A woman trying to rebuild her life. Kennedy is doing all she can to escape, to prove that she’s not the monster her father was. A simple life of peace and service is all she needs. A man haunted by a past he can’t forget. Cain has buried his demons under layers of control and success. The only thing he needs is his company and his solitude. Certainly not a woman with captivating green eyes filled … captivating green eyes filled with ghosts so similar to his own.
He’s a reminder of the life she’s left behind. And she’s a threat to his tightly guarded control. As sparks fly between them, they discover that what they might need most is each other.
But with pasts like theirs…you never know when darkness might descend.

I was granted an ARC for a digital review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is Catherine Cowles best work. Tuck you have be dethroned. I know it’s tragic, but Cain is imperfectly perfect for me!
Kennedy Barrington was born into a well to do family. Unfortunately, she found out that she had been living the past 20 years of her young life living, dining and traveling on others people’s monies. Her father is accused of doing a Ponzi scheme over the course of many years. She decides to go talk to her father while being recorded by the FBI, in order to protect her brother Preston.
Now two years later Kenzie as her employer likes to call her is working in Kettle with Jensen, teaching ballet and volunteering at the local community place. Everything was going perfect until Cain Hale showed up.
Cain Hale has decided to get away from the city life and vacation near his old college buds Walker and Tuck. However, he feels something is off when he meets Kenzie. Thankfully he works with IT security and does his best to find out as much as possible. Will Cain be able to still like Kenzie when he finds the truth out about her? Will Kenzie be able to get past Cain thick walls of his past?
It was so hard to write this review without giving away too much. Kenzie and Cain were perfect for one another. The gratitude jars Kenzie talked about doing, as there is always a positive with every day. Even when we think we can’t find one, we can if we just think of the little things. Cain is the broken hero every girl wants to heal with love and affection.
I highly recommend this book. It has twists and turn and will make you guess and guess again as to who the bad person really is. You don’t have to read the rest of the books in this series before this one, unless you really want to be on top of it.
Beautifully Broken Control is a mixture of strength, determination and heartfelt moments. The words flowed and the story line was well thought out. I can wait to see what’s next!
Catherine Cowles has done it again. Beautifully Broken Control was the perfect conclusion to the Sutter Lake series. I’m so incredibly sad that it’s over, but it was such a pleasure to read.
We follow Kennedy, who hides her past from those around her. And while this has been going well for her so far, the peace that she’s found in Sutter Lake may be threatened by Cain. Our hero is an expert computer hacker with a fierce need to protect his friends, even from Kennedy who is an enigma to him. But Cain lives with his own demons that he keeps under lock and key. Their relationship is a slow build process requiring each to earn the other’s trust. But what a beautiful thing it is when both decide to go all in.
I cannot reccomend BBC enough! I cannot recommend the Sutter Lake series enough! If you haven’t read these books You Have To!!
Wow!
Catherine did not disappoint with this one! What we have come to know and love with her previous stories can be seen/read with this one as well. I loved every page of this one. (Hint – join her newsletter for a bonus scene.)
Kennedy is on the run from someone or something and Cain wants to know the who and/or the why. He wants to protect her and spoil her. He even claims to know someone who can loan her a car since she bikes everywhere. Ya… he doesn’t know anyone like that… He just wants her to be safe. And this is after he barely knows her. Kennedy is attracted to him but doesn’t believe she deserves happiness.
Both of them have been hurt badly in the past. Can these two heal each other?
I highly recommend this one!!
Catherine Cowles, how do you do it? How do you draw us into your stories every time and have us so invested in each character? Grab some tissues, get comfortable and get ready to open your heart to Cain and Kennedy. These two have went through so much hurt by so many people that I wanted to jump into the pages and hug them both. I loved them. There were a lot of ‘wow, that really didn’t just happen moments!’ Surprises by who the enemies were. I didn’t want to put this book down. I am so glad these two got their happily ever after and that we seen so much of the other characters from Sutter Lake. Loved it! This author gets better with each page, each book she writes. I loved the whole gratitude jar and write down what you are thankful for. That really hit home. So many things to be thankful for. Oh, and PLEASE don’t miss out on the Bonus Scene. The Best! Thank you for sharing your stories with us Catherine Cowles.
What a beautiful book. Cain and Kennedy’s story is amazing!!
Catherine is an talented storyteller and this book beautifully written.
Love Kennedy! She is amazing. She is sweet, smart, feisty and sassy. My heart broke for her and everything she went through. She did everything she could to correct the wrongs of something that was not her fault.
But I’m so glad she found her “family” in Sutter lake.
