After her no-good drunk of a father tries to trade her for a bottle of whiskey, nineteen-year-old Emma Foley ends up as the reluctant ward of Jake McCabe, the stern, handsome man she spent years doing her best to annoy. But now that she is under his authority, things will be different, and when she is naughty Emma’s cute little bottom will be bared and very soundly spanked.Though Jake is the … is the less-than-enthusiastic owner of the saloon his late father established, he has no intention of allowing Emma to become a working girl, and when he catches her flaunting her body in a scandalous dress he punishes her thoroughly. The strict chastisement arouses them both intensely, however, and it is all he can do to keep from ravishing her right then and there.
With her need for him growing more and more obvious every day and his ability to control himself slipping away, will Jake make Emma his bride before he claims her beautiful body?

“Bartered” is a sweet & spicy historical Western romance with doses of discipline when it is deemed necessary. Emmaline and Jake’s mothers were friends. They bugged each other throughout their childhood but that annoyance turned into something else as adults. Will Emma be able to get through the wall Jake put around his heart after his first marriage? Will Jake be able to resist the primal desires he feels for the innocent Emma? Emma is so curious, she’s always in trouble for something! And Jake enjoys doling out her “punishments”! I like the plot, the multilayered cast, the tension, the suspense and the chemistry. An entertaining romance with humor, teasing and a conflicted man who eventually figures out what he needs to be satisfied.
Her mama dying changed Emmaline’s life. Now she dresses like a boy to discourage the wrong men and works the farm like the man her Daddy used to be. She can’t believe it when he gives her to Carter to pay a debt. Now she’s staying at a saloon. A saloon owned by the only man she has ever wanted. A spanking man who only sees her as the Little girl he used to have as a tag along. He’ll never see her as a woman. Historical spanking romance.

Two friends bought the Long Horn Saloon in Dodge City together. It was not long until Ray was setting doing nothing except drinking all the profits leaving his partner no choice but to buy him out. The stress eventually caught up with the partner leaving his son, Jake McCade full owner of the bar, which he had no interest in running. He was only doing it until he could sell lock, stock, and barrel. One evening Jake went to his ranch for dinner, and while he was gone Ray came for a drink. The bartender refused to serve him unless he could pay first, but when Hank turned his back to serve another customer, Ray stole a bottle of whiskey and was out the door before anyone could stop him. Shortly, Ray returned with his nineteen year old daughter, Emmaline dressed as a boy to the bar to leave her as payment for the whiskey. When Jake returned to close for the night he was livid at what Ray had done. Their families had been friends and he had the up most respect for Emmaline’s mother, so he felt responsible for the young woman. He always did have a soft spot for Emmaline even though she knew exactly how to get under his skin to set him off. It was strange that he chose to keep her at the bar instead of taking her to the ranch to keep her reputation intact. Instead he kept her at the bar tempting her to break the rules so when she did he could punish her. He was all alpha male and she was a sassy woman that stood up for herself. Also, she had a crush on him. All this combined caused a whirlwind to hit the Long Horn. Just what does a man expect to happen, when he puts an innocent young woman into a room with a group of prostitutes. Them never to talk and her not to over hear things about their business. Poor man, whose being naive now? This was a story full of unexpected twists and turns with surprising outcomes you never saw coming.

I’ve read quite a few erotic historical novels recently and I found that I enjoy some kind of kink play when it’s consensual, while I like strict “discipline” less… So I must say that I quite enjoyed reading this book, because the interaction between the characters is sparkling, amusing and satisfying and they both take pleasure in what they do. Emma and Jake are thrown together by circumstances, but they are definitely soul mates. They are both well characterized and the reader can clearly understand their minds and their desires from the very beginning. The Western setting is well done and I was able to picture a real saloon with “girls” and drunks while reading the descriptions. I also found the side characters very “real”, even the villain, or villains including the father, because they are not over-the-top as it’s often the case in this kind of books. I didn’t care much for the “papa” stuff, though. But I think that’s just me, my personal preferences with these books. An enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to other books from this author.

Good characters.
Emma father has to be the biggest jerk alive what he did was horrible. Jake was a bit slow on the uptake too. Emma on the other hand, went through way to much but, she kept strong. This story had a couple of underlining issues I found interesting. Expect the heat and some old fashion discipline but the story is good and I enjoyed reading it. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
A really good book. It takes us to the wild west. Wonderful characters with strong story lines that reflects well on the time depicted. The events are believable and the secondary characters are begging to have their own stories. Hopefully the author will write more books about this town. Loved it!
