I was a little hesitant when I started reading this book because suddenly I would be in the perspective of another character and months behind where the last book ended. But all that hesitation soon dissipated with my need to know Bonnie’s story.
I was fascinated with the peeks at even more stories than we have already seen hinted at in this series with the addition of many of the characters in Rosemead.
I again am blown away by how much Lucy Tempest fleshes out each character and how each of them are one their own journeys of growth. I love all the characters that we have been introduced to and I am already so invested into their stories.
Also, this story has surprised me. With it being a retelling of such a classic tale that has been retold so many times, I was surprised to find myself not knowing what was going to happen next. I have been surprised and delighted by all the character and differences brought to this Beauty and the Beast retelling. And the relationship between Leander and Bonnie is adorable! I love all their byplays. It makes me so happy.
Romance content: Super sweet. No kissing.
I was so excited to read this book, not only because it was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but also because it was written by Lucy Tempest. I have come to love Lucy Tempest’s books, that are so good! Beast of Rosemead is the fourth book in Lucy Tempest’s series, but it is also the first in the Rosemead collection. This book’s answers so many unanswered questions from the Cahraman collection.
Bonnie has always longed to leave her home and travel to the fabled worlds. But when she is actually given the chance, things do not go as she had planned. She is taken to the Beast’s castle where she is held captive and finds herself in the midst of a world, that really seems as if it were part of a fairy tale.
Leander is in a position that he never wanted to be in. He had known his whole life that he was cursed, but he never imagined that it would come to this.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about Bonnie. She was a bit flighty and headstrong, but as I read more, I started to see her grow and change. But I liked that Bonnie was very imaginative and caring. Even as she tried to solve the mystery behind the best of Rosemead, she comes to care for the servants who live and serve under the beast. As she lives in Rosemead, she starts to learn that things are not always as she thinks.
At first Leander came off as harsh and stuck up. But as you read the book, you see a different side of him. He really cares for his servants and wants the best for them. But he knows that there is not much he can do for them, because when he was cursed, those around him were also cursed. He truly wants to help his servants, but he doesn’t know what to do because he knows that the villagers will never accept them.
I really liked who they started to care for, as they got to know each other. I loved watching them come together, to try and defend their home and fight for their friends. But one of my favorite things about this book, were the die characters. I loved Clancy and Jessamine, they were so cute together. I shipped them from the beginning. 🙂
This was a great book, and I am so glad that I read it. I would definitely recommend it, I give it 5 stars. Now I just have to read the other book.
This is a self-indulgent Beauty and the Beast retelling for everyone who liked the Disney movie and wish there was something more to it than just really bad sequels. I kind of had mixed feelings going into this but they quickly changed into a really positive experience. It’s a quick, fun read and a nice take on the Beauty and the Beast story.
Really hope there will be a different cover at some point though, because… This one just does a disservice to the story inside.
This is the first book of Ms. Tempest’s that I’ve read. I’ve heard good things about her books and have been excited to give them a try and I was not disappointed! Beast of Rosemead is not your average Beauty and the Beast retelling. It’s unique and exciting! I absolutely love when an author sets up for future stories in their books. I can already see a Robin Hood and Sleeping Beauty book coming after this and I just can’t wait (especially for the Robin Hood story)!!!
