Beautifully Broken by Michelle Heard is one of the most raw and gritty romance I have ever read. It was dark and twisted but it was also about hope and new beginnings. A gripping tale of resilience and love.
.
Cara has been snatched away from her life to be thrown into chaos. Running from shadows. Used. Abused. Traumatised. Broken. And then rescued by a man on a mission. Damian. He didn’t know that Cara would make him feel everything while shutting down herself. But the dangers are far from over. The people who hurt her are in pursuit of her whereabouts again. And may be even Damian cannot save her.
.
This story has really sensitive and dark topics so hear trigger warnings before proceeding. The author didn’t hold back when describing the pain Cara went through. My heart breaks for her and I am also admiring how she overcame the hurdles. It was not easy for her. The pain was heartaching. But she endured and survived. Damian isn’t exactly the usual man. He is deep in the world where the dark side of humanity rules and he is always on rescue mission. So he has certain hardness and edgy feeling. But their connection is special and the hard work was worth it. It was very emotional and sometimes hard to read. But I would say you need to read it to experience a very real journey from the dark to the light.
.
Michelle Heard knows how to deliver extreme emotions with extreme effect and Beautifully Broken was the best example.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily
Heartbreaking, Intense and emotional.
A beautiful story about healing and surviving.
Michelle always brings depth into her stories and she has the ability to captivate and pull you through every emotion.
Damian is all alpha and you can’t help but fall for his protective, sexy, hero-ness.
Damian and Cara will pull at your heart strings and you will feel everything while reading.
I am still amazed by how much I love this book! I cannot put it down. Cara is a happy 18 year old when when her parents tragically die, now she is on the run. She is taken and Damian finds her. Now they they are on the run together. Their story is intense, emotional, and suspenseful. These two are fire and their story is pure magic. 5 epic stars!
I’m so glad I finally got to read this book, talk about a heart wrencher. Please take the warnings seriously as it definitely isn’t an easy read but that’s what makes it even more special.
Will the female main character be able to move on from being so beautifully broken more than once, or are her pieces too broken to fit back together?
Although the subject matter was tough to read the author handled it with class, so I definitely recommend.
This is a dark romance and was previously published as Predator. I hadn’t read it when it was previously published and I honestly don’t know why I missed this book. I have read most of Michelle books since I have discovered her. This is definitely a dark romance and do read the trigger warnings before going in this book. With that being said the story is captivating, gripping, emotional and quite intense. It was an emotional roller coaster along with all its raw emotions, darkness and grittiness. Don’t want to give any spoilers but definitely go in after reading the trigger warnings.
Omg, this book will make you feel so much. It
was beautifully heartbreaking. From the very
beginning it draws you, especially when it came
to both Cara and Daniel’s story. It was beautifully
written, and I’m definitely invested in this series, for
sure. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This book was emotional and dark. Cara Ellison was a normal teenager getting ready for college, with the support of loving parents. Then a loud crash, her entire life is blown apart. The next thing she knows is being in a hospital, and being told by her Uncle Tom that she must leave her home in South Africa. She is given a new passport, money and a visa to go to America. Told her to run far away and never come back. Cara wakes up in the dark. It is cold and it is dark, so dark that she can’t see anything. She feels the walls to see what is around her, maybe she can find a way out. Every piece of her was tired of fighting. Her savior was presently going by the name Damian Weston, and not only did he save her life, but he would also become her life. A killer with a heart of gold.
I have read a handful of books by Michelle Heard, but it has been awhile. I was curious on what she would bring to us with Beautifully Broken that was previously released as Predator. Oh my… I was left speechless, broken, and emotionally in despair for Cara. That girl goes through so much and the pain is unbearable. Michelle writes with such conviction that you can’t help feel what the characters feel. This story is dark and heart shattering. I was not sure how I was going to survive through this book.
Our sweet protector Damian… the patience this man has amazed me. The way Cara changed him for the better was unbelievable. The highs and lows. The move one step forward and fall three steps back was stuck in a loop. I really could not see a HEA. But Michelle Heard does it! She will turn something horrific into something that is Beautifully Broken. It is a read that has triggers for some readers. It is not a story for all, but it is a story that promises the sun will always come up.
“My sweetheart,” the man coos at the girl. “Daddy?” “Everything’s going to be fine, sweetheart,” Tears start to burn in my eyes at the emotion weighing heavy in the room. Then it feels like something dies in me. I’m not sure what it is, but I feel lost without it. “No one came for me,” “Cara, look at me. I came for you.”
