This book grabs you from the opening line and never lets go. Catherine takes us on an emotional journey of loss, heartache, redemption, recovery and love. Walker and Taylor come from two different worlds yet both are suffering, ultimately needing to find each other to repair the unrepairable. This novel, however, is so much more – introducing the town of Sutter Lake along with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense, it keeps you tied up emotionally all the way to the last line. A truly terrific read.
This is my first book by Ms. Cowles and holy moly! She will from now on without a doubt be a one click no synopsis read kinda of author from me. I was blown away and then some while reading this book! And I will forever be a fan girl from here on out! I have been in kind of a funk in 2019. I’ll find something I like and then five books I can’t get into. I picked this book up and fell instantly in love with with Walker and Taylor. It was so so so what I needed! I fell into this book and didn’t leave until the end. I fell for these characters so hard. But not only them, the other characters too. I can’t wait for more stories for all the characters I’ve come to love. Add in a little mystery to this story and you’ve got this girl hooked and just omg!! Fall in love, laugh and cry, and get ready for one amazing read by one amazing author!!!
This book was a beautifully written story. All the characters are lovable or at least likeable. The pain in Taylor is heartfelt and the love Walker has for her is so strong. You will find youreself pulling for them from the beginning. The twist had me. Didn’t see it coming and I love that. This book kept me interested from page one.
So I finished this one a few days ago, and I still am blown away at how stunning this story was. While there were times you really wanted to smack Taylor, you honestly cannot because everyone grieves differently. I adored Taylor. She has sass but she is so broken. She needed this time to mend. But then you have Walker. Oh my swoon Walker. He was just absolutely stunning and I want one of my own. Their pull was beautiful. Their love was broken but it came together in such an epic way. Then you add the twists. I think this is where my jaw dropped and fell in love with these characters even more. I was in awe at this suspense aspect of this story! I had chills as things came to a head. Trying to wrap my head around how everything played out!!! I was honestly at a loss for words.
Overall, this is one book that you HAVE to read. I loved every single moment of it as it gives you passion, heartbreak and spine chilling suspense! Then that ending! It was jaw dropping. Cowles has an amazing way with words that will wrap you up into the world she has created and you honestly cannot put it down. I am really looking forward to more. Especially with how things played out! This small town packs a punch! If you have not read this author, do it now!
Awesome book, loved every page. Great read
Do yourself a favor and one click this beauty! Beautifully Broken Pieces is just that, a novel about two beautifully broken people that find their way to each other, and find a love that neither one of them can ignore. While discovering that love, Walker and Taylor will be tested time and time again. This book will take you through the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, but that is what makes it a must read. Catherine Cowles has cemented herself as one of my favorite authors, and I won’t hesitate to one click anything she releases. Thank you for Beautifully Broken Pieces, and I know I can speak for the rest of your fans when I say we can’t wait for more Sutter Lake!
I will shout it from the rooftops on how much I freakin loved this book by this new to me author. I was hooked from the very first page and hated to see it end. Taylor and Walker had been through so much individually and together they healed each other. I loved everything about this book and I would highly recommend to all. This book right here is a top read of 2019 for me and if you all haven’t read it yet…grab it today. You will not be disappointed. I can’t wait to read the next book in this wonderful series….well done!!
309 pages in under 24 hours. I couldn’t put this book down. Catherine is a new to me author and I must say, I am now a total fan!
This book had me from the beginning. I forget how much I love romantic suspense for the first time in a long time, the book had me thrown! I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I was left shocked.
I felt deeply for the pain of both Taylor and Walker. The author’s descriptions put you right there with those two and you felt their pain. A tear or two may have fallen while I was reading this.
I can not wait for more from the Sutter Lake Series!
Another incredible book with such fantastic characters, I’ve fallen in love with Taylor and Walker! I was hooked from the very first page. I really loved seeing Cater, Austin and Liam making an apperance in the book (read Further to Fall). I absolutely love the delicate way Catherine has explored a heartbreaking topic. Be warned this book will cause frustration, sadness, happiness and every other emotion but it’s worth it!!
