“Sophie Jordan excels at writing sizzling hot reads!” —New York Times Bestselling Author Jill ShalvisFrom the wrong side of the tracks and with most of her family in jail or dead, Piper Walsh is used to everyone in town thinking the worst about her. It doesn’t seem to matter that she’s worked hard to build a good life for herself. So she isn’t surprised that when she comes into contact with Sweet … surprised that when she comes into contact with Sweet Hill’s wildly irresistible, arrogant sheriff, Hale Walters, they’re instant adversaries. Piper has nothing in common with the town golden-boy-turned-lawman—and she refuses to be a notch on his bedpost.
Despite rumors, Hale avoids fooling around with the women of Sweet Hill, many of whom are hoping to get him to the altar. But staying out of Piper’s path is proving near impossible. The infuriating troublemaker clearly has no respect for his badge. As she continues to push his buttons, it becomes clear to Hale that he must either arrest Piper—or claim her as his own.

An excellent addition to Ms. Jordan’s outstanding Devil’s Rock series!
4.5 stars
First time author for me and I’ll definitely be reading more of her books, especially this series. Hale is one hot alpha male. He’s got a dirty mouth and will make you really want to be in that scene. Piper is from the wrong side of the tracks, trying to take care of her teenage sister while her brother is in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Piper’s a strong heroine, especially for being only 25. I loved the push and pull between the two of them. Thankfully it wasn’t overdone. Hale becomes so possessive but he doesn’t push it because he wants to hold on to Piper. Will probably read this one again in the future.
Lots of sex, not too much story.
Hot steamy and very interesting.
I’ve read some of Sophie Jordan’s historical romances but this is the first contemporary book I’ve tried and it was hot. Hale and Piper have over the top chemistry that jumped right out of the pages of the book.
Piper seems to suffer one hard knock after another with no rest in sight. Her family name has worked to blacken her reputation since she was a child. First with her criminal father than with her drunken mother, but things only worsened for her with her older brother was convicted of murdering a young girl. Now her only concern is keeping a roof over her younger sister’s head and staying in town to be close to her brother. Her sudden and inexplicable attraction to golden boy turned Sheriff makes her life just a bit more complicated.
This was angstier than I thought it would be but I think it was just the right amount of angst. Piper was a resilient character who loved her family and was determined to support them no matter what. The things she had to live through and the choices she had to make were hard on her and definitely made me feel for her. I liked that she never backed down from anyone not even Hale.
Hale was a bit judgey and arrogant at first but once he realized that he had made a mistake and misjudged Piper, he was quick to admit it and try to make amends. Things between them are always so intense and he definitely knows just how to push Piper’s buttons to get a reaction out of her. This was a nicely done opposites attract love story and the series seems promising, expecially with such colorful characters. Cruz is someone I want to know more of.
Memorable Moments: Piper projects a hardened persona but is actually a really gentle and vulnerable person. Watching her soften towards Hale and start to see things on the bright side made me a bit teary eyed.
Would I recommend? I haven’t read any of the others in the series but I didn’t feel like I missed anything. It can be read as a standalone and would recommend.
This book is about Piper and her past and her family name. Piper has to take care of her little sister because of her mother and father being dead and her brother being in Jail. The only job Piper could get was in a strip club because of her family name. Piper was just waiting tables to pay the bills and buy food.
I enjoyed the story line and the characters in this book. The only fault I found was that I thought the ending was a little rushed. There could have been a better build up to the big secret the heroine had hidden for so many years. The sudden appearance near the end of the book and the way the problem was neatly resolved was a little too tidy and unrealistic to me.
This is an extremely well-written book with a believable story line.
I was hoping to like this one more, the author spent a great deal of time setting up the back story and the plot, but I felt the resolution was too quick and simple. It was hard to believe these two would come together so cleanly. I don’t know, I suppose all the angst from the back story set up different expectations on how this one would resolve. I feel like there was a lost opportunity to make this one more intricate. It was nice, just not very satisfying for me.
Beautiful Lawman was a good, fun read. The bar scenario was especially funny and sexy. I enjoyed both the heroine and hero.
Its a nice easy read. Pretty good plot. Characters are a little weak and tend to get preachy. On the whole, it was enjoyable.
Great book, loved the characters. Good romance for quick summer reading. Will buy the series
This book kept my interest even though it was pretty predictable.
The author did do a very good job of portraying how vulnerable women living in poverty are.
I enjoyed this book.
Piper is talked about and thought about as a looser so to speak with her family either in jail or gone people talk.
Sheriff Hale is a good guy the one everyone adores. So what can he see in Piper?
Piper is raising her sister Malia and lets everything else play out with no problem. She could care less. She also visits her older brother who is in prison. Once Hale learns about Piper and what is really going on he loses the jerk attitude and helps.
A great book the characters were great and it was nice seeing these two come together.
