A budding romance, struggling to survive in the most hostile of environments.
River wants Darius from the moment he lays eyes on him. Unfortunately, the Ironshore Clan has zero tolerance for humans. They wouldn’t want a human in their borders let alone mated to their alpha. There would be challenges to his leadership. But the pull he feels is undeniable. He prepares himself for battle because … is undeniable. He prepares himself for battle because whatever the cost, Darius would be his
When Darius lost his wife his life crumbled. It’s taken years for him to pick up the pieces and be a good father to his son. Now that things are finally stable, this delightfully suave bear steps into his world and makes him wonder if perhaps he could love again. But River leads a complicated life and Darius worries about getting his son involved in shifter politics. After all, the welfare of his child must always come first.
This MM shifter romance can be read as a standalone.
Absolutely fantastic! A well written emotionally deep romance. The storyline is flawless, funny, witty, enjoyable, and very interesting. The story flows smoothly and moves along at a brisk pace with a few ups and downs and a mix of emotions on every page. The chemistry between them is intense and their sex scene is beautifully written and HOT!

A really good MM shifter romance.
I have to be honest here… MM’s aren’t typically stories I read. But, having said that, I wanted to read this particular one to see who Darius ended up with after losing his wife, Camille. The only thing that kept Darius from following her was their son, Parker. And for a while, it didn’t seem like he was going to be enough to hold him but he eventually got control back of his life, thanks to his brother-in-law. River is the alpha of the Ironshore clan but he’s never been accepted by them. He had two strikes against him from the start, he was an orphan and he is openly gay. Then he killed the alpha in a drunken fight. So what do these two unlikely men have in common? Quite a bit, including an instant attraction that is full of heat.
I enjoyed reading about their story and everything it took to get them to the happily ever after. This is the last book in the Bears of Southoak and can be read as a standalone but it is much better to read it in the order it’s written, in my opinion.

Audible. Also available via KU.
This was a bit longer than the last two and I think it really gave Kayci Morgan the chance to craft an even better story. River is the alpha of his clan but hated for both being gay and having made a terrible mistake in his teens. Widowed Darius (whom we met in book 1) is getting his life back together for himself and his son, Parker. After the death of his wife, he struggled with alcoholism but has now been sober for a year. When River meets Darius he feels an instant connection.
I thought that this might be GFY-trope, but it’s actually that Darius while knowing he was bi only ever loved his wife. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for a precocious kid loved by all the adults in his life, so Parker was a great dynamic to Darius & River’s relationship.
Gary Bennett has an intimate/cozy voice that was an excellent fit for the alternating POVs of the MCs. He did a good job with male & female voices as well as a wide range of emotions.
This is definitely my favorite of the series so far and a deal at under $5.

Bearly Breathing
Bears of Southoak, Book 3
By: Kayci Morgan
Narrated by: Gary Bennett
Series: Bears of Southoak, Book 3
Kayci Morgan pens another terrific novel in her “Bears of Southoak” series. I enjoy her writing style and the interesting and original storylines she created as well as the characters and world dynamics. She has a great imagination and still manages to keep it all realistic and relatable. There was a time when The Bears of Southoak and Ironshore were one clan, differences in opinions on how to live broke them in to two clans, the Southoak Bears chose to live in modern society with human interaction, while the Ironshore Bears chose to live amongst themselves in the wilderness. River the alpha bear of Ironshore was not well liked by the clan members, they hold an unfortunate incident against him that happened when he was younger. He is also dealing with his own insecurities and resentments, but he wanted to make his adopted parents proud and do things for the betterment of the clan and goes to make a business deal with the Bears of Southoak, who are not a fan of his either. After a successful business deal in Southoak he saves a man from getting hit by a store sign. Darius, lost his wife and then lost himself in alcohol, after hitting rock bottom he finally started to get his act together for the sake of his son. When River saves him from getting hit by that sign there was an instant attraction between them. After some inner turmoil he finally agrees to go out with him. I loved how everything played out between these two, the chemistry between them was smoking. Also loved how River was with Darius’s son. There is never a dull moment in this book, there is plenty of drama, angst, twists, thrilling & suspenseful moments, heartfelt moments and hot romance.
I listened to the Audible edition, Gary Bennett continues to bring these characters to life, giving them their voices and personalty as well as attitude. You can hear how much heart he puts into his work as he projects the emotions of the characters into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen
This was really emotional for these two guys. River was adopted and never quite fit in with the clan. Even though he is the Alpha, the entire clan wants him gone. Darius is human, but his wife was park of the Southoak Clan and his son, Parker, still is. His wife died and he spiraled out of control. Parker was the only thing that brought him back from the brink. At 8 yrs old Parker has an adult attitude when it comes to caring for his dad. From the moment River saw Darius he was intrigued and saved his life. The two will fight their addictions, prejudices, and even a kidnapping before they get their HEA. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
This is a great story about Darius finally getting back on his feet after being in rehab and moving on after the death of his wife. River is an alpha that got the position because of a mistake. He’s always been an outsider and just wants to be accepted and fit in. A falling sign helps them to meet and they both cannot ignore the attraction. The characters’ emotions, struggles, and pains bring so much substance and meaning to the trials faced during this story. The storyline keeps you engaged with the ups and downs, twists and turns and emotional moments. Great read. I love this series and can’t wait for the next one.

