Can a lady tempt a Free Fellow to surrender his heart? As a founding member of the Free Fellows League—a group of four gentlemen who signed a pledge to never wed when they were lads—Griffin, Viscount Abernathy, swears that he will put off marrying as long as possible. But when he is suddenly called off to war, he has no choice but to obey his father’s wishes and find a wife… wife…
Just days later, he marries the lovely Lady Alyssa. For a man committed only to his freedom, she seems a perfect—and perfectly undemanding—bride. Intelligent and self-sufficient, Alyssa craves her independence just as much as Griffin loves his. But as the irresistible attraction between them flourishes with every look and touch, they discover there is something they desire even more than a loveless marriage of convenience—the passion they find in each other’s arms…

Will read her again!
This book is a strange contrast. Of ingrained viewpoints of marriage, nobility (birthright), and true love. The author does a wonderful job of juggling all these viewpoints. Read for yourself and see what you think.
I adore this book and this series! Dashing nobles, intelligent ladies, villains who are bad but not undefeatable, and semi-realistic depictions of trauma and troubled relationships. This first volume starts with the silly premise of a duke who must marry and start an heir before he can leave to fight Napoleon. These two young people take their insta-lust and make a credible marriage of convenience into a real partnership. Then he comes back wounded in body and soul and it about rips out my heart along with theirs as they try to survive how life looks now. Yes, it’s a silly romance novel, but it’s a well-told story. The next book “Merely the Groom” is also very good. After that the series gets cringey in spots but they’re still above average.
Looking forward to reading more of this series.
Good story but toooooo much sex.
A strong lady who finds her place in the world, and fights for her own happiness.
When the groom goes off to war, everyone suffers. Can the budding love survive the aftermath?
An awesome story of young but steadfast love!
LOVED THE WHOLE SERIES. HER WORK IS GREAT…AWONDERFUL ENTERTAINING BOOK
Fast-paced, addictive, very romantic.
I liked it.
I loved this
I enjoyed the story development as well as the characters. The supernatural element always intrigues me.
Realistic depiction of returning soldier. Likeable young adults.
Sweetly romantic. A wonderful story but a little of an abrupt ending for me, as these types of books commonly have.
Beautiful Story
He and two of his friends decide at a young age that would never marry for love. She is the youngest of 4 daughters and her mother wants her to marry a duke but she fall for a Viscount on his way to find against Nepolean. Love finds a way to bring both parties something they thought they never would have.
Well written book. Characters are well developed and realistic. Particularly liked the main female character. Plot is plausible. The ending is happy. The story is an original twist on a theme which occurs from time to time in other similar historical books of this genre. The original twist keeps the reader engaged. I enjoyed the book and recommend it.
I rarely rate a book 5 stars but this was one I could not put down. Griffin wants only to join the calvary and fight Napoleon, but as the heir his father insists her must agree to a speedy wedding and attempt to begat his heir before leaving. He agrees but has taken an oath with friends to form the Free Fellows League, vowing to never fall in love with his wife so it is to be a marriage of convenience. Lady Alyssa wants only to be free of the London season and have the ability to design a garden of her own, preferably far from her parents. Griffin and Alyssa are wed and she is set up at his country estate while he goes off to war. The rest of the story is told in letters between the two and their families and diary entries. This is a very clever method of developing the characters and the plot and made for a real page turner. Eventually Griffin returns from battle and he and Allyson must confront what they want for the remainder of their marriage.
Sweet book. Romantic. The end surprised me.
Wonderful storiy with ups and downs that keep your eyes glued to the pages. Beautiful descriptions that place you in the moment and more emotionally mature characters than most romances will have me reading this author’s books for years to come.
