Catherine Cowles just keeps getting better and better with her books, I have loved everything she has written so far but this book? This book was EVERYTHING. BBC was so much more than I expected. Cane and Kennedy have my whole heart, this story was about two people who needed to find each other so they could see just how strong they really are.
Cane is a guy who doesn’t get attached, he doesn’t really believe in love and he doesn’t let people in. He is broken and I just wanted to hug him. Kennedy was so strong and just one of the best characters ever written. Kennedy was lost, she didn’t think she deserved happiness nor forgiveness. Cane came into her life to turn it upside down and make her see just how worthy and loved she deserved to be.
This was the conclusion of this epic series, this was such a sweet and beautiful way to end it too. Catherine just made me cry like I didn’t think I would ever cry since reading BBL, but boy did she prove me wrong. This book, this whole series is EPIC and a must read. This is a book you do not want to miss. Cane and Kennedy have my whole heart.
This author has created another story that will live in my heart and mind for a very long time. I was so excited for this book but also dreaded it in the worst way. From the very beginning of this series, I fell completely in love with Sutter Lake and all the family and friends within it. I really didn’t want to say goodbye. If it were an actual place, I would be moving there next week and just pray my family followed.
This book finally tells the story of the mysterious Cain and new to town, Kennedy. Cain became best friends with Walker and Tuck in college and always remained like brothers. I fell in love with both Walker and Tuck, not really able to choose a favorite. But I can certainly say now that Cain has become my number one but then I always fall hard for the mysterious ones. Learning his story was a painful journey. He lost someone very dear to him years ago in a violent way. In the years since, he has kept an ordered world and other than Walker and Tuck, has never let anyone else get a glimpse of his heart much less hope to win it. He is brought to Sutter Lake, needing a quiet and safe place to decompress and work on his business. Working in security, he has built a successful company, becoming very well off. For those few in his life, he will protect them in every way he can which leads to Kennedy.
She was a character that I desperately wanted to find her happy ending. We learn in the very beginning that she came from a very rich family but that fortune came from illegal means. These were activities she never knew about. Once she learns the lie that her family had become, she does what she can to help the authorities before running. By chance, she finds herself in Sutter Lake and working at The Kettle with Jensen. It seems that is the place where all of the female main characters find the start to their second chances. She lives a very simple life where she approaches every day with gratitude and gives back in every way imaginable. Cain’s first impression of her is rather guarded and he goes into protective mode before realizing he is wrong in his judgment.
The circles they go in as they figure if they can trust each other, then become friends and ultimately much more weaved a very enjoyable story. There was passion, intrigue and the perfect amount of angst. By the epilogue, my heart was so full and my spirit felt so light. The author shows us what two years later looks like for each character duo. She tied the perfect bow to this series. I have no doubt I will keep coming back to Sutter Lake and living it all again many times.
I can’t wait to see where Catherine Cowles takes us next!
Beautifully Broken Control… what a book!
Like all of Catherine’s books, it was wonderfully written. The story was so good. I tried to slow down my reading because I didn’t want it to end but I also had to know what was happening! #bookwormproblems
I’m so sad Sutter Lake is over but I can’t wait to see what Catherine has up her sleeve next!
Just when I thought the Sutter Lake Series couldn’t get better here comes Catherine Cowles with Beautifully Broken Control. The reality behind Kennedy’s past is more than I could have ever seen coming. The person she really is is someone so incredibly brave, strong and carrying the biggest of hearts. I just thought I loved Catherine’s previous characters, what I feel for Kennedy is some kind of super love.
Kennedy’s story is emotional, inspiring, moving, and one of the most magnificent romances when it comes to her and Cain. If there were two people who ever deserved to find their happiness more than these two I have yet to encounter them. While they both have dramatically different pasts, the similarities in what they’ve lost seem to bring them even closer with the ability to understand on a different level what they’ve each been through. That’s not to say their road was an easy one. With danger lurking hidden around the corner and emotional scars that need healing Cain and Kennedy work hard to build a relationship and that right there shows just how great their love is.
Beautifully Broken Control is the fourth book in the Sutter Lake series by Catherine Cowles. Every book in this series has been phenomenal, and this one was no exception. Cowles is an excellent writer with books that ooze heartfelt goodness. I was absolutely smitten with every little detail that made up this story.
Twenty two year old Kennedy came to Sutter Lake to escape her past. All she wants is a simple life of peace for her and her dog, Chuck. She settles in well, makes new friends and keeps herself busy with work. She helps Jensen with her shop, teaches children ballet and volunteers at a shelter. But no matter how hard she tries, she is constantly haunted by the sins of her father and all of the lives that he destroyed.
Cain is a smart, wealthy and successful entrepreneur, but he too has a painful past. One that he won’t disclose and keeps buried deep within himself. When there is a security threat at his firm, he has to leave Portland and heads to his hometown of Sutter Lake to spend some time with his two best friends. Only he wasn’t expecting to meet a green-eyed beauty with a past that is so similar to his own.