Cain..omg I wanted to hug him. He’s very protective because of a heartbreaking past. He doesn’t let anyone in and he doesn’t love.
Together these two broken and lonely people will find each other. They are each other’s soulmate.
Love the epilogue and the bonus scene had me swooning.
Sad that this is the last book in the amazing series.
A very beautiful ending to an amazing series.
My Rating: STARS!!
The Sutter Lake Series is one of my favorite book series ever and I was so sad to see it come to an end but it ended on such a good note. Kennedy and Cain are one of my favorite charterers Catherine has written and I love how past characters always return in each book. Her stories captivate you from the very beginning, and then when there over you’re left wanting more. The way she mixes in a little suspense with romance is incredible and another reason why I love her books so much. All her books are fabulous but this one here might be the best one yet.
Due to a past tragedy that eats at his soul, and a company he’s scraped and fought to build, Cain Hale is a fixer and a protector. When he meets Kennedy Charles, she ticks all his boxes without even trying. No, the skittish, generous, unassuming Kennedy, who chooses a life a step above impoverished, would rather Cain just leave her alone and not look too deeply into her past. But there’s that undeniable pull between them, and when someone from Kennedy’s past shows up, Cain may have to turn his demons loose.
Ahhh, this book! I don’t have the words to express how special and amazing it is. Although a sophomore novelist, Cowles brings to life beautifully broken, complex and unforgettable characters, along with an intricate, captivating storyline, equal to books by authors with decades of experience, and it is magic. Pure magic! With poignant and compelling themes of grief, healing, love and gratitude, this story sweeps the reader off her feet and takes her on a deeply emotional journey.
In one scene, Kennedy is thinking about having to tell her employer and friend, Jensen, about her past, afraid Jenson will look at her differently. And I’m here thinking, “Aw, sweetie, no she won’t. You don’t know Jensen like we do.” And that’s the power and wizardry of Cowles’ writing, making her characters so unique and vibrant that the readers know and understand them, often even better than the living, breathing people in our lives outside of books. There are so many moments like this in this book, that make me think, and have a way of burrowing deep in my heart, and this writer’s innate beauty and goodness shine through in every word.
If you’re looking for a fairly new writer who has incredible talent and a bright, promising career that you can follow for years to come, look no further. Easily her best work yet, I’m excited to see what the future brings and what fabulous stories have yet to be told by this gifted wordsmith. These characters are truly unforgettable, and their story deserves far more than five stars. This one goes on my list of top reads for the year and I highly recommend you start reading it today. Your life won’t be the same once Kennedy and Cain own a piece of your heart.
This was amazing! Kennedy and Cain stole my heart! Cain was so relatable in the way he hid the grief of his past and watching Kenz work through her guilt was just beautiful. The amount of love and gratitude in this story made me think of all the amazing things I am grateful for. Cathrine Cowles writing style is so amazing to boot, easy to follow and paints a beautiful picture in your mind of the feeling happening in each scene. I can’t wait to dive into all of her books that I haven’t added to my book list yet.
I can’t believe Sutter Lake has come to an end, but Cain and Kennedy were the perfect final addition to this amazing hand-picked family.
I loved Kennedy when she was introduced in BBS, but nothing could have prepared me for the heartache she had to face. She very much deserved the family she ends up with! Her feistiness was icing on the cake… I just love that girl!
Cain makes my heart just want to burst. His need to protect those he cares about, added to the constant pain he feels makes me want to hug him and never stop. I may have yelled at him a time or two for his poor communication, but he came through in the end!
This series, these people… Catherine Cowles nailed it again!! Happy reading!
I am crying right now, tears of happiness and my heart is so full of love that I think it could burst. Catherine Cowels just writes perfectly beautiful words and reaches my soul. I need to move to Sutter Lake and meet these people and be a part of their lives; because they are so real to me.
Kennedy had me loving her from the first page. My heart hurt for her and I’m so glad she found herself in the care of these people.
Cain is one clever, sexy, overprotective, broken man. He is so lovable that I want to lick… I mean HUG him. He says all the right things but in the wrong way a lot of the time, with no explanation! If he’d just do one big, revealing, rip the bandaid off, explanation things would be easier, but NO! That’s too hard for him, but I still adored him.
I’m a big fan of this series and I knew that Cain had an awesome story to tell. Watching these characters develop from the first book to this one has been a real joy. Once you start one of Ms Cowles books you get hooked. The words draw you in and keep you riveted to the pages. The characters make you fall in love with them and make you want to know every aspect of their lives. Cain’s pain was like a living breathing thing. I hurt for him. Kennedy broke my heart reading her story too. When two broken souls find each other it’s a pleasure, it’s hard to describe but these two made me smile and cry. I loved the way they fell in love and am so happy to see them move forward and to see them find joy again was amazing. Now I’m wondering g who’s next. Hmmm lol.