The Cole Family was one loving and wonderful bunch of people. I could easily understand Taylor having difficulty resisting them especially Walker. I enjoyed Beautifully Broken Pieces because of the family dynamics and their interactions with Taylor. Walker and Taylor was a great couple. Lovely bantering and chemistry. Taylor dealing with the loss of her mother wasn’t easy but thankfully the Cole Family was there trying to break down her walls. Taylor and Walker’s little sister Jensen developed a friendship and the mysterious Tessa caught my eye as well. Walker could vent to his womanizing buddy Tuck, and I have feeling I know who will be his match. Can’t wait to find out. So what made me struggle a little was the plot which came off as tedious. If it would have been solved sooner the pace of the story would have flowed better. Despite that I enjoyed this first book of The Sutter Lake series and can’t wait to read Tessa’s book.
3.5 Short-cake Stars
I wasn’t expecting this story! Taylor has a lot of healing to get through, and her emotional journey includes both friendships and of course falling in love. Walker has been going through his healing journey for a longer period of time, but he, too, has an emotional friendship and family journey to go through in the course of falling in love.
I absolutely adored the personalities of not only Taylor & Walker, but of the supporting characters as well! The timing, the pacing, the mystery & everything going on w/ the story that will lead into the following stories in the series – all made for an enjoyable read! We get laughter, tears, steam & adventure. Looking forward to more in the series!! : )
I really enjoyed this book by another new to me author, Catherine Cowles. Just the title itself and the beautiful cover grabbed my attention. Beautifully Broken Pieces is a story of Taylor Lawson trying to find some peace and solitude after the heartbreaking loss of her mother and finding it in small town Sutter Lake. As much as she tried to isolate herself, the Cole family makes this very difficult. Since she is renting a cabin on their land, she can’t seem to keep to herself. Things get more complicated with the attraction she feels towards the local police officer, Walker Cole. Walker Cole is also feeling the pull of Taylor, but he too has suffered a tremendous loss that he has not quite gotten over. Even though he was dating someone, he is ready to break it off, she wants more than he is able to give. But in Taylor he sees a kindred spirit, but seeing that she is not ready for more he decides they would be great friends. However, the more time they spend with each other it becomes more and more difficult to keep in the friend zone.
While the two grow closer, there is something sinister going around town. There have been hikers who has gone missing and later found dead. The suspense surrounding these deaths definitely kept me on my toes, and the final conclusion was truly a shocker.
Even though I really did love this story, there were moments with Taylor that got to be too much for me. The push and pull with Walker I didn’t enjoy as much. I totally understand she was grieving and didn’t want the chance to lose someone again, but I didn’t like how she treated Walker at one point.
Overall, this really was a great love story with a wonderful epilogue.
Grieving the loss of her mother, Taylor agrees to go on a getaway with some friends to the middle of nowhere, Oregon. Trying to find herself and her purpose, and trying to get some space from everyone trying to help her, she decides to stay in Sutter Lake for a short time. Walker, a lifelong resident of Sutter Lake, has been through some tragedies and has his heart locked away…never to find love again.
Beautifully Broken Pieces, written by the wonderful author Catherine Cowles, is such an amazing storyline…one filled with heartache, fate, friendships, love, and loss. I loved the way the author wrote this story, and the characters are all so perfect! There are twists and turns, and healing, and tragedy. I loved the humor and the flow of this book. It was just wrapped up all so well! This is the first book in the new Sutter Lake series written by Catherine, and I am REALLY looking forward to the next book release! I highly recommend this one! 5-stars!
This is my second book by Catherine and I loved it. It was very emotional and I would cry in bits and parts. You have Taylor who is running from life and everyone in it. Then you have Walker who is a hot cop but also very sweet along with his family. Walker is there for her because he too has had loss and he sees it in her. He stays by her side at all times..
If you love a swoony romance and hot chemistry check this book out you will fall in love with Tay and Walker.
