Rescued from the sea and the wreckage of his ship, Alex finds himself in the saving hands of the lighthouse keeper-a young woman. Sylvia has been keeping watch and saving lives from the lighthouse on Destruction Island since the death of her parents. The man she rescued this time draws her into the world of piracy and intrigue and she finds herself falling in love.
Too Short; Language Issues
This book starts off dramatically, as the hero clings desperately to a plank of wood after his ship has been attacked by a pirate. He’s about to succumb to the deep when he is pulled aboard a small boat and taken to safety. He believes his rescuer to be a small man, but she turns out to be a woman. Her father was the lighthouse keeper until his untimely death a few months ago. Having learned how to run a lighthouse, she continues to do so, though she knows her days are numbered as the lighthouse board will not allow a young unmarried woman to keep the position. The first part of the story is about the hero regaining his health at the lighthouse while he figures out his next move. He falls for the pretty woman but sees himself as a bit of a blackguard because he is a privateer, raiding pirate ships and giving the plunder to officials who disperse it to struggling towns. He doesn’t want to leave her, but he does not see himself as good enough for her. He decides to take the biggest, baddest pirate down as his next move.
Parts of the story were fine, though the story is too short to give much of a true romantic arc. It’s definitely instalove all the way (though he does state that he admired her from afar for years). Theoretically, he was stranded at the lighthouse for weeks, so there would have been “story time” to show the growth of their feelings for each other. Since cutting down to pirate became such a big thing for the hero, it would have been nice to see that foreshadowed.
This book came out over two years ago, but the reader copy I received was riddled with errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage. the book is so short that I cannot see in the preview if these errors persist in the published version, but as the author has had two years to fix these mistakes, I imagine they still exist. There were problems with possessive apostrophes in more than one place. Wrong words were used like taught instead of taut, waived instead of waved, and further instead of farther when talking about distance. Hyphens were also problematic, both being used when they should not and not used when they should. In such a short book, this level of error was enough to be distracting. All in all, the story was dissatisfying and left me wanting more.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is my first time reading something by this author. This was an enjoyable read. It’s a touching historical romance with plenty of action and drama that will keep you turning the pages. The story was well-written and flowed nicely. The plot was interesting and had some plot twists and turns that made this an interesting and intriguing story. The characters were strong and well-developed. The author did a nice job of bringing this story to life with her vivid descriptions and well-developed scenes. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Action, drama, and a sweet romance.
A survivor from a shipwreck caused by a pirate attack Alex hopes to reach the Washington Coast and he is losing all hope of reaching the shore as his strength weakens more and more. Then an angel came out of the night and rescued him. Sylvia and Alex were splendid characters and along with action, drama, and a sweet romance this was such a good piece. It was amazing how much was in this quick read. It was a great book and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A sweet short story of rescue and pirates and storms. I enjoyed these characters and the rescuer role reversal.
