An American expatriate in Rome unearths his family legacy in this sweeping novel by the acclaimed author of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini A Southerner living abroad, Jack McCall is scarred by tragedy and betrayal. His desperate desire to find peace after his wife’s suicide draws him into a painful, intimate search for the one haunting secret in his family’s past that can heal his … family’s past that can heal his anguished heart. Spanning three generations and two continents, from the contemporary ruins of the American South to the ancient ruins of Rome, from the unutterable horrors of the Holocaust to the lingering trauma of Vietnam, Beach Music sings with life’s pain and glory. It is a novel of lyric intensity and searing truth, another masterpiece among Pat Conroy’s legendary and beloved novels.

Great southern characters, charming, deep story with vey moving story line. One of the best reads in all my decades of reading.
Pat Conroy is always a favorite. I’ve read this one several times. I always come away with new things.
One of my top ten.
Wonderful book. A mans history of generations in the south
Wonderful, as all of Pat Conroy’s books are. He is truly one of America’s best writers. His characters are so well-drawn, you feel like you know them and his love of the South shines through on every page.
Loved this book.
Pat Conroy is one of those authors that make you feel like a family member. There are tragedies and there is humor among the family members.
Pat takes us where he had roots. I love his talent with words, descriptions.
A terrific read.
More than 750 pages so, if you aren’t into lengthy reads, pass this one up. However, if you’re into intricate character building, wonderfully interesting characters, a study of personal interaction, growing up in the ’60s, etc., you’ll like this a lot. Conroy lets us all know that, as dysfunctional as we think our families are, WE AIN’T SEEN dysfunctional until we meet his family and the families of his friends.
Best book I’ve read so far this year. Pat Conroy was a great writer.
One of my favorite books and authors! Well written characters with realistic flaws.
I can vividly believe that I am there, love pat Conway.
Best prose I’ve read in many years. Wonderfully written.
Only read a chapter or two – not my favorite
Pat Conroy was an amazing author and this is one of my favorite books by any author. Great read I will read again.
I read “Beach Music” soon after it was published and I have just reread it. I was saddened with Pat Conroy’passing since he became my favorite author and always looked forward to his new offerings. This book will make you laugh in one sentence and choke you up in the next.
Pat Conroy is a word master. His use of language stretches my brain and is such a wonderful example of how precise descriptive words can fill in the details in one stroke. As part of the class of ’66, I thoroughly enjoyed the look at those times.
Pat Conroy’s masterpiece.
I love Conroy’s books. The characters are complex and interesting.
My absolute favorite book of all time! I have read this multiple times and still love it!
This is one of my all time favorite books. Every few years I go back and reread it. Pat Conroy is a master of dialogue…