Catherine Cowles is a new-to-me author. I picked up this book at the recommendation of a friend, and I’m so glad that I did. Beautifully Broken Pieces was very enjoyable for me.
Taylor recently relocated to the town of Sutter Lake, Oregon. She’s had a rough few years and just wants some solitude. She ends up taking a job at a little tea store and rents a cabin from the woman who owns it, Jensen. Taylor gets to know Jensen’s brother, Walker, a police officer, and their chemistry is immediate, and they decide to start things slowly.
There is quite a bit of suspense and a little mystery found throughout the story, which added a different element for me. The writing was good, the plot developed well, and the characters were likeable. I definitely recommend Beautifully Broken Pieces, and I can’t wait for Liam’s and Tessa’s story!
Beautifully Broken Pieces was my first time reading a book by this author, but it will not be my last. This was book 1 in the Sutter Lake Series and I can not wait to read more of these books! I absolutely loved these characters and can not wait to find out more of their stories. I also learned that Further to Fall is Carter’s story so I will be running over to one click that book ASAP!
This book follows Taylor and how she is trying to put her life back together after losing her mother. On a getaway with some friends Taylor falls in love with the peace and quiet of a little middle of no where town and decides it is just the change she needs. However, her plan to keep to herself and not let anyone in is not working out the way she intended if the Cole family has anything to say about it.
Walker Cole has dealt with a great lose himself and isn’t looking for any kind of long term relationship. However, when he meets Taylor he instantly feels protective over her.
This book was one that had me hooked from start to finish. There is heartbreak, mystery, suspense, drama and some serious chemistry between the characters. I had to keep reading because I was dying to know what was going to happen next.
This is a must read book for sure! You will not be disappointed. – By Alisa
This book was wonderful. The writing was beautiful and the story had many twists that really kept it interesting. The characters were likable and relatable, and you truly wanted to root for the characters and fostered a sense of engagement in the story that some authors have trouble creating. Taylor has spent the last few years looking after her mom, technically all the family she has in the world, and when she passes away, Taylor is bereft. Her friends finally convince her to go on vacation with them to a quiet town for some rest and recharging. Taylor comes to love the solitude and decides to stay. Walker, the local deputy chief of police, is hot and has decided that he wants to get to know Taylor better. Taylor has other ideas; she has long since promised herself that she is not going to let anyone into her heart ever again, the pain of losing is just too great. With Taylor trying to assert her independence, a serial killer on the loose and an overprotective, very attractive police officer trying to break down Taylor’s barriers, this is a wild ride. Enjoy!
I loved Catherine Cowles’ debut romance, Further to Fall, so I was crazy excited to get my hands on Beautifully Broken Pieces, and I am thrilled to share that it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s a tender, steamy and poignant love story with a healthy dose of cleverly-plotted mystery and suspense that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Taylor has just lost her mom when she decides to move to Sutter Lake after vacationing there with her friends. She’s heartbroken and deep in the throes of grief when she meets the town’s sexy and likeable deputy police chief, Walker. He’s also loved and lost someone dear to him and bears the emotional wounds, which makes it easy for him to relate to Taylor and understand what she’s going through. He pursues her with patience and understanding, and he’ll be on many book boyfriend lists this year. I can’t wait to read more from Catherine Cowles.
This is my first book by Catherine Cowles and it is my favorite book so far this year!!!!!Taylor is a woman with a broken heart and her friends take her on a trip to Oregon to cheer her up and she decides to stay. She meets Walker and his family and they treat her like family.Walker is a cop investing a sting of Murders and falls for Taylor. They have to stay a live to be together. Can’t wait to read more!!!!!!!
This is the second book by Catherine Cowles. It can be read as a standalone but we meet the heroine, Taylor, in the first book “Further To Fall” (which was very good, also!). Taylor is grieving and feeling suffocated by her well-meaning friends. She decides to take some time for herself and finds a temporary home in Sutter Lake, OR. An evil lurks around the quiet town which makes the Deputy Chief, Walker Cole, extra protective of Taylor. Just when you think you have the answers, BAM!, an extra twist. 🙂 This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.