Overall, I really feel as though Catherine Cowles delivered an addictive, heartfelt, well written, small town romance. I absolutely loved it and simply can’t recommend it enough. Don’t just add this to your TBR, move it up to the top and inhale it quickly yet as slowly as you can. This is one book and series that should be read by everyone.
I can’t get enough of Catherine Cowles Sutter Lake Series. Beautifully Broken Control is everything I expected it to be. Cain and Kennedy come together and despite pasts that they both are running from find themselves falling in love. This book is sweet, charming and gives you enough suspense to have you hooked. This contemporary small town romance is a must read as are the other books in the series.
4.5 stars!
I just love Catherine Cowles’ writing style! What you get in Beautifully Broken Control are two complex characters, Kennedy and Cain who are trying to put their horrific pasts behind and end up finding their way to each other in Sutter Lake. Sutter Lake is the place of all places for love to take place and that’s what I truly love about this whole series. Each couple has their own demons they have to deal with and it turns out that LOVE is all that they really need.
Cain is a broken man and for a minute, I didn’t think Kennedy would get through to him but she did! I loved Cain’s over protectiveness as well. I mean, he has ALPHA-MALE written all over him and I loved every minute of their exchange together! Kennedy is a bad ass for all that she went through and I take my hat off to her as she had a very hard decision to make before she left her hometown which ended up destroying her family.
If you are looking for a hot but sweet, romantic suspense that takes place near a beautiful lake, this book is for you!

Beautifully Broken Control is the fourth novel in the Sutter Lake series by Catherine Cowles and once again she blows it out of the water. From the words, the town, the story, the title, the cover, all of it! Tops the top again!
Kennedy has been in Sutter Falls for a few months, working at The Kettle. She lives minimally and is trying to get used to making new friends.
Cain decides it’s time for a vacation and some time away from the city. So to Sutter Lake he goes. The third party to Walker and Tuck’s trio, he knows he has family in Sutter Lake.
When Kennedy and Cain meet he is sure he should stay away, she knows better than to get attached. The chemistry is off the charts, Cain’s protective instinct making no sense. But can they find some common ground, be friends?
Catherine Cowles hit it out of the park with the final novel in the Sutter Lake series! Cain was amazing and Kennedy was too! I cannot wait for more from Catherine Cowles!!
What a great story! So much emotion! Two people with scars trying to find their way.
I loved this book. I don’t believe I’ve yet to read a Cowles book I didn’t enjoy. We follow Kennedy, as she makes a new life for herself at the Kettle, and Cain, as he runs to Sutter Lake to escape his past. Despite their age difference, they find they are both battling their past. I really enjoyed reading both Kennedy and Cain’s characters. There was plenty of sweet romance, chemistry, and also suspenseful plot. I’m beginning to think the small town Sutter Lake is not as idyllic as it seems.
Cain and Kennedy will completely still your hearts! This couple have both been traumatized by their past and it changes both of them. Such a beautiful story of overcoming your past and letting someone in that is just as damaged as you and finding peace within yourself and each other so you can have a beautiful life. This one tugs at your heart.
Catherine’s writing draws you in and just keeps getting better and better. I highly recommend you one click each and everyone of Catherine’s books.Definitely one of my top five Authors.
Beautifully Broken Control is book four in the Sutter Lake series by Catherine Cowles. Every book in this series has been amazing and I have been so looking forward to finding out Kennedy and Cain’s story.
We knew when we met Kennedy in the previous book that she had secrets. She is twenty two years old. She came to Sutter Lake to disappear. All she wants is to live simply with her dog, Chuck. She spends her days working for Jensen in the tea shop, her afternoons teaching children ballet, and her evenings volunteering at the shelter. But no matter how much she gives back, it will never be enough for the sins her father committed. For the lives his crimes destroyed.
“I was nothing. No one. And for now, that’s just what I needed to be.”
Cain Hale also has a dark, painful past. He is now a very rich and successful business man. His only focus is on making his security firm the best there is. On the outside, he is cool and composed. He never lets anyone see anything more. He keeps his secrets, his pain, buried deep. When part of his past comes back to haunt him, he has to get out of Portland. What better place to find peace than the small town his two best friends live in, Sutter Lake. Only he hadn’t planned to meet a woman who would sneak right past all those walls he had built up. A woman who he immediately wanted to protect. A woman who made him feel things he didn’t want to feel but who he couldn’t seem to stay away from.
“This man was slowly slipping behind every defense I had.”
As much as neither of these two wanted it, they couldn’t fight the tether that bound them. But there are so many secrets. Secrets they aren’t willing to share, even with each other.
This was such a good book. As with every one of Catherine’s books, once I got started, I couldn’t put it down. And of course, there is always that element of danger added in to keep us on our toes.
