker Cole knowns a thing or two about loss. His childhood friend, high school sweetheart and fiancée was murdered several years ago and, as a police officer, her unsolved case still haunts him. Sure, after all this time, he dates, but at the first hint of serious he ends it. He doesn’t think anyone will ever take Julie’s place, until the feisty, stubborn, “short-stack” of a gal moves into his family’s rental cabin and manages to get under his skin. But he sees the fear behind her beautiful eyes and those mile-high walls she’s erected and vows to take things slowly.
I can’t find the words to express this book’s immense impact, nor can I begin to do it justice. It will have poignant resonance with anyone who has experienced loss and offer keen insight about the process of healing grief and moving forward. Cowles’ competency in capturing emotions with words is unexpected and her ability to breathe life into a story is a true gift. I was so impressed with her work that I immediately bought the previous book and started reading it. This book has many elements, all done exceptionally well – romance, steamy chemistry, fantastic secondary characters, drama and suspense – that it’s guaranteed to delight any reader’s heart! Get your 1-Click (and highlighting) finger ready, and don’t miss the chance to start experiencing this phenomenal book that will fill your heart, touch your soul, and offer hope. For my part, I’ll be eagerly anticipating this author’s next release and sending her a great, big return hug. 😉
I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
Catherine Cowles did it again with another phenomenal and captivating book. If you read Further to Fall you are introduced to Taylor I’m that book as Carter’s best friend. In this book you get to read about her struggles to cope after her mom passed away and builds a new life in a new town with the deputy chief, Walker Cole, of the police department of the small town and someone the whole town adores. Walker’s eccentric grandma will make you laugh with her schemes and lack of filter.
Sutter Home is a usually sleepy town that gets hit with a serial killer. With that comes unexpected turns and Walker with the help of his best friend Tucker do everything they can to keep their town safe and bring justice to whoever is killing the innocent women.
This book will warm your heart and keep you wanting to know what happens next especially when there are more killings and they get more personal.
Wow! Five HUGE stars!
I can’t believe this is only Catherine Cowles second book. I’m in love with her style of writing. Every word built a compelling romance and the suspense of the storyline had me rushing to find out who was the villian. I never once figured out who that was until it was revealed. I love a love story/mystery combination, especially when the plot isn’t rushed but instead just unfolds at the perfect pace. I can’t wait to see how Catherine grows as a writer because she’s already brilliant.
My first book by Catherine Cowles and it definitely won’t be my last.
Love small town romances and love this book so much.
After the lost of her dear mother and a vacation to a small mountain town, Taylor finds the perfect place to escape and be alone.
Walker is the handsome town cop. After a tragic loss he doesn’t think he can get a second chance at love again.
This book is beautifully written. It’s emotional and you could feel Taylor’s grief for the loss of her mother and why she didn’t want anyone close to her.
Good storyline, love the secondary characters and the suspense and mystery is just how I love my books. Can’t wait to read more of this series.
Small town romance filled will 1 hero that does not take no for answer, 1 sassy heroine that has built enormous walls around her heart. Oh my can you say swoon worthy, because that is exactly what this book is filled with. This is not a quick read, this is a read that you will savor. Each page you read you will get pulled further and further into the lives of the residents of Sutter Lake.
Taylor is our heroine who has suffered a great loss in her life. She feels it is easier to not let anyone in than to live her life. Walker our hero has also suffered loss, but refuses to let Taylor push him away. The banter and chemistry between the two will have you flipping through the pages. You can add a little mystery to the fold and you have an awesome book. I know this may not seem like much of a review, but that’s because a) I don’t want to give anything away AND b) I want you to be able to immerse yourself into their lives. Their feelings will come to life for you, and you will be able to feel exactly what they feel.
I am looking forward to more of this series. I can not wait to see who all gets their stories told.. The secondary characters.