Parker was probably my favorite character in this whole book, especially in the last chapter. Darius and River were both so broken that I had a bit of trouble suspending my disbelief that they could be healthy for each other. But I did enjoy how they came together and found a greater strength united than they had found separately.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I loved this story. It gave me all the feels.
River and Darius have perfect chemistry. They complement each other, and take step by step together.
Parker is such a cheeky little boy. I would say he is too smart for his own good. 🙂
It was good to see Bailey and the boys again.
I recommend this book if you wanted to read something funny, hot, and quick.
River is the Alpha of Ironshore a group of bear shifters. He became Alpha unintentionally and remains in the position to be remain near to his adoptive family. The only family that has ever loved him. On a visit to the nearby Southoak clan his attention is captivated by a man on the street and he ends up preventing him being hurt be a falling sign. This is how River and Darius meet. Two broken men with painfilled pasts come together and help each other. Throw in a child beyond his years and a clan determined to get what they want and you have a great story. The more you get to know River and Darius the more you want it to work out for them. Parker was great and he definitely added to the story. It goes to show that with the right person the pain of the past can stop holding back the future. A really enjoyable read.
This is book three in the Bears of Southoak series. FREAKING AWESOME!!!!! Darius and River wow!!!! The chemistry between them is HOT. I couldn’t put this one down. I loved the poker game. Laughed so hard. Parker was great too.Recommend this book, this series, and this author.

River may be the alpha of his pack but his pack isn’t happy about it after all what use is an alpha that won’t mate with a female and produce heirs to follow him. Things take an even nastier turn when River meets Darius and his son Parker his bear takes one look at Darius and yells ate. They will have to face much opposition not only for their sexual choices but also for the fact that they are a human and a bear shifter will they get a HEA You will need to read to see
In Bearly Rivals Kayci Morgan gave you a feel for the community of the Southoak clan and told a story of rivalry and redemption on the path to true love. In Bearly Dangerous the author took you on a journey of unrequited love and self-sacrifice on the path to true love. Darius and River both needed to figure out where they belong. I learned to love these characters and will think about them long after reading these books. What a surprise for Darius of the Southoak clan to find love with River, alpha of Ironshore clan. Finding love together and creating a family unit for Darius’ son too. You can’t beat this type of ending.

I loved this book. There were smiles and tears throughout the whole thing.
This was a great story of two men who have both faced their own trials in life, but still come together in a beautiful romance.
I think this was a well written book, paced well. It is a quick book to get through, but definitely worth the read.
I think this was a good addition to the first 2 books as well, enough interaction with the previous characters, but still it’s own story.
My overwhelming feeling when I read this story was ‘poor River’, but really it was a story of hope, with a rocky start and an explosive end.

I really liked Darius and River and Parker. I thought that the characters were really good together (Darius and River). Parker gave cuteness to the story. I liked the dialogue and the narrative. I think the story was really enjoyable.

Darius finally gets his happy ending
He lost his mate and he turned to the bottle, but now he’s been sober for a year and he is determined to make it up to his son.
But when River shows up into his life he’s not sure what to do. His pack doesn’t like Rivers pack but the alpha doesn’t care and will do anything to get to know the human that is his mate!
This book was sweet and a bit steamy and full of so much love. Definitely a page turner!

River, a bear shifter fostered by an elderly couple is not really accepted ty the ultra-traditional clan, except by the young alpha. When he tries to help the angry teenager, it comes to a fight and the alpha dies. By clan-right that makes River the new alpha and he tries hard for years to fit the role. When he finally finds his human mate, a human who had lost his shifter wife in an accident, all comes to a point.
A wonderful story of insecurities, love and support of friends and family.
The book is the last part of a trilogy, but can easily be read as a stand alone

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I love Southoak
And I definitely want to live there.
I also love Kayci Morgans imagination and writing style. I love the characters and the storyline with the twists and turns and I love …ok let’s face it i love everything about this book – well the good stuff anyway but I suppose you can’t have just the good stuff or it wouldn’t be as good (does that make any sense?)
I would and am definitely recommending this book and this series and I am so excited to see what else comes out of the mind of Kayci Morgan -I am now a lifelong member of the fan club and an avid fan.