Also, as with every other book, I love the bond between all of these characters. Theirs is a hodge podge bunch of people that have become family. That love each other and will do anything for each other. No matter the risk. They accepted both Kennedy and Cain into their circle with no hesitation. Every time Kennedy tries to keep herself at a distance, Jensen reminds her, you are family.
I enjoyed every page of this book. I loved Kennedy and Cain but more importantly, I love this whole bunch. I can’t wait to see what Catherine Cowles does next.
What an absolutely beautiful story!!! I have been waiting ever so patiently for Cain and Kennedy’s story and let me tell you it was soooo worth the wait!! Cain and Kennedy collectively have been through some really tough times in their past that shapes them in their present lives. My heart ached for them and what they have went through, I just wanted to squeeze them tight and never let them go. I absolutely loved Kennedy, she is so sweet, kind, and is doing everything she can to make the wrong right in her everyday life even though it wasn’t her fault at all. Cain my poor poor Cain, he broke my heart. He has a hard time letting people in after what he has been through, he is super protective and the feelings that Kennedy stirs in him is feelings that he hasn’t felt in a very long time and it scares him but he can’t get her out of his mind. Can these two broken souls heal each other and let one another in? Will they realize that love is worth it all? I loved everything about this book, I laughed, cried, and swooned throughout their story. Catherine knows how to write a beautiful story that will suck you in from the very first page. As sad as I am that this is the end of Sutter Lake series, this book was the perfect way to end such an amazing series. I highly recommend this book and the whole Sutter Lake series to all. This talented author has done it again and this story is easily a top 2020 read for me hands down. Well done and I can’t wait to read more from this author!!!
Hands down my favorite book of the series. Cain and Kennedy are both broken but can heal with the help of one another. Of course you add some drama and suspense and get one heck of a read. You become emotionally invested in these characters and can feel every bit of what they are feeling. Beautifully written story that is a must read and one of the best of 2020.
Beautifully Broken Control by Catherine Cowles is a beating story of getting beyond the past that controls your future.
Kennedy is hiding from the past, one where her life was about wealth until with her help it was all gone and now she lives grateful for the things she has and gives back to others,
Cain runs a muti millionaire business but he’s not sure who he can trust when it seems like there’s a leak from within, and when his mother dies bringing up past feelings he knows he needs a break and his friend calls about a engagement party he knows Sutter Lake is the place he needs to be.
I loved this story, my heart felt for both of them, hoping they’d both be able to let go and move on from their past. Catherine writes beautiful characters with both heart even though they’re a little damaged you can always see some light.
This was the 4th book of standalones in the Sutter Lakes series, I’ve read and loved them all, can’t wait for what’s next.
There’s no way I would be able to give a review that would give this book justice. My heart hurt so much for both Kennedy and Cain. The amount of pain they lived with and misplaced guilt they piled on themselves. This was such a touching and moving story. Absolutely loved it!!!
Beautifully Broken Control is such an incredible book! Catherine Cowles has such an amazing way of writing that makes you feel like you are watching the story unfold and by the end you are so invested in the characters and their happily ever after, it feels like they are a part of your life. The chemistry between Cain and Kennedy is so sizzling that you can feel it coming off the pages. There is just enough suspense to keep you guessing and I absolutely cannot get enough of Catherine Cowles’ words. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
Catherine really knows how to punch you right in your romance-loving soul. Beautifully Broken Control is the finale that everyone was waiting for but nobody wanted because who could ever imagine leaving Sutter Lake?!? This is hands-down the best Catherine has published so far and I LOVE all of her books!
Cain and Kennedy are the perfect match. Both troubled and running from things in their pasts and neither one looking for someone to love. Fortunately for these two, life still happens when you’re busy hiding from your demons.
Pick up the Sutter Lake series now! I promise you want to know this small town and the incredible people who call it home!
This book hit me right in the feels, I had to read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t let it go!
Beautifully Broken Control is the fourth and final title in the Sutter Lake series, featuring Kennedy and Cain. This title is an emotional and angst ridden story, of healing and hope. Both characters have appeared as cameos in previous titles.
Both Kennedy and Cain are complex and endearing characters who have endured their fair share of pain in their past. Catherine Cowles crafts characters that are not only flawed, but realistic and relatable.
Kennedy is an intriguing character. She’s brave, strong, resilient, headstrong and hard working. Kennedy lives very simply, but will also give to others even if it means that she has to go without. She’s haunted by her past, and isolates herself, but when she loves it’s with her whole heart.
Cain is a brooding, enigmatic and successful businessman. He continues to suffer from the trauma of a tragedy in his past, and results in him being more than a little overbearing when it comes to those he holds dear.
I loved this story, and I’m sad to see the end of this series. I’ve grown to love these characters and loved that all my favourites appeared in this title. I highly recommend this title if you love a small town romance with a touch a intrigue, suspense and quite a few secrets.
