Marlene’s not like the other humans. They weep while she smiles. They look at us with fear, while she entices me with a come-hither look.I…have no idea why such a bold female resonated to a male like me. I am the most reticent of all the sa-khui tribe, a hunter that never expected to have a family of my own. But resonance chooses, and it has chosen her for me. And Marlene is quite determined to … determined to seduce me…and who can say no to such a woman?
This story explores the long-awaited romance of Marlene and Zennek. Even though it is a ‘flashback’ to the beginning of the Ice Planet Barbarians series, it can be read out of order. Enjoy!

4 stars – It was really good
Marlene is different from the other human survivors. She isn’t scared, crying and freaking out. Instead she is happy because she knows she is safe. She is also very attracted to the shy Zennek.
Well this was adorable. This book starts in the present and jumps back to Marlene and Zennek’s resonance. I loved how bold Marlene was with her feelings and that she was the one to pursue Zennek. Zennek was an adorably sweet man and I loved how he acted around Marlene. These two were just adorable.
I am so glad I decided to jump back into this series and get caught up. This was just the perfect low-angst alien romance that I needed. I am looking forward to seeing the other couples fall in love.
Here is Marlene’s story and it has some funny parts and some steamy parts. Marlene is a go with the flow type of girl. She knows what is going on and what could happen. She knows that the khui chooses who she will resonate with. Luckily it is Zenneck. Now obviously he has never had a pleasure mate so he has no idea what to do. The whole mouth kissing is new to him as well as a whole lot of other things. It is funny because he is shy and but once Marlene gets him settled he gets comfortable. She loves that he is new to everything and she has a lot to teach him. She jokes with him and she sees his possessiveness come out. It is cute and endearing and their story is heart warming as well. Marlene is superstitious and she always sees things that she thinks her mother sent her. She trust in this and this is what helps her get through a tough time. Well I loved reading about her and Zenneck and it was worth it.
I like the way Ruby goes back and writes about all the characters in a scene – describing the different romances that are happening simultaneously. And this one was very cute with the French heroine and her shy husband.
This one was a bit different than our normal Blue Aliens, but I loved it just as much. I didn’t really connect well with our heroine as much, but it was still a great read. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I love Ruby Dixon’s Ice-planet series. Her characters are diverse, lovable, and utterly addictive.
A look back for Marlene and Zennek’s story
Marlene was always different from the other human women who survived crashing on the Ice Planet. While the others wailed and shivered in fear, Marlene was calm and collected. The others had no idea that Marlene saw hearts – in the clouds, the shape of rocks, everywhere -and she took it s a sign that her late Maman was watching over her and all would be well. Plus, being French, Marlene had a different native language and a different cultural outlook than the others, who were all Americans. She was attracted to shy Zenneck from the get-go, and when they resonated she didn’t hesitate to claim her male. Their love story is a sweet theme in this book, along with Marlene’s faith in the heart-symbols she sees everywhere – until she doesn’t. Does this mean the end of her happiness? What bad things will happen? Watch what happens when a human woman’s unshakable faith is tested – read Barbarian’s Seduction.
Really enjoyed this story with the flashback to how Marlene and Zennek got together. Lots of laughs and very cute. Loved how sassy Marlene was and how she seemed to help Zennek become more sassy too!
*WARNING* for mature readers due to sexual content
This story is a little different. This one takes us back to the beginning when the “hoo-mans” wrecked on the ice planet and tells us the story of Marlene and Zennek through to present day. I like going back to the beginning for a short period. The character of Marlene is also quite different, she never cried or got angry about being stranded on the strange planet, she accepted it and pretty much rolled with what life threw at her. I have to admire the character if Marlene and it’s refreshing to have a female character react in such a way to these big blue men.
Book twenty in the Ice Planet Barbarians series another well written story that once I started I was not putting down. Zennek and Marlene’s story is one I had been hoping would be written. This is a flashback to how their lives together began. Zennek and their daughter have not come home and she has not seen a sign that everything will be all right. I received a copy through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing it
So…I’m one of the few who voted to have this book written as this couple, well mainly Marlene, has been slowly working her way into my heart. Usually through her daughter, Zalene, and what she says around the other children in the other books, LOL.
Marlene and Zennek have been secondary characters for the last 19 books so I am glad we finally get to see their story unfold. Her outlook on the whole situation is refreshing and makes your “heart” happy (if you’ve read the book, then you see what I’ve done there, LOL.) In many ways, they are an opposite attracts as Marlene is bold and talkative, whereas Zennek is shy and quiet. They really balance one another out.
I really enjoyed this book. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because one of the mated pairs in this story get together/resonance did not match up with their own stories. I totally understand that after 20 books and varies characters, it’s hard to keep track of what happened to whom and why, so all is forgiven. It just really threw my off that’s all. That doesn’t mean I won’t continue to follow this series. It is a beloved series so as long as Ruby Dixon continues to write the books, I will continue to read the series.
Barbarian’s Seduction was a quick sweet read. I loved that we got to see what it was like when Marlene and Zennek got together. It was fun to see just how shy Zennek was and how very bold Marlene was! I also loved that we got to see them in the present with their daughter. Really there is nothing sexier than a man, or alien, with their child. I also loved how much family was emphasized here. To get to see the relationships between the siblings and in-laws added a richness to the book. Can’t wait for more stories!
I have to say that I really LOVED this one! I love the dynamic between Marlene and Zennek. He’s the relatively shy one and she’s the pursuer. And once they get together he ends up as a little bit of an alpha and the dirty talker. Barbarian’s Seduction is definitely steamy! It’s endearing the way Marlene looks for signs from her mother and is worried about bad omens. In addition, the lesson learned at the end is a great one! This book is written from a present-day perspective in the series and flashes back to the very first book in the series when this group landed on the planet. It was neat going back to the beginning and seeing it through Marlene & Zennek’s eyes. Steamy, sweet, and completely enjoyable! This cover is amazing, too! 5 stars!