Wow! Beautifully Broken is a heartbreaking story of loss, in varying forms. It’s not a hearts and flowers story, it’s real, raw and the authors words bleed onto the page. Ms Heard rips your heart to shreds and somehow manages to sew it back together by the end of this book. This story makes you ponder about situations, outcomes and what if’s. A trigger warning and subject matter that was treated with utmost respect and written with the perfect balance between actual and the readers imagination. Emotional connection with the characters had me experiencing nervousness, apprehension, fear and extreme sadness.
Cara finds herself in a predicament none of us would choose. Almost broken, but she opts to grow and gain strength as a result. It’s not easy and realistically she stumbles and makes some bad choices along the way. We need more men in the world like Damien, he is patient, kind and an absolute saint. He gives her a gentle nudge if needed, knows when to give her space and when to just be there for her.
I’m a huge fan of Michelle Heard, I’ve read and loved many of her books and Beautifully Broken is up there with my favourites. Michelle does gritty, no hold bars, suspense well, and this is another story that comes with a warning. No moonlight and rainbows I’m afraid. There is however a compelling story following 18 year old Cara Ellison as she runs from the only life she’s ever know to fend for herself in another country. When her past catches up with her and she is wishing for death to take her, she is saved by the one person who is far scarier than her captors. When the Damien is sent to ‘find’ Cara he gets more than he bargained for. A man with no feelings, he finds himself struggling with his emotions, he too is running from his past. He just tackles his demons head on. The story, told in dual POV, follows two characters who have had to fight for their lives, who are still fighting for survival, yet never give up. Loved it.
**Warning: This book may contain possible triggering content to some readers**
Beautifully Broken was Cara’s story about her trauma and her heartbreaking journey to healing. She was a strong heroine, that despite everything she endured, continued to persevere.
Damian her protector and savior was intense yet gentle when she needed. His affection and need to protect Cara grew every day as he helped her fight to survive. Neither one were expecting for life to take them where it did, but they both came out on top stronger for it.
Broken intense emotional heartstopping broken love story of Cara and Damien
All the feels
This was such a tragic hurtful and so painful emotional story that will hurt your heart. Cara has been through such a tragic experience and Damien OMG I love him is their for it all to guide her back into life and is so patient and understanding.
This is written to perfection every word seizes the moment that you have to catch your breath as it consumes you. The detail is spot on with the warning and I truly loved it.
Beautifully broken is beautifully heartbreaking and inspiring.
What do you do when you loose everything… including your sense of self?
Cara is truly an inspiration. Her inner strength and her ability to survive… against all odds. What a heroine.
Damian is everything you want in a hero… including him not seeing himself as a hero… it’s just something he needs to do.
These two together send warmth straight to your heart.
Cannot believe it’s taken me this long to read this book.
Beautifully broken is an amazing read. This book broke me and showed me that you can overcome anything if someone believes in you and you believe in yourself.
It’s hard for me to write this review as my emotions are on a rollercoaster ride. This story completely obliterated my heart and put it back together again. I really wish I could give it more than five stars as it rightfully deserves so much more than that. It’s a story of perseverance, redemption and hope. Please note this story is not for the feint of heart. There are parts that will rip you apart and make you cry, but when it all comes together, it is a story of which I will never forget.
Cara is a young woman who has undergone things no human being should ever have to. She has dealt with so much heartache and sadness that I just wanted to wrap her in my arms and give her a huge hug. So when Damian comes into her life I hoped and prayed that he could help her heal and show her that there is goodness in life. While Cara is unsure of him and untrusting, she knows deep down that he will keep her safe. Their relationship starts out very rough, but as you read, you just know that these two will somehow end up together. Damian is kind, patient and loving with Cara and only wants to protect her and keep her safe, anything beyond that is a bonus. And as for Cara, she is beautiful and may be a bit broken, but I just knew in my heart that she would overcome all that has happened and will be a survivor.
This story is so much more about two people thrown together in a tough situation. It’s about two people coming to terms with their lives and each other. Words cannot fully express how incredible this story is and how everyone needs it in their life. Pure brilliance.
I honestly don’t know if this book can be anymore beautiful, raw, twisted, angst, intense, dangerous, drama, heat and page turning. It tore me up from the inside out. I absolutely loved it!!
Holy moly what a start to this incredible story. Yes, there are warnings about triggers and it’s good that they are there, but I honestly felt the writing was well balanced and the situation handled well.