The Best Book Hangover
I truly savored reading this one knowing it was the end to Sutter Lake. I will say this was freaking amazing!!! I loved Cain and Kennedy!!
I was shocked by the fact it has an age gap in it! Didn’t bother me one bit, but a pleasant troupe type surprise. For those looking for their troupe niche…. this is a small town, slow burn, age gap and romantic suspense. So freaking good!!
Both Cain and Kennedy come from a dark and troubled paths and are trying to start fresh in Sutter Lake.
Catherine Cowles can write a story that truly pulls at your heart strings and absolutely drag you into the story. This was beautiful and I was obsessed from the beginning.
“ But we can’t erase our pasts. They make us who we are. And, often, it’s the ugly parts that lead to the most beauty.”
A beautiful Read that shows us that beauty sometimes comes from the ugliest pasts.
The Sutter Lake Series is definitely one of my favorites ever! I know I’ll be re reading these books very soon! I really love this place.
These characters have a special place in my heart! Every single book has been amazing, touching, beautiful, however, Beautifully Broken Control is the best yet! I loved every single word Catherine Cowles wrote! She has this power to make you fall in love so easily with the story, and the characters, it’s unreal.
After finishing this beauty, My emotions are all over the place, one moment am angry and then I’m crying! That’s what she does with every book and I love it!
Cain and Kennedy have this energy, this relationship that I cannot stop thinking about. He is so damn perfectly imperfect, I can’t help but love him!!!!!
And Kennedy is just so beautiful and strong woman, they are the perfect match!
This is one of the bests books I’ve read in a long time!
Can’t wait for the world to meet Cain and Kennedy
Cain and Kennedy are hands down my favorite couple in this series. I’m pretty sure I have said that about every couple but this couple tops them all. Both Cain and Kennedy are hiding from their past and while Kennedy’s past is outed pretty quickly to Cain, his past takes some time and some hurtful words before his secrets are revealed. Everything works outs at the end though for a happily ever after for every couple in the series.
By far, my favorite book of 2020! Catherine Cowles is a master of romantic suspense and Beautifully Broken Control is perfectly blended. Cain and Kennedy gave me all the feels and I didn’t want their story to end. Congratulations Catherine on your newest masterpiece.
This is Catherine Cowles’s best book yet! I never wanted this book to end and savored every second of it. Cain and Kennedy were so beautifully matched up with their broken backgrounds they were hiding from but the present forced it to be dealt with. Both are set in their ways because of their pasts and I loved their journey to finding a way to trust and compromise to make their relationship work. Kennedy and Cain both tugged at my heart strings and I felt everything they went through and by the end of the book was wishing for it not to be over. This book can be read as a stand alone but you get the full effect of it if you read all the Sutter Lake books before hand.
ALL. THE. STARS!!
Catherine has done it again. Beautifully Broken Control was everything I hoped it would be and more. I’m not sure how she manages this, but every book is better than the last. Cain is my new favorite book boyfriend, damaged, haunted but good down to his core. Kennedy, my heart broke for her and everything she went through but she didn’t let the bad tear her down or make her cynical or mean, she did everything in her power to right wrongs and make the world a better place. The real world needs more Kennedy’s. As always Catherine kept me guessing about what was going to happen and how, I stayed on the edge of my seat the whole time and didn’t want to stop reading. The woman is an absolute genius! I hope you love Sutter Lake and all of her amazing characters as much as I did.
I felt the emotions within the first two pages! Catherine Cowles was able to make me feel the powerful emotions that Kennedy went through by the 5th page. The book was powerful! Two souls that were defined by their past and yet it didn’t break them, if anything it showed just how much darkness can bring beauty. I couldn’t put this book down! I want to be strong and graceful like Kennedy and Cain is everything a woman could want, he is the definition of an alpha hero and a good man.
You won’t want to miss what I feel is this authors best work yet!
I have really enjoy this series. All the characters have really gotten under my skin and it will go down as one of my all time favorite series. Kennedy and Cain are both so wounded by their pasts. They are both running and they have both been so alone. This book is about them not only finding each other but finally finding a place where they belong with a family they can turn to. Kennedy is an incredibly selfless person while Cain is just the right amount of overt protective alpha that gets your blood pumping. They are definitely my favorites of all the couples but not by much. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this series.
