Greer Hennessy is a struggling movie location scout. Her last location shoot ended in disaster when a film crew destroyed property on an avocado grove. And Greer ended up with the blame. Now Greer has been given one more chance–a shot at finding the perfect undiscovered beach town for a big budget movie. She zeroes in on a sleepy Florida panhandle town. There’s one motel, a marina, a long … long stretch of pristine beach and an old fishing pier with a community casino–which will be perfect for the film’s climax–when the bad guys blow it up in an all-out assault on the townspeople.
Greer slips into town and is ecstatic to find the last unspoilt patch of the Florida gulf coast. She takes a room at the only motel in town, and starts working her charm. However, she finds a formidable obstacle in the town mayor, Eben Thinadeaux. Eben is a born-again environmentalist who’s seen huge damage done to the town by a huge paper company. The bay has only recently been re-born, a fishing industry has sprung up, and Eben has no intention of letting anybody screw with his town again. The only problem is that he finds Greer way too attractive for his own good, and knows that her motivation is in direct conflict with his.
Will true love find a foothold in this small beach town before it’s too late and disaster strikes? Told with Mary Kay Andrews inimitable wit and charm, the New York Times bestseller Beach Town is this year’s summer beach read!

Although I’m a mystery writer, I enjoy reading a good women’s fiction novel as much as the next woman, and this is an excellent read. The setting of a small sweltering Florida beach town was interesting, as was the exploration of what happens when a movie crew comes to town and upsets all the local dynamics. Of course, the romance didn’t hurt, either. All in all, a great escape novel! Well done.
I love all of Mary Kay Andrews’ books and this one is no exception. Greer Hennessy is a movie location scout. She is looking for a sleepy Florida town that has an old-time look. She finds it in Cypress Key, FL. She desperately wants this movie to succeed as her last job did not go well at all. With a cast of characters including her estranged father, a mayor who catches her eye, the director, her best friend, and many others — be prepared not to put this book down. Just FYI, Mary Kay Andrews wrote a 100 page prequel to this book entitled Change of Scene that introduces you to the character of Greer. Both are great reads.
As a beach lover myself and a fan of Florida, this book caught my interest. The story line was unique and I thought Greer’s career interesting. Neither character was a billionaire, famous, or perfect, which I appreciate for the reality of it. In hindsight, this book took me longer than typical and I think it may have been the amount of detail in parts. Despite that, it made a good beach read (literally, I read it on the beach & there’s sand between the pages to prove it) and was entertained enough to look forward to reading it each day. I love a romance that has a happy ending and enough burn to keep me interested because it’s well written, and I’m not skipping pages!
Fun light read
Loved it!!
Mary Kay Andrews never disappoints!!!
Love the author. Would read any book she wrote. Always entertaining.
Entertaining light read. Likeable characters.
I just finished listening to the audiobook version of Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews and I just loved it. I haven’t read any other reviews so I don’t know if anyone else has already mentioned this but there was a pretty clear Pride and Prejudice homage going on in this book. It was very sweet, romantic, and well written. Characters grew and learned and relationships developed. It also painted a pretty interesting picture of movie production shenanigans on location that was very entertaining.
My first book by this author very enjoyable I will be reading more from her.
This was a quick read, very enjoyable book. I could hardly put it down.
If you like well written books about Florida, and making of movies with a little bit of local politics, you will enjoy this book. There were so many twists and turns but the story went swimmingly along. I couldn’t put it down, I had to see what happened next.
This is the first book of Mary Kay Andrews I have read, but I can recommend it highly enjoyed every word.