Cara is an innocent victim who learns in an extremely hard way how life can be a battle and you need to build up your inner strength to survive it. Damien is a saviour who is strong and protective, however, he finds himself in an emotional minefield with Cara and that tests him. Their journey isn’t easy at any stage but the title is apt because it is so true.
The intensity of the emotions that were invoked by this story are so incredible it is hard to describe it adequately. This author literally reached in, took my heart in her literary hands and squeezed it as tight as possible—especially for Cara! Just how much one person can go through, is thoroughly tested that’s for sure.
Absolutely amazing descriptions are all through this book making it easy to visualise each scene and feel what each character is experiencing. For example: “I wake up feeling like a piece of chewed gum, sticky and stretched too thin.”—Cara.
This author tackled such hard issues head on and came out triumphant with this incredible story, I applaud her for her writing brilliance.
4*
Cara had to leave South Africa after her parents suddenly death. A new identity Cassy Smith should keep her safe.
Damian isn’t sure what to expect when he’s hired to do a job but Cara definitely isn’t it.
The urgent need to protect her is full on and what he discovers is terrible.
Another brilliant book.
There is nothing worse than the feeling of being alone.
Having no one to speak to, to confide in.
Having no one to share your life with, share your emotions with.
The world can be a very cold, isolated, dark and unforgiving place when having to face it on your own.
It almost feels suffocating.
Especially when you’re only eighteen years old.
This is Caras story.
At eighteen, Cara is ready to set off to college like any other normal teenage girl. She has a wonderful life, loving parents. Her future is bright.
But Cara doesn’t know that monsters are lurking.
She doesn’t know that it’s her death they want.
An explosion will change everything.
Parents gone, she only has her Uncle left.
But she can’t stay.
She has to run.
New identity, new country, she has to make sure she is always one step ahead of them.
Seven years.
Seven years of running.
Seven years without friends.
Seven years without feeling, just simply living each day making sure you’re never found.
But after seven years, Caras time has just ran out.
They have found her.
It’s their turn now.
They will take her blood.
They will shatter her soul.
They will destroy her.
Not if he has anything to do with it.
He’s strong.
He’s cold and calculated.
He hunts his prey and kills with no remorse.
He saves people from the evils of the world.
His job.
To find a girl.
Her name Cara.
His name….Predator.
Welcome to Cara and Predators world.
A world where monsters exist.
A world where darkness seeps into your bones.
A world where strength and hope are the only things to hang on too.
A world where blood will be shed and souls completely destroyed.
A world where love is only a longing dream.
A world where two very broken souls will be united in the most horrific of circumstances.
Guys….Predator what can I say other than this book has left me with one serious book hangover.
Hooked from the dedication I was completely captivated, held hostage. I seriously couldn’t put it down.
It was raw, dark, extremely confronting, soul shattering, heart-breakingly beautiful.
To be honest it shattered me into a million pieces. So confronting at times it was hard to breathe.
So dark and raw it left me speechless.
So breathtakingly beautiful my heart melted.
So haunting there were moments it broke me.
Even after finishing I feel like I have a gaping hole in my chest….I honestly can’t explain it.
I wish I could rate this more than a 5 star, because believe me when I say Predator is absolute sheer brilliance and so much more. It’s a read not to be missed. It will leave you haunted….Just like me.
A HUGE 5 star read (but deserves 10 in my eyes)
Cara lost everything at a young age and must use a new identity to keep hidden from those who killed her parents. You watch as Cara fights with everything she has at times after all she goes through. You can feel what Cara goes through with both the abuse and learning to love and trust again. The chemistry between Cara and Damian is clearly just waiting to explode. Cara and Damian both have so much pain from there past and so many emotions to work through.
Although Cara puts in every effort to fight off her attackers, she can’t, then one night she is rescue by The Predator(Damian). Cara finds out that Damian was hired by her Uncle, but Damian isn’t quite sure of his motives in wanting Cara back.
Damian goes very slowly with Cara not wanting to scare her off, but, Cara’s insecurities from being attacked surface and she worries that she has ruined them. Damian then realises that he has never told Cara how he feels because he didn’t want to scare her. When Damian tells Cara “I live you”, Cara becomes confused until Damian explains you only have one life and she is he’s.
After not being able to listen to Cara tell him what happened to her, Damian wants revenge and Cara finds out the original reason Damian was sent to her. Again, leaving Cara confused.
I loved the ending of the book showing that with everything they both went through that they could still have that HEA, can’t wait to grab another book by this author.
