At twenty years old, Lainey Wilson has made enough mistakes for a lifetime. She’s gotten herself knocked up by a cruel, uncaring man, lost her home, and found herself outside of a ramshackle bar with a crying baby and a broken purse. When Nick Jackson, the Mustangs’ new rookie quarterback, swoops in like her savior, all she wants to do is fall into his arms. There’s just one problem… she’s … she’s sworn off football players and men for good.
He’s charming, eager, and sexy as hell, but Nick’s not the man for her. No matter what her body says.
Besides, she’s got bigger problems to fix such as how she’s going to feed her child, where she’s going to lay her head, and how to stay hidden from her ex. There’s no room for flirtation, a hand on the small of her back, or even the way he makes her daughter smile.
Nick Jackson isn’t in her plan now or ever.

Lainey Valdez has made enough bad choices to last a lifetime. She’s now twenty, and a single mom trying to survive in a small town in Texas. With little education or skills, she didn’t have many opportunities for a good life for her daughter. Then she gets a chance to move to Dallas, and she takes it. While looking for a job and a place to live she meets a man named Nick Jackson that shows her kindness in her time of need.
Nick Jackson is the new backup rookie quarterback for the Mustangs NFL team in Dallas. He meets Lainey, and is completely captivated by her beauty and how genuine she is. He wants to get to know her better, and relentlessly pursues her with no success.
Lainey is extremely attracted to Nick, but she has no room in her life for a man or romance, no matter how wonderful he is. She also doesn’t date pro football players. She does however accept his friendship. Over time they continue to grow closer, and he continues to show her how much he cares for her, and her daughter. Will Lainey finally open her heart and take a chance on love?
This was my first solo book by Jen Frederick, and it was addictive! I couldn’t put it down, and finished it in a day. Lol, like I didn’t want to go anywhere or do anything that would separate me from my kindle. The reason is Nick Jackson. I fell hard for this swoony, beautiful man, and just kept wanting more!
Lainey and Nick are a sweet, fun, sexy couple but the road to love isn’t easy. Lainey finds herself a single mother as a teenager without any support. The ‘boy’ who is the father is the ultimate bully and is well, a creep. The only thing he does to help is give her a ride to Dallas, away from their small hometown. From there, Lainey is resourceful as she builds a meager life for her and her daughter. When she crosses paths with Nick, he is struck by her beauty and subtle strength. He has to know more which leads him to build a friendship. The moments when Nick spends time with Lainey and her daughter, Cassidy are beautifully sweet and captivating. Of course, this road is bumpy and Lainey carries the fear of her past destroying what she has worked so hard to build. What would Nick think if he knew all her secrets? I was pulled in for this journey and didn’t want it to end.
Be Mine is book two in the Jackson Boys series by Jen Frederick. This was my very first book by this author.
When we start out, Lainey Valdez is twenty years old and has a two year old daughter, Cassie. When Lainey was only sixteen years old she was swept off her feet by Chip, a local guy who had just gotten into the NFL. He got her pregnant and then dumped her, literally treated her like trash. Lainey’s own mother is embarrassed by her and pretty much kicks her out. Even though no one knows Chip is the father, he is forced to take Lainey and her daughter to Dallas where his team is, so she can start fresh. It’s here that Lainey meets the new rookie quarter back, Nick, and his best friend, Charlie (Charlotte.) Charlie and Lainey become fast friends but Lainey is instantly smitten with Nick. The problem is, she has sworn off football players. Look where that got her before! Even though she has a beautiful daughter now, she will never trust a football player again.
Nick Jackson can’t believe how instant his attraction is to the beautiful Lainey. It’s not just physical. It’s everything. And then there is her adorable daughter. He never even knew he loved kids until he met little Cassie. But he is a first year rookie. He knows that the team needs to be his priority. Still, he can’t get these two off his mind. He has no idea what her story is. There obviously is something in her past that makes her so wary. He’s determined to figure out how to knock down her walls.
This kind of sets things up for you. Chip is probably one of the most vile men I’ve ever read about. This man is cruel, manipulative and just completely awful. He makes life for Lainey so difficult. Lainey on the other hand, is one tough girl. She is determined to make a life for her daughter. She’s embarrassed by her choices in the past, but she now has a beautiful little human that depends on her. Nick is pretty swoony. In the beginning, it’s obvious that he’s a rookie. I wish he would have tried harder to win over Lainey but I really don’t know if he could have done much more at that point. He really does come through later on, though.
This book had so much, it was pretty intense, some pretty dark parts, and some sweet ones as well, as well as some smexy times. It was hard to put it down at times. It’s possible the copy I had wasn’t completely edited yet because there were some issues with names being mixed up. I also got a little confused with some of the time line. I loved the epilogue. It left me feeling all the warm and fuzzies. All in all, this was a great read that I really enjoyed and a wonderful way to get introduced to this author.
Be Mine by Jen Frederick is book Two in the Jackson Boys series. This is the story of Nick Jackson and Lainey Wilson. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Lainey made a mistake with one guy that left her with a baby. Now she is pretty much homeless with a crying baby. Nick is a rookie for the Dallas Mustangs seems to fall instantly for Lainey and her little girl. But she is cautious of getting into another relationship.
This was such an emotional read…definitely a page turner for me. Loved it!
Be Mine was a beautifully written story about love conquering all, even through some of life’s most difficult circumstances. It seems, that when two people are meant to be together and willing to fight for one another, nothing can keep them apart – not time, distance, nor positions.
The story of this second Jackson brother, which started with their parents ever so brilliantly in one of my all- time favorite book series, The Woodland’s, bookends this romance exquisitely and I can guarantee this romance is one that will make you believe that anything is possible.
As Always, Happy Reading!
