J.L. Feaman’s Be Still my Heart is a fun, easy, sexy read. The plot develops quickly but naturally, and is quick-paced with a good balance of dialogue, action, and sex. It is in these sex scenes where Feaman’s writing really shines, with great intensity and emotion. The dynamic between a famous person and non-famous person worked well for creating believable moments of drama, tension, and insecurity. There are well-placed scenes of suspense and intrigue that break up the day-to-day and allow Amber’s personality to develop more depth. Amber’s character is coming out of a divorce and her only child leaving for college, so she is emotionally strained and in many ways just now taking the time to understand who she is as a person. This makes her very vulnerable, and in many instances, doubting herself and her growing relationship with Kris. The story builds steadily and presents an exciting twist where Amber is given space to truly shine. Part Three of this book provides a needed balance of reason and introspection, and is where Feaman slows the pace to bring the reader along poignant moments of Ambers highs and lows. The cliffhanger ending sets up plenty of opportunities for more character growth and establishing an even deeper relationship between Kris and Amber.
Be Still My Heart is written in three parts instead of standard chapters. The three parts play well with the development of the story differentiating her progression of self discovery. Part One shows an Amber who is doing her best to stand on her own and make sense of her life. Part Two features an Amber who is embracing parts of herself that are newly discovered or were never fully explored before. Part Three allows readers to see a more well-rounded character who must rely on her own strength and resilience for her to truly learn what is most important in her life.
REVIEW:
4.5/5
I have read a lot of rockstar romances over the years. I wanted someone new, and I stumbled on this diamond in the rough. This is the story of Kris and Amber. Amber is a journalist, that works for Fame, magazine that got assign to follow a 90s boy band reunion. Being divorced from a cheating verbal abuser, and always sacrificing herself to give the best childhood for her son, she has very low self esteem, and has lived a loveless life. Kris, the lead singer and actor, always seem happy with women hanging all over him, but yet he has never fallen in love. It’s hard for him to find the one because people want his money and fame. So when Amber avoids him and puts him in his place, she intrigued him so much more.
I fell in love with this story. I think it’s because it based on characters who is 40-40+ of age. The main characters were written well and very developed. I enjoyed Amber, because she is trying to discover herself that has been laying dormant for 40 years. Feaman portrayal of her journey is very realistic. She shows you in depth how much a person verbally tear down a person. Kris, may have been a play-boy, but he is so much more. The chemistry between the two was hot. I seriously cannot wait for part two: Be Still My Love coming out Aug. 20.
When Amber is sent on assignment to cover a boy band reunion tour, she falls in lust with Kris, the charismatic lead singer. But, she can’t figure out what he wants with her. He’s a hot manwhore, so what’s he doing flirting with her, a divorced mom in her 40s? But soon, the two are tumbling into something neither ever expected. How do they fall in love and keep it going while on tour?
I was surprised at how much I liked Be Still My Heart. Amber and Kris have surprising depth and their chemistry is fire. Really the only thing that brought it down from 5 stars is the annoying cliffhanger. The way the story was going felt so much like it was going to be resolved in one book, not spread out over the course of who knows how many installments. Still, I was hooked and now awaiting the next part impatiently.
I enjoyed his read. The layout is different than others but did not.really bother me. Enjoyable characters and interesting story premise. Cannot wait for the next one!

A well written story with nice storyline and plot. It has a different layout than usually and that was not really my thing. I would have prefered it was in chapters. That the story was in three parts and no chapters made the story a bit overwhelming at times. Long parts without really natural pauses. But that is only my opinion.
The characters have to develop and find themselves before they can be together and make it work. Some hurt and pain and crusual circumstances is thrown at them. Accidents they have to deal with. But can they make it?
Engaging and enjoyable read that I can recommend to others.
