An American expatriate in Rome unearths his family legacy in this sweeping novel by the acclaimed author of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini A Southerner living abroad, Jack McCall is scarred by tragedy and betrayal. His desperate desire to find peace after his wife’s suicide draws him into a painful, intimate search for the one haunting secret in his family’s past that can heal his … family’s past that can heal his anguished heart. Spanning three generations and two continents, from the contemporary ruins of the American South to the ancient ruins of Rome, from the unutterable horrors of the Holocaust to the lingering trauma of Vietnam, Beach Music sings with life’s pain and glory. It is a novel of lyric intensity and searing truth, another masterpiece among Pat Conroy’s legendary and beloved novels.

One of the best books I have ever read. I couldn’t put it down!
I can’t remember that last time I cried this hard when reading a book. I guess a book that makes me cry or laugh is the highest praise I can give a book. I just moved to Georgia (10 min from South Carolina) from Colorado so this book provided a lot of education as well as deep emotion. I am so moved by this book I am actually speechless. I will just say it is one of the best books I have ever read
Couldn’t get interested and did not finish the book
I really enjoyed this book. There are many stories in this book. Most of the main characters are fleshed out with their own stories. Makes you feel the southern sea. Pat Conroy has a way with words and this is one of his best. This book is about love-parental, sibling, friends, lovers, spouses . This comes in many forms and they are explored in this book.
Wonderful book, but then I find all of Pat Conroy’s books wonderful. This will be especially meaningful for Southerners.
Haphazard and opinionated. Completely unrealistic with each character too “perfectly fitting” their role.
Any thing Mr. Conroy is a great read, he has the ability to paint a picture with words. There are few author in his class and abilities.
I am a Pat Conroy fan. This book follows his usual model of southern characters and setting. If you liked the Prince of Tides, you will like this one too.
Beautifully written.
Best book i ever read. I always wished that they would make a movie from the book. I don’t know why but it just touched me.
Pat Conroy was the best storyteller of my generation. His words flow like sweet southern honey. If you read nothing else this year, read this book. It’s about love, hate, family, redemption, and all those words reviewers use without knowing what a superlative writer can make if them.
It was a page turner for me about a fathers love and about life long friendships that evolve.
I love Pat Conroy….just the most well written book I have read in a long time. I am rereading it, just pure pleasure.
This is a favorite book of mine, multi-layered themes and characters. Will re-read it again soon.
Love Pat Conroy but this was an exceptionally great story which I could not put down. Highly recommend.
Par Conroy at his finest
Too predictable and contrived.
Love the writing style! This author has a gift with words!
This is one of my all time favorite books by an all time favorite author. It is a great book.
Pat Conroy’s voice was and is exceptional.
